High Voltage Transformer

Power Distribution Using High Voltage Transformers

High voltage transformers are a crucial link in the electric power distribution system. With the use of high voltage transformer the electricity at the power plant gets boosted up to 400,000 volts, which is then distributed through high voltage transmission lines. The voltage is boosted up for a couple of reasons; one is that the electricity travels more efficiently at high voltages. The other reason is that electricity is lost when traveling over long distance. High voltage transmission lines carry the electricity to a substation where a substation transformer reduces the voltage. This usually is reduced a couple more times before providing electricity to commercial and residential customers.
