Consider yourself forgiven if you have not seen the movie - Half of a Yellow Sun.

It is an oft stated belief that Jonathan's loss at the elections kick-started new agitations for a secession. This is just an event that helped it along.

Half of a Yellow Sun - The Movie, is why all the problems re-started. A lot of us here on nairaland bashes the Nigerian Movie Board when they delayed the release of this movie in Nigeria...perhaps those in the board have a gift of foresight.

I am citizen of Nigeria. This is simply my opinion. A 'de-construction'

Take a look at the first picture below. Come back and re-read the words when you have gone through the whole post.

Genevieve Nnaji – A true Biafran daughter. An epitome of enduring class. This image serves as an inspiration and a constant reminder to Igbos that they have what it takes to stand out in a class of their own. That they do not have to bow down to anyone. They have it all.

This image evokes in the Igbos, a period of sweetness and class. It reminds them of their social standing and how well they can hold their own in a social circle. An IPOB coming across this scene in the Half of a Yellow Sun movie is reminded of a better time now lost and forgotten and buried under the futile efforts of their past heroes. They yearn to have all this back…to have their own say about issues concerning them in a setting of their own making.

It is easy to imagine the angst of an IPOB individual as s/he watches the evocative scenes of the glorious days of past when they mingle freely with the cream of the society.
They dance.

They make moves.

They command respect from Caucasians who appreciate they enviable traits of been able to meet their undeniable business acumen with serious pleasure and fun.

Sentimental Igbos are ready to shed blood to bring back these good times and make it their reality again, and this time within their own land.

Dr. Chinua Achebe has made indelible prints in the minds of patriotic Igbos about the beauty of family institution and values.

Time and again Igbos have been reminded through books and speeches about how very great the Ibo family institutions was, and how it has helped bred generations and generations of very smart, intelligent and beautiful Biafrans.

These images from the movie drags such soulful sentiments from the hidden corners of their memories and reinforce their faiths that the only way the once-great-but-now-corrupted family values can be returned back to greatness is through a separation and a Ibo cultural renaissance.

A sense of déjà vu descends… These images wrenches for the lips of an IPOB a gritty curse against the ZOO as he again confronts the scene that throws his people and the subsequent generations into turmoil that has made their political future indefinite and their identity shredded and unrecognizable.

The powerful images elicit a sense of forbidden doom and mark the period when THINGS BEGIN TO FALL APART.

It will take more than the appointment of a son of Biafra as the new NNPC GMD to wipe off all these sad memories.

The tragedy of an unfulfilled dream.

The innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

The minute pains endured by many.

The catastrophic end to a utopian way of life.

This heartrending war image from the HYS is bound to enrage a modern day IPOB into an uncontrollable frenzy. What a way to suffer for a dream!

His land breached and set ablaze. The sanctity of the numerous sacrifices made upon the land by the various ancestors violated by the fiery and unforgiving napalm bombs.

A way of life firmly and tragically uprooted from its ancestral roots. The movie scenes shock the systems of Igbos. It challenges their sense and spirit of patriotism. An IPOB yearns for vengeance. S/he is ready to forgive if s/he is allowed to go. S/he is ready to die if he doesn’t get what he wants. There is a sharp knife clenched between the teeth of an IPOB individual.

Let's go our seperate ways simple...
Friends can still be friends across borders or countries.
So that shouldn't be an excuse...
A friend is someone that helps a friend achieve his or her dream...

Whereby one of the friend wants to restore his papa land.. The other friend should help him realize his dream not threating him with breakups.. Else they break up and he finds a new friend.

Simple...
Shout out to Biafrans all over the universe...

OCEANS OF BLOOD AND THE POWER OF TRUTH by Femi Fani-Kayode

"The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it but in the end, there it is" - Sir Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of Great Britain (1940-1945 and 1951-1955)

Nothing empowers the spirit more than the
truth. Nothing warms the soul more than
the truth. Nothing dispels the darkness
more than the truth.
Nothing emboldens the noble more than the
truth. Nothing sheds the light more than the
truth. Nothing enlightens the ignorant more
than the truth. Nothing frees the enslaved
more than the truth. Nothing liberates the
mind more than the truth.

Nothing purges the evil more than the truth.
Nothing hurts the vile more than the truth.
Nothing troubles the murderous more than
the truth. Nothing exposes the reprobate
more than the truth.  Nothing burns the
slanderer more than the truth.

Nothing chains the liar more than the truth.
Nothing heals the wounded more than the
truth. Nothing brings the peace more than
the truth. Nothing torments the oppressor
more than the truth. Nothing haunts the
wicked more than the truth. Nothing
punishes the tyrant more than the truth.
Nothing humiliates the proud more than the
truth. Nothing restores our hope more than
the truth. Nothing serves justice more than
the truth. Nothing delivers the captive more
than the truth.  As Churchill said, ‘’the truth is
incontrovertible’’. It is overwhelming and it
is irresistible. It is powerful and it is
beautiful.

It cannot be destroyed.  It cannot be
denied.  It cannot be suppressed. It is
eternal.  It will always be revealed at the
appointed time. It may be ignored for a
season but it will eventually resurface to
torment the deceiver.

With truth comes the opportunity to repent
and to forgive. With truth comes justice,
  healing, peace, love, restoration,
reconciliation, reparation, redemption and
the chance for new beginnings. Without
truth there can be none of these blessings
or virtues: only darkness, deceit, ugliness,
suspicion, hate, carnage, violence and the
enthronement and celebration of bitter and
wretched souls. Without truth evil goes from
strength to strength. Without truth the
wicked crush innocent souls. Without truth
the oppressor continues to thrive and
flourish but with truth the righteous rise
and reach the top.  Without truth nations
wither and perish but with truth they
prosper and excel.

Yet what truth resides in our beleagured
country?  A country that feeds fat on lies and
revels in deceit. A country that refuses to
teach its children our history in order to
cover up the many wrongs and injustices of
the past. A country whose elders refer to the
oppressed and disillusioned as desperate
''miscreants''. A country whose leaders refer
to those that seek to enforce their legitimate
rights as ''money-loving drug dealers and
skilful scammers''.

A country that cannot make a distinction
between those that seek to peacefully
exercise their right of self-determination
and those that terrorise, kill and maim
others in an attempt to impose their faith.
There are many truths that the Nigerian
people will have to come to terms with
before our nation can be at peace with
itself.

An ocean of blood has been shed in the
name of a united Nigeria yet the
perpetrators of state-sponsored violence
have never been brought to book. Many
souls have been wasted in trying to keep us
one. How much more blood has to flow
before those that have ruled us from time
immemorial accept the fact that nations
cannot be established by subjugation and
tyranny but only by justice, equity, truth,
equal rights and consensus.

The truth of the Jos massacre in 1945
where hundreds were slaughtered cannot
be denied. The truth of the Kano riots in
1953 where thousands were butchered
cannot be denied. The truth of the pogroms
in the north in 1966 where hundreds of
thousands were killed cannot be denied.
The truth of the slaughter of millions of
innocent civilians, women and children
between 1967 and 1969 during the
Nigerian civil war cannot be denied.

The truth of the Asaba massacre in 1969
where 1000 little boys and old men were
rounded up in the town square and shot in
the head cannot be denied.
The truth of the massacre of hundreds of
thousands of Christians and ethnic
minorities all over the north and particularly
in the Middle Belt throughout the 80’s and
90’s cannot be denied. The truth of political
sharia with its attendant violence, trauma,
blood-letting and butchery from 2000-2003
in the far north cannot be denied.

The bitter truth of Boko Haram and the
relentless slaughter of hundreds of
thousands of innocent Nigerians by Islamic
fundamentalists in northern Nigeria from
2009 up until today cannot be denied. The
truth of the murder of dozens of young
youth corpers and hundreds of other people
in the far north in 2011 cannot be denied.
The truth of the brutal slaughter of innocent
Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen over the last
20 years and up until today cannot be
denied. O Nigerians, who has bewitched
thee? Why do we hate truth and those that
speak it with such passion?  Like the ostrich,
we have buried our heads in the sand and
we act as if these things never happened.
We refuse to acknowledge the evil within us
and we refuse to honor the dead by atoning
for our sins and calling for retribution and
justice.

These horrendous events cannot be denied
and neither shall they ever be forgotten. The
blood of the innocents that were
slaughtered by these relentless Huns speaks
through the ages and from generation to
generation.  That blood cries out to God in
heaven and it calls for vengeance. It is time
for justice to be done. It is time for those
that consistently kill and shed blood in their
ignoble quest to rule us forever to be
brought to book. It is time for the Tutsis of
Nigeria to be brought to heel. It is time for
those that starved millions of little children
to death in the name of crushing Biafra to
be exposed.

It is time that those who seek to play down
these events and who seek to cover up their
complicity in genocide be called out and
shamed.  It is time that some of our elders
and so-called leaders are sent to the
International Criminal Court for genocide
and murder and for crimes against
humanity. It is time to rediscover our
humanity. It is time for the ancient leaders
and guardians of the Nigerian state to admit
that they have built our so-called unity on
nothing but murder, carnage and the blood,
guts and bones of millions of slaughtered
innocents.

It is time for them to apologies to the
Nigerian people for their insufferable
conspiracy of silence and their insatiable
greed. It is time for them to tell the truth
about our blood-soaked and frightful
history, to confess their sins, to kneel down
before the Ancient of Days and to beg Him
for forgiveness. It is time for them to start
fearing the Lord of Hosts, to stop hating the
messenger and to start dealing with the
message.

#BIAFRA: OBAFEMI AWOLOWO, MURTALA MUHAMMAD WERE MURDERERS NOT HEROES – Madam Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo

Look how Ibrahim Taiwo and Murtala Muhammad both died Feb 13th 1976. ‪Assassinated‬. They were no HEROES in Nigeria! Don’t let anyone fool you. I was the best on current affairs on that quiz show on NTA in 1976 at age 11. I knew it all and even became a Journalist.

They led the 2nd infantry military that MURDERED our boys and men in Asaba Biafra The Federal troops entered Asaba around October 5, 1967 and began ransacking houses and killing civilians, claiming they were Biafran sympathisers. Leaders summoned the townspeople to assemble on the morning of October 7, hoping to end the violence through a show of support for “One Nigeria.” Hundreds of men, women, and children, many wearing the ceremonial akwa ocha (white) attire paraded along the main street, singing, dancing, and chanting “One Nigeria.” At a junction, men and teenage boys were separated from women and young children, and gathered in an open square at Ogbe-Osawa village.

"The tragedy of an unfulfilled dream.

The innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

The minute pains endured by many.

The catastrophic end to a utopian way of life".

The above quote captures the general feeling in Biafraland when the war ended, and it dawned on them that we didn't have the wherewithal to sustain the war any further.

The agony, the ignominy, the dejection, the feeling of loss and pains of the loss of a brighter future that could have been achieved, if only Biafra was strong enough to repel the invaders.

The pain of being trapped in a retrogressive union with retrogressive and hostile nations, and knowing they had not the power to break free, even the sacrifice of millions of them was not enough, the war was lost, it was left for the unborn generations to either accept defeat, or fight another war.

But freedom is a must, as the Biafran spirit can never be caged forever, and so once again, a generation of Biafrans, unborn in the 60's are at the threshold of history, asking questions that only freedom can answer.

May the Labour of our heroes past, never be in vain.

God Bless Biafra.

All these beautiful and classical expression of power of literature has absolutely nothing to do with those agitating for Biafra in trying to extricate themselves from dysfunctional political structure, backwardness, marginalization, no federal government presence in the SE, exclusion from the main stream politics, bad roads that kill tens of thousands yearly, religious intolerance that target Igbos in the northern part of the country that kills them and destroy their business and livelihood for as long as Nigeria have existed, bombing of their churches, 180 million Nigeria people on average life span of 55 yrs, which translates into the death of 50 million Nigerians by the year 2035, of which Igbos represent some 20% or more of this stats.

Bia, Mr. Unblinded, Igbos do not fantasies, but are guided in most part, by the wisdom of the old, expressed through their idoms and proverbs in the immediate circumstances, present and future. To me, those beautiful visuals from half of the yellow sun, Igbos can create because of natural attributes( beauty, intelligence, hardworking, natural resources, adaptive nature through strong diaspora in 88 countries and indomitable entrepreneurial spirit) given to them by GOD, and have created one of the most beautiful visuals in the continent/world. ....Nollywood.

Mr. Unblinded, those beautiful visuals are more perceived mostly by Yorubas more than the ipob youths. What primarily drive the Biafran agitators, are those above mentioned conditions like fulani heardsmen killings and rapings and etc. Although, Igbos are boostfull and extreme loud mouthed in connection with those visuals from the half of the yellow sun, but it is the perception of those visuals(and it's reality) that drives Yoruba hatred and envy towards the Igbos. Those visuals is what the Yorubas see of Igbos, and the Igbos in turn feel big headed, special and unique because, Yoruba/hausa/fulani will not let them loose because of "this something special about them". It's way past the time Yorubas have to put a mirror in front of themselves. For the hausa/fulani, the Arab God have completely covered all their visuals.

As an Igbo, I had said that I don't support the present manner IPOB is going about its Biafran agitation, but in all honesty no one can ignore the deprivation, marginalization and under development that created the street anger we are witnessing. These street demonstrations are more like protests against the political class, including the Igbo political elite who connived with other groups to feast on the resources of the people. I support resource control. I support devolution of powers but the sharp and abrupt dismemberment of the federation could work against the whole essence of addressing the issue of marginalization.
