There have been countless questions about the type of milk that is best for young people, kids adult etc. whether you have asked this question online or offline the truth might be farfetched from what you already know. For example, many of us have been brain washed about cow’s milk. Why? Because we believe it is a healthy choice: We believe It’s packed with calcium and fortified with vitamin D, both of which are essential for building (and keeping) strong bones.
Yet as you’ve probably heard, the nutritional tide can sometimes seem like it is turning on milk, leading some to wonder whether adults should be drinking it at all.

Is milk healthy?
First, there is some evidence to suggest that milk, on its own, may not be as helpful for your bones as originally thought. For example, a 2011 review published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research found that drinking milk didn’t reduce the risk of fractures in women.
Here are few things you must know about different milks you drink daily

Skimmed, semi or whole?
Latest research reveals that skimmed milk isn’t necessarily the healthiest option. Yes, it’s lower in fat and calories, and higher in calcium, than whole milk, but some experts suggest that the saturated fat in dairy may not be a problem in terms of heart health. In fact, by drinking skimmed we may be missing out on fat-soluble nutrients like vitamins A and E.
Semi-skimmed is low enough in fat to be a ‘low-fat’ food, but it also has lower levels of fat-soluble vitamins than whole milk. So make sure you get your fat-soluble vitamins from other sources, such as brightly coloured salad or veg served with an oil dressing.
Lactose Free Milk:

Lactose-free milk is designed for people with lactose intolerance. Lactose is a naturally occurring sugar found in dairy foods. It is normally broken down or digested by the body using an enzyme called lactase. However, people with lactose intolerance don’t have enough of this enzyme to properly digest lactose, resulting in lactose intolerance. Lactose-free milk has been processed to break down the lactose before packaging, making it a suitable type of milk to drink by people who are lactose intolerant.

Soy Milk:

Soy milk is also lactose-free and therefore suitable to drink by people who are lactose intolerant. Many people also choose to drink soy milk due to taste preferences or because they are following a vegan diet. Soy milk is not naturally high in calcium but there are many brands that do fortify their milks with calcium. If you drink soy milk, it is advisable to choose a calcium-fortified brand to ensure your daily calcium intake is adequate.

Rice Milk:

Rice milk is made from rice. It is naturally lower in protein and calcium in comparison to regular milk. Rice milk is lactose-free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans. If you are choosing rice milk, choose a variety that has been fortified with calcium and protein. Rice milk is not recommended for children due to its low protein and calcium content.
Best for babies
The Department of Health recommends that babies are breast-fed up to six months, and start whole cow’s milk from one year old. Semi-skimmed is an option from two years and skimmed milk only after five years of age. Always ask your GP or a dietitian for advice if your baby has a milk allergy. Some alternatives, like soya drinks, may be unsuitable.

Traditional cow’s milk

What is it?
A natural product, rich in protein and a source of calcium. Organic milk contains higher levels of healthy omega-3 fatty acids, and the cows are less likely to have been exposed to antibiotics and pesticides. Some people prefer homogenised cow’s milk, as homogenisation breaks down the fat molecules, making the milk easier to digest.
