Kano Deports 60,000 Beggars To Four States, Other Countries by Marlboro1: 6:38am On Dec 22, 2015

Kano State Hisbah Board has repatriated 60,822 beggars to their respective states of origin and other countries between 2014 and 2015.
The director-general of the board, Abba Sufi, made the disclosure on Monday in Kano in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the beggars were arrested at different locations within Kano metropolis.

“Some of the beggars were arrested and handed over to the police, while others were taken to court for proper prosecution,” he said.
Mr. Sufi said those arrested were made up of 20,348 adult male and female beggars and 10,658 children beggars.
He explained that out of the number, 12,310 were from Kano state while 16, 988 were from Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa and Niger States, while 270 were foreigners.
Mr. Sufi, however, did not disclose the countries the beggars were deported to.

The D-G added that 22 beggars were handed over to the police, 82 were taken to court while 86 who were found to be suffering from mental disorder, and were referred for medical attention.

All are northern states, even when they have been in power longer than any other ethnic group, imagine if the Igbos or Yoruba where to rule this country for the same years the North has ruled, Nigeria won't be in this mess.

I hope they will not just deport these beggars back to their state to constitute nuisance. The Kano state government should work together with the state government of these beggars so that they can be properly re-integrated back into the society. I feel sad that over 10,000 children were arrested as beggars. This should be taken very seriously.

I JUST CANT BELIEVE THESES NORTHERNERS,SUCH LAZY BUNCH!! ...60,000 BEGGERS...!!!AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY IS BUSY WORKING FOR THEM.BEGGING MUST BE VERY A LUCRATIVE JOB.

But seriously these beggars take begging as a profession, I don't even give to beggars anymore especially if they are healthy. Even if they aren't they can still get by but choose to beg. I know beggars that send their children to school through begging, Some don't even accept less than N100. It has become a profession and there are becoming nuisance. Imagine begging in a place as populated as Kano, If 100 people could give you just N10 you have a thousand naira in just a day. Some people even ask beggars for change grin

. Those kids you see begging, some of them were organized by Alhajis to go beg and bring back the money...I wonder what they are given in return. It is time to put a stop to begging in the North. Kaduna have made a move now it is Kano, In Niger state the Nuisance aren't that much. This begging is a profession peculiar to the Hausas. The Gwaris, Nupes and some tribes in the North will never beg no matter how poor. They rather farm.
