The Problems Of Mass Media In Nigeria has its root to its foundation. In this Tutorial, I will exhaustively teaching and also showing to us the real problems that have mitigated against the growth of Mass Media Nigeria.
So please relax and read through meticulously for this eye opening article.

1. ILLITERACY - This is no doubt one of the major factor mitigating the advancement of Mass Media In Nigeria. As research have shown, we have about 80 percent illiterate populace in Nigeria. And as it were, most of the Nigeria populace still lives in the Rural areas. With these in mind, these people do not have adequate access to Mass Media. From available data, we have discovered that much is not actually done to sincerely address this menace being done to the Mass Media in Nigeria. For example, the print media in Nigeria can hardly make enough impact on the entire populace especially those in the Rural areas of the Nation.

2. Ownership And Control Of The Mass Media.

Since most of the Mass media outlet in some of these developing countries are owned by government, rich and influential people in the society, then with no doubt in mind, it is surely the ideas, views, sayings, opinions, aspirations and programme of these sect of people that are maily fed to the generality of the populace.

Just as we have the saying " he who pays the piper, dictates the tune". Which means that, it is whatever these owners who owns and controls the Mass Media wants, or determine whatever form of information to the poor reading and listening ears of the populace. It is very clear that most government in the developing world wants men who will do their biding. For instance, during the last time the federal government of Nigeria removed subsidy from petrol, there were wide range of protests, riots, chaos and yet the National Television (NTA) never aired it at all. Well thank God we still had some TV stations that aired it live.
And that is why you will notice that in these government controlled mass media houses, the chief - editor, chief executives etc are usually people appointed with little or no considerations to their qualifications, experience and past performance but based on either they are from the same political camp so that their cause or ambitions will be aired in a minds glorious tune. And this is a phenomenon that have inarguably bedeviled the Mass Media in Nigeria and other developing Nations of the world.
