We Nigerians of igbo extraction living in diaspora and in Nigeria have become so westernized that naming a child has now become an element of caricature and less important. You see igbos naming their children after people of no significant igbo extraction; you can imagine how many parents of igbo lineage named their children "Goodluck" between 2009-2014 i bet that name will be less popular now owing to the Former President's meritorious defeat. Also naming our kids after celebrities is appaling Every 21st Century Child in igbo land today now bears Chimamanda. what happened to all other beautiful and unique names like nwanyibuife, Mmerenini/Mmeregini, Ijeawele, Agbonma, Enuma (my mother's name), Mmaduaburochukwu, Ngoesina, Udemezue, Makuochukwu, Jidenna, Chinecherem, Chimakpam, Chideraa, Zimuzo, Odinkalu, Nnenne (not Nnenna), Uderike, Ugomma, Anyanwu, Oliaku, Adaku, Mgborie, Mgbeke, Nwakacha (my sister's name ), Anyafulu, Nkili, Adaeze, Chinweuba (so far only my uncle bears this name), Mbanugo (my name ), Oseloka, Emengini, Ositadimma, Osinachi, Chimdindu, Jachimma, Chisaa, Nebolisa (after the former igwe of Awkuzu, I have not heard any other person bear the name), Akalaka (destiny), Nwadiogbu, Kosarachi, Chinualumogu, Azikiwe, etc. Biko nu (Please) don't let these names disappear.
