Xiaomi is finally in Africa. Mobile In Africa, MIA, won the rights to distribute the phone, the company selected Jumia Nigeria as its exclusive platform to sell Xiaomi phones to users in Nigeria.

Xiaomi’s story is one that both fascinates and eludes every tech pundit; it started very little and grew to become a $45 billion company within five years.

Xiaomi started off as a brand that continually pushed high-quality phones at a very cheap price. At one time, the company’s business strategy was questioned; some analysts even suggested it would fold up in a matter of months because the business model was simply lacking clarity. Later on, it became clear that Xiaomi actually does get low profit from hardware sales, but the weak hardware division is complimented by software sales which keep the company in profitability.

The mobile manufacturer defiled all hurdles, raised its standard and “wowed” the Chinese mobile community. While others mocked the phone for being a cheap copy of the iPhone, Xiaomi silently won the hearts of mobile users all over the world.

Last week, it was reported that the Xiaomi MI 4 passed the United States FCC, few days after the Redmi 2 Pro also passed the FCC. Xiaomi now wants to leave its comfort zone in China and expand its tentacles all over the world.

First Impression

Xiaomi Mi 4 is a decent smartphone with metal frame and a great price.

Xiaomi does impress with the Mi 4, although a full metal unibody design would have been just perfect, however it still does offers love at first sight.

The design is just like the iPhone, I certainly love where Xiaomi placed the speaker. Just at the bottom of the phone, close the where you have the microUSB port.

The size? Fantastic for handling, multimedia and gaming! The capacitive keys are found below the screen, with an active LED light when the phone is charging.

3GB RAM, 2.5 GHz Snapdragon processor, 13MP primary camera, and Adreno 330 GUP. All of these mouth watering specifications goes for only N56,000. We are not sure how other OEM's targeting Nigeria will survive, but competition is great and helps to keeps the industry in check.
