If you have been to campus lately, you would notice the on-going construction..
Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma-Edo State
has flagged-off construction of 1.1 km length of roads on
campus.
The flag-off which was performed by the pro-chancellor and
chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Prof. Gregory
Akenzua is being sponsored by Rev. Matthew Okpebholo, in fulfillment of his pledge during 19th convocation ceremony of the university held earlier this year.
The roads, costing over N300 million is to be asphalted with
double side drains, with a life span of 25 years.
The pro-chancellor, Prof. Akenzua in his remarks described the
project as the heaviest of donations since the opening of the
endowment fund towards infrastructural development of the
university.
He expressed gratitude to the sponsor on behalf of the university
community, appealing to other well-meaning individuals, groups
and corporate organizations to emulate Rev. Okpebholo.
The vice-chancellor, Prof. Cordelia Agbebaku in her speech
described the project sponsor as a friend of the university,
recalling his yearly scholarship awards to numerous students of AAU, as well as the electronic library he equipped for the faculty of law, among others.
She explained that the road project would enhance accreditation
status of the university, as well as the development of its students.
The project sponsor, Rev. Okpebholo revealed that the
construction was being undertaken by his Foundation-Rev.
Matthew Okpebholo Foundation, with the motto of “Touching
Hearts and Saving Lives”.
He stated that the project would be completed within two months,
and would be of high quality that would last for as long as 25 years before any maintenance could be carried out on it.
It could be recalled that an endowment fund towards
infrastructural development of the university was launched during
19th Convocation Ceremony of the university,where Rev. Okpebolo who was awarded honorary degree pledged to construct 1.1km road at the cost of N300 million.
