Nigeria Needs $500m To Repair Refineries – NNPC.. As All Refineries Remain Shut. by rozayx5(m): 10:02am On Nov 08, 2015

The Federal Government needs about $500m to fix the nation’s crude oil refineries which have all been shut down.

This was said by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Saturday at a forum organised by the Petroleum Club Lagos to celebrate his recent appointment as the NNPC GMD.

Kachikwu said the Port Harcourt Refinery, which was refining crude some weeks ago had stopped working, and had since been shut down.

Meanwhile the Warri and Kaduna refineries still remain shut.

Lamenting the state of the refineries, he said, “I was initially happy with the progress made at the Port Harcourt Refinery when it operated at 60 per cent capacity some weeks ago. But now, the capacity has dropped so low that we had to shut it down. We will need about $500m to fix them.”

He admitted that importation of petroleum products was not the solution to Nigeria’s problem, stressing that attention should be shifted from Nigerians wanting to get allocations for product importation to seeking ways to adding value to the system.

He said the NNPC had not dropped the idea of conducting forensic audit on its account books.

According to Kachikwu, the NNPC is currently talking with states to see how they can contribute towards driving the modular refining model.

So, what happened to the millions they supposedly saved from the "turn-around maintenance" a few months ago which the contemptible APC minions littered across Nairaland masturrbated to, in their typical sycophantic bellows? Has the money been squandered already?

Don't be surprised if another stray Sai Baba almajiri comes out here to blame GEJ. But interestingly, would turn around and praise Buhari for the previous gains we had in power generation (which have all come to a grinding halt, by the way, with the advent of the dry season). Desperate hypocrites and their glory hunt.

The hero promised to hit the ground running, but has yet to have a cabinet 6 months into his tenure. This situation is even more shocking considering the fact that this is a man who contested for the presidential office for 12 solid years.
You mean to tell us that all those periods he battled for the seat, starting from 2003, he had no freaking idea what he was supposed to do?
Did Buhari really contest to change the country or was it all an ego trip and the typical Fulani sense of entitlement that pushes them to battle for the presidential seat at all cost JUST BECAUSE?

6 months into this man's tenure and NOT ONE SINGLE BILL has been passed to the senate so far?

What a joke.

I thought APC said our refineries were working. Everytin APC boasted to have fixed body language on Buhari's Assumption in office is gradually fading and people are beginning to see through their lies and propaganda. From Power, to refinery, to economy, to even the fight against corruption, APC e-tout should tell buhari to start working

The time for propaganda is over, Reality is on the table.

APC all in a haste to claim undue glory put incompletely maintained plants in service and further worsening their state in the process.

They better get into partnership with renowned firms whose core business is refining and with refining chains across the globe and sell of these moribund plants

This development was predictable and predicted. When PDP and APC e-warriors were claiming credit for the return of refineries to full production a few months ago, I had this to say:

Anything you hear from NNPC should be taken with a pinch of salt. What makes me laugh is that at the heart of this story, I suspect APC & PDP e-warriors are both wrong. It's likely that the 4 refineries have not and will not make substantial increases in production but APC & PDP e-warriors are too eager to bask in what they think are accomplishments.

Stories that the refineries are back in or are approaching full production are not new. Yes, we do have increases in production every now and then but they are slight and are not sustainable. These stories tend to surface everytime there is a suggestion that the Govt is looking to privatise the refineries. They are a means of keeping the refineries in NNPC's hands by reassuring Nigerians that with a little work, the refineries will back functioning in full.

It's very simple really, when the refineries are back in full production, you won't need all these moonlight tales as you will feel the effect at the fuel station and in the value of the Naira.
