The Gaps In Our Beliefs. by Ezek015(m): 2:10pm On Dec 13, 2015
Many times we struggle with God, expecting him to come through in certain specific ways; some of us might think like mathematicians, and say if you can take 2 numbers, add them up together, and come up with a conclusion, its inescapable to dodge it, avoid it or reinterpret it. Why cant God present himself to us that way? Where you can take the major premise and minor premise and they're valid in their linkage and the deductions flow; why can't God be like that? especially as We're told that he has called us to reason together; and afterall He is the source of all right reasoning.
Others of us will say; Why can't he be like a lawyer? where you can take all of the accumulative evidence together, make the argument, present it to a jury and they come up with a conclusion beyond any reasonable doubt; why can't God muster up that kind of confluence of evidence; so that it becomes inescapable for you and me to make up the right deductions?
Then to some, why can't he be like an artist; where you stand on a high mountain peak, look out and see an absolutely spectacular sunset and it is indubitable at that moment that this is something beautiful and therefore, to the artistic mind, if we can just all take a look at all the glorious things He has created and say, "There's no other conclusion than that "; why can't he be like that kind of artist?
To the scientific mind, why can't he be like a scientist? Where you can take this liquid put it together with that liquid, put it into a testtube and over a burner; when it turns green it becomes obvious what the conclusion is. (to be continued )

Now, as you begin to pry in, and life wears on you, you begin to discover that the disciplines are too intricate for one single line of reasoning to make that knock down argument and close the case - it just doesn't work that way. Many of us will like to say... just give your tithes, pray, go to church, dont do this and do that - but it just doesn't work that way. No worldview, ever comes together just by one line of argument. There has to be a coalescing, a coming together of much and the ability to explain that which is to the contrary, else we keep going round circles, or keep taking a step forward and four backwards, being busy, but guilty.

We can put together, another link in this beautiful chain, by learning, to mind the gaps. You and I, have gaps in our experience with God that seems to feed the incoherence; below are some of these gaps:

1.When knowledge is not in keeping with reality - when what we think we know doesn't align with what We're seeing outside. This happens because of our finitude; we are just limited as human beings; yes we can do alot, and long to break beyond the barriers, we engage, learn, study, interact, keep pushing the limits.. but we realize more and more, that There's so much to be known that we don't know. It was Isaac Newton that one's remarked that Even as he got more and more into the years, he just felt like a little boy, sitting by the beach, just getting his toes wet when there was so much of the ocean of knowledge, into which he could never fully submerge himself.
We see great volumes like the encyclopedia Britannica, completed in 1974, taking 14years to complete, having a stat of 200 advisors, 300 editors, 4000 contributors, over 100000 entries, 34 million dollars, 43 million words; yet, this trumps and pales by contrast, in just one single strange locked into our DNA. Recent mappers of the DNA tells us there are 2.1 billion bits of information in our DNA. From a single fertilized ovum, over 9months ,billions of cells appear; up to 100 trillion cells from a single fertilized ovum. In a single thread of DNA, there are 600000 printed pages of information, a library of 1000 volumes, 50 times the size of Encyclopedia Britannica. The vastness, so much to know; yet the finitude of the human mind. Personally, I am a lover of books as some of us are. And some times when entering a bookstore or library, have to visit the restroom, out of sheer exhilaration and excitement of vastness of the knowledge and experience of man; but time and again I am reminded, that my mind is finite -and there will always be gaps (to be continued ).
