Funeral and visit is not the same they are two different word, please take note, funeral is the course to burial while a visit is meant after the debeased has been buried, like i stated before hadith 629 of bukhari, umm atiya said 'we were forbidden to accompany the funeral processions, but not strictly' it is clear that it is forbiden, if u have a hadith that encourage women to go to burial then produce it and i will accept it

Good topic. Thank you Lagosboy for pointing out those facts about women of those days. It's more of a cultural thing than religions. If I remember corrrectly, Prophet Mohammed"s wife was a trader, so, why banning women from workplace? Some men just fell like their pretty wives will attract other men when seen.
