2006 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro or 2007 Toyota Camry LE by lukman22: 7:24pm On Dec 25, 2015
I'm planning to pick up a 2006 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro January nxt yr. But am still having cold feet on whether to go ahead and make the purchase or go for 2007 Camry LE.
My considerations are :
1.Cost of maintenace
2. Availability of spares
3. Durability
4. Good technician to handle the unit.
I previously had a VW Passat 2.0T and it has never gave me issues apart from oil change and brake pads replacement. But I sold it because of fear of turbor braking down and issues of oil lose due to turbor failure.
Before I bought the Passat I had my mind on 2006 Audi A6,but was put off because of the timing chain situated at the back of the Engine. But I think I have found a way to handle the issue of timing chain if that is the only cons on Audi.
Please house, your candid advice is needed .
Thanks

Why not go for the audi a4 i4 Europe version? Our Mechanics are not too good with turbos and v6s.

2.4L euro version is not Quattro and has CVT gear system which is prone to failure. Also the 3.2 Quattro is not turbor. Thanks for ur advice anyway

It all depends on your plans .. how much you are willing to spend on cars and how long you want to use them.
If want a car that can cope with Nigerian factors( parts, technical skills, roads) for +/- 2 years =Audi. Then +/- 5 years = Camry.

The Audi is a better made car when compared to camry as they have better handling, more power they are built to last under ideal circumstances they also offer better driving experiences than Camry. How ever some factors unique to this part of the world ( availability of parts, Technical skills of the average technician lipsrsealed rewires) plus our maintenance culture can turn this technological masterpiece to a moving Nightmare in less than 5 years. I currently own a camry 2007 which is a superb powerful salon car that can give any germany car a real showdown when well maintained and the fact that it would never give up makes it ideal for me for now... you see it depends on your plans.. If you are willing to spend on original car parts regardless the cost any car would be ideal....

Even if you add $10,000 to the Camry; I'd still go for the Audi, because that Camry is an Armed Robber magnet especially in Lagos. I didn't mean to offend anybody, Pls - My opinion.

Bros,

I av a feeling u prefer the audi...thats from ur write up

U av used the passat and u loved it,i dont expect the audi to be a problem

Follow ur heart bro....life is short to live in fear

Edo State is Nigeria's capital of Audi. Am sure you can find or import Audi specialists from there if they aren't close to you.

But as good as Toyota products are, if you aren't in such funds as to replace them if stolen, I wouldn't recommend them

I don't think they will show up at all, the fear of Ikenna is the beginning of their silence. I won't deny the fact that the camry would be a good buy but one thing I hate about the camry and Accord is the fear of being accousted by men of the under world @ gun point, you need to see the way I get paranoid driving those cars especially when someone is following for a while. I have been in a bland camry LE and a well padded Hybrid camry LE with push to start button and I can say it is Whao wee. But as a fan of standing out, trying the Audi won't be a bad idea if someone can use it successfully, then you should have it in mind you can do it too.

If I were in your shoes I did play a safe card "remember I used IF" by buying a manual transmission coupled with a non turbo engine and I can still manage to do an AWD.

The A6 is more badass than the camry GLI not to even compare it with XLE.

Reason #1: Siena has roots in Edo State, the Nigerian Audi/Volkswagen capital.

Reason #2: All Aluminum body

Reason #3: All Wheel Drive

Reason #4: Bose Surround System

But do take a look at the caranddriver and cargurus reviews for this vehicle.

It is an all round nice vehicle

Bro there is no comparison between a RWD-biased V6 longitudinal-engine 4WD German car with a fuel-economy oriented Japanese car.

The Audi is heavier, handles better and has more grunt than the Camry. If you have the opportunity, take the 2 cars for test drives and compare their performances.

As per maintenance of the Audi, just be in contact with people like Siena if you have any issues. Plus there's enough resources on the internet to properly understand and troubleshoot your car.

Not all cars would have problems anyway, as long as you maintain it according to the manufacturer's specs and don't allow any roadside mech tamper with it, especially the engine.

Another problem with the Camry as many people have said, is the propensity to be stolen. All the best.

so, if i am in abuja or lagos and my Audi breaks down i should call my Edo base mech to jump on the next flight to fix it right ?, or just manage the Lag/abuja based Kassem who would you would be 80% sure that he is gonna be guess working..

Audi is the right choice on a very good day, but when you evaluate this using the criteria he listed , the Camry would pass with flying colors.
i own a camry for the same reasons he listed, but i love the audi more for the car that it is, i am happy it is his choice.. grin

It all depends on what u want in a car. All I know is dt Audi beats Camry in luxury, handling, safety not to talk of performance. Best wishes in whichever u settled on.

If I went for the Audi, I would bask in the comfort of knowing for a certainty that factory approved factory dealerships exist in Abuja and Lagos.

But nothing stops me making friends with someone who drives a similar vehicle so I can know his/her mechanic who might be an independent, trustworthy and lower cost than the dealership.

Even those with lots of money to throw away don't necessarily go to the dealerships but highly trained independent shops who know exactly what they are doing and specialize in high end vehicles such as this one, that might be a way out of this debacle

But if the worst came to the worst, and I still don't want to go to a dealership or to an independent in Abuja or Lagos, I know where to find a mechanic and it seems the cost of doing some of these things are cheaper in Edo than either Abuja or Lagos.

I have seen much more A6 and A8 and the A4 in Benin (in use and for sale) than I have seen in any other place in Nigeria I have been to, I know with such a critical mass, they have got to have specialists that one can turn to if the worst comes to the worst and expertise cannot be found elsewhere

Hence the suggestion
Finally, most certainly, I would not have gone for the Camry but the A6 if I were in the OP's situation

Volkswagen products including audi are superior to japanese products.

If the parts can be accesed the audi is preferable, these cars don't break down easily, I have a 1997 jetta for the past 4yrs its clocked 272,000km and is still going strong.

Even with faulty tie rods and shocks the car still takes me interstate, go for d audi
