FRIDAY JANUARY 1

Beyond The Present-

TEXT: ROMANS 11:1-6"Key Verse:*“But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal” (Romans 11:4).*"
The telescope was developed in 1609 by an Italian scientist of the Renaissance Age, Galileo, to establish the certainty of the movement of the earth round the sun. This tool led to the tradition of seeking what the future held in store for man. It was held that if man could invent the means of seeking farther than his immediate physical environment, he could also possibly project himself into the future without divine input and guidance. What a folly! FRIDAY JANUARY 1 To the almighty God only, is reserved the precise knowledge and fine details of the future and eternity; not to man or his short-sighted devices. And He reveals such secrets at His pleasure to His people (Deuteronomy 29:29). He did it for Apostle Paul by the leading of the Holy Spirit when he declared that Israel, God’s people, was only temporarily rejected.rnGod in His mercy had a bright future for them.rnPaul’s reference to Prophet Elijah who lived nearly 600 years earlierrnalso underscores the sorry condition of man when he presumes to know the depth of the present or the future. When the fiery prophet laments that he is the only one left in Israel who has not given in to the idol, Baal, the Omniscient says He has kept for Himself 7,000 others who have not “bowed unto Baal”.rnGod is still the Sovereign of the universe. He is aware of the minute details of what goes on in the world and in our lives (Matthew 10:29- 31). He is there at the beginning of the year and right there each step of the way throughout the year and beyond. We do not need a horoscope or palm reader or telescope to look into the future or to know what to expect in the New Year. Godrn has everything worked out for the faithful Christian as long as he is in the centre of His will every moment of his life, believing in His precious promises: “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).*Thought for the day: *Launch yourself into the New Year trusting only in the Lord of Eternity!

Evil Awaits Evil Persons-

TEXT: MICAH 2:1-5"Key Verse:*“Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil” (Micah 2:3).*"
The generation of Americans at the time of the end of the US War of Independence took a wise decision in framing conventions, treaties and ordinances to guide the allotment of land to the states. According to historians, the newly formed nation comprising 13 states would have been plunged into a more devastating conflict had there not been a strict adherence and enforcement of those laws. Now far back in history, the childrenofIsraelinthedaysof Prophet Micah failed to follow God’s precepts on land inheritance. The Lord knew the destructive consequences of dispute over land, so He had divided portions of the Promised Land among the tribes of Israel. His perfect plan would not make room for any encroachment as no tribe or family was without inheritance. Even the daughters of Zelophehad who were first denied land possession because their father had nomale child had the decision reversed by God.However, several centuries later, Israel set aside God’s laws onland possession. A rich and powerful class emerged that applied force to seize the property of the poor. These people had no other business than to plot evil from dawn to dusk. God would not stand indifferent. So in verse 3, He pronounced woe upon the perpetrators of evil, oppression and land-grabbers. Man cannot get away with disobedience to God. There may be a deceptive lull blinding the perpetrator from perceiving the looming danger. Yet, unless the sinner repents, he cannot escape the full weight of the sentence and eteal perdition. God is always waiting for that crucial moment of godly sorrow on thepart of the wicked. It is not an endless wait, though. One day the door of mercy shall beshut and the Lord shall say to the tardy and thenegligent: “...I know you not whence ye are;depart from me...” (Luke 13:27).*Thought for the day: *The wicked will harvest evil on the day of judgment.

Unassailable Love-

GALATIANS 6:1-5*Key Verse:*""

Early in 2015, a woman’s globallyn acclaimed charity work for thenpoor in India was disparaged byninsinuations that her motives werennot altruistic. Her critics claimed thatnthe nun’s enormous sacrifices for thensick and the underclass were notnboe out of genuine love andndetermination to uplift them, but ratheto convert the idolatrous Hindus shenfed and looked after to Christianity.nThese adversaries were notnswayed by the woman’s lifetime vownto give “wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor”. Theicomments on the intentions of the respected charity worker causedna storm worldwide with most people coming to the aid of the latennun. They insisted that only genuine love for the poor as commandednby Jesus Christ could have led the woman to live all her life amongnthe poor, and spend and be spent till the day of her death.nTo love Christ’s way is to offer sacrificial service in the belief thatnone is doing it because the Lord commands it. The law of Christ is tonlove your enemy, love your neighbour as yourself. It is to love youspouse with all his or her imperfections as the Lord Himself loved usnso much that while we were yet in sin, He offered to die for us so wenwould not perish if we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.nTo fulfil the law of Christ is to follow in His footsteps. We mustnstoop to serve the brethren and the Church of Christ. Our servicenmust not be to align with the mood or pleasure of the world. Instead, nit must be as a result of our love for the Lord and His work. If we loventhe Lord and His commandments, we shall loventhe brethren.nThis Christ-like sacrificial love is missing innthe world today. Genuine Christians must fillnthe gap to honour our Saviour*Thought for the day: *True greatness lies in being a channel of blessing to

The Perfect Reign Is Coming

-2 CHRONICLES 6:1-6"Key Verse:*“But I have chosennJerusalem, that my namenmight be there; and havenchosen David to be overnmy people Israel”n(2 Chronicles 6:6).*"
Bible scholars agree that the goldenn age of ancient Israel was duringnthe reign of Solomon, son of KingnDavid. They hold the view that thenperiod witnessed unprecedentednpeace, power, prosperity, prestige andnan ambitious expansion of thenkingdom. Another indisputablenconsensus is that the era began withnSolomon inviting God to step into thenproject of ruling the people from daynone.nSolomon pleaded while dedicatingnthe temple in Jerusalem: “Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thineneyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is madenin this place”. God’s answer to the request is found in the tranquilitynand blessedness enjoyed in Israel in the days of Solomon. The youngnmonarch swam in splendour and greatness not witnessed by hisnfather whose reign was full of rebellion and family troubles. Solomonnwas endowed with wisdom, knowledge and understanding thatnattracted great men and woman from far and near to his palace. Hisnproverbs and sayings were not ordinary. His utterances soothed andncomforted the sorrowful.nAlthough rich, Solomon still saw kings and queens bringing morenwealth to him. You enjoy prosperity when you ask God to step intonyour affairs.nWe may marvel at the abundance supply in the time of Solomon.nBut it is only symbolic of a far better reign which is to come undethe Perfect King Jesus Christ. It foreshadows the eteal reign of thenKing of kings in Whose time we shall have an“kingdom, that all people, nations, andnlanguages, should serve him: his dominion isnan everlasting dominion, which shall not passnaway, and his kingdom that which shall not bendestroyed” (Daniel 7:14).*Thought for the day: *Eternal bliss awaits those who endure till the end.

Awesome Judgment-

PSALM 82:1-7"Key Verse:*"They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course" (Psalm 82:5).*"
A private in the United States Army medical department became extremely nervous when told the colonel-in-charge wanted to see him.He had not met such a senior officer before; so, he wondered what awaited him. He thought with apprehension what offence he might have committed that was to bring the boss' wrath on him. A more awesome dread is the lot of those who are responsible for putting "all the foundations of the earth out of course". The worried writer of Psalm 82 surveys the spiritual desolation where there is gross miscarriage of justice and asks for how long this would go on. From this pedestal, he cries out to man to go back to where God wants him to be. He must resort to fair judgment; he must not decide matters to favour the rich and the powerful in society; he must not look on while the defenceless is deprived of his goods and rights. A society in the long run is not assessed by its wealth or number of rich men. It is rated by how it accommodates the weak elements in its fold. Since nothing escapes the all-seeing eyes of God, the psalmist offers the inevitable: "Arise, O God, judge the earth". But God does not takenpleasure in the death of the wicked (Ezekiel 18:32). He has made provision for the sinner to make right his way and secure pardon. He sent Jesus Christ to die a proxy death for the wicked so that the latter's sin does not take him into eteal destruction. When the sinner thus has his sin cleansed by the blood of Jesus, he does not need to have any fear of the wrath of God if he remains faithful to Him.It is those who are not sure about their relationship with God who fear each time there is a message on the coming of the Lord. A genuine Christian, saved, sanctified and serving the Lord faithfully should not be like the American soldier*Thought for the day: *Fear of God's laws promotes love for His second coming.

Encountering God's Love In Adversity-

LAMENTATIONS 3:55-58"Key Verse:*"Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not" (Lamentations 3:57).*"
When Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 5 that the tree of hope is watered by tribulation, patience and experience, he was being taught by God to restate the truth He revealed to Prophet Jeremiah some 660 years earlier. Like Paul whose experience of hardship in the course of faithfully serving the Lord drove him further to love and trust God, Jeremiah's similar persecution led him to hope in God Who did not disappoint him. As he wrote the book of Lamentations, Jeremiah recalled his celebrated encounter with the faithfulness of God when he was thrown into the pit by the princes of Judah. Left alone to die in the dungeon, the prophet cried unto the Almighty for deliverance from the hands of his enemies. God rescued him in his hour of need. Following his experience, Jeremiah was emboldened to plead for Jerusalem when the Babylonian army invaded Judah and wasted the land. A Christian's challenges in his day-to-day activities and how the Lord helps him overcome them must form the basis of his hope in Him. The believer in the Lord is allowed to pass through some trials and temptations in order to strengthen and enable him bear his cross. When testimonies of such deliverances are shared among the brethren, they serve to edify the saints as well as win souls for the Lord. The moments of persecution and affliction are no moments to flinch from God. They are times to be grateful to Him for the salvation He has wrought for us and for preparing heaven for the redeemed. It is a moment to praise God in anticipation of deliverance; they are moments to remember what He did for us in the past. We must believe in the God "Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us" (2 Corinthians 1:10).*Thought for the day: *God's compassions fail not; they are new every morning.

Divine Prophecy Dramatized

-EZEKIEL 4:9-17
Key Verse:

"Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment" (Ezekiel 4:16).
Secular actors and playwrights pride themselves on their skill and ability to work at drama they claim is useful to correcting the ills of the society. Their writing has led to the creation of a huge industry that it has offered employment to thousands of citizens. But there is a downside: it is a mode Pied Piper of Hamelin playing deadly tunes drawing most of society into sensuality, irreverence and ultimate moral bankruptcy and eteal damnation. The time to visit sinning Judah had come. The land was filled to the brim with rebellion, apostasy and idol worship. The law of Moses given to guide the children of Israel in the path of righteousness some 875 years earlier had been set aside. In its place were idolatrous conduct and immorality. Punishment was coming via a siege and eventual fall of Jerusalem. But first, the warning was through a dramatization symbolism of the wrath to come. God asked His servant, Ezekiel, to lie on his left side in the full view of the residents of Jerusalem. He would do so for 390 days. Next, he was to rest on his right side for 40 more days. All these indicated that the people of Jerusalem would have their activities severely restricted under a siege coming their way. There would be food shortages as symbolised by the small amount of food Ezekiel was asked to take (verses 9-11). He was asked to cook his food over cow's excrement to reflect Judah's spiritual defilement. Ezekiel acted all these in obedience to the Lord. His complete submission to God's order is a lesson to his followers. We must be willing to witness for the Lord on His own terms without seeking permission for adjustments to suit us. We must pray for greater boldness to "dramatically portray the sins" of society the Ezekiel way, without minding the comments of friends, colleagues and relations.

Thought for the day: The old-time religion is still the answer to taming sin.

No Room for Boasting

-ROMANS 11:12-18"Key Verse:*"Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee" (Romans 11:18).*"
According to a story in the Grand Rapids Press, the owner of a small foreign car had begun to irritate his friends by bragging incessantly about his gas mileage. So they decided on a way to get some humour out of his tireless boasting, as well as bring it to an end. Every day, one of them would sneak into the parking lot where the man kept his car and pour a few gallons of gas into the tank. Soon he was recording absolute phenomenal mileage and boasting of getting as much as 90 miles pergallon. It was even more fun to watch his reaction when they stopped refilling the tank. The poor fellow couldn't figure out what had happened to his car. Paul the apostle in our text spoke about our salvation as entirely the work of grace, leaving no room for boasting. Israel were set aside due to their present rejection of Christ and the grafting in of the gentiles that followed through faith. Gentile believers are cautioned not to boast about the favour they now have, but rather be thankful and humble, lest their rejoicing and unguarded attitude lead to their fall. The exhortation from this text should be taken seriously by every standing believer today. There are many reasons we should avoid the euphoria of thinking we have already arrived, and boasting ourselves against those who have fallen from the faith. One of the reasons we should never boast is because we are saved by grace through faith and not by our own works. We equally should remember that the story of those who fell could be our story if we become careless and prayerless. The doctrine of eteal unconditional security does not have a place since God is no respecter of persons; those who sin against Him will face the wrath of His judgment as their former walk with Him in times past will no longer count.*Thought for the day: *The discerning runs purely on the fuel of grace.

Never An Easy Ride-

JEREMIAH 12:1-6"Key Verse:*"If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? #@and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?" (Jeremiah 12:5).*"
A story was told of a boy who deliberately failed third grade so he wouldn't have to go into fourth grade and write with ink. Today, our children are not worrying about ink in elementary school but are leaing to use simple computer programs so they'll be prepared to use more difficult programs in high school and college. There's no growth without challenge, and there's no challenge without change.Prophet Jeremiah had this theological crisis in our text. He found himself struggling with the paradox of wicked people prospering. He couldn't understand why a holy God would permit false prophets and unfaithful priests to prosper while he, His faithful servant, was facing trials. God's reply to him wasn't the kind he expected. Instead of focusing on the wicked, he was encouraged to concentrate on himself. He was told not to expect an easy ride as the life of the prophet involves suffering. Jeremiah probably would have had a comfortable and secure life if he had not accepted the call to be a prophet. He was like a man running a race and having a hard time keeping up. He was now to progress running with foot soldiers to racing with fast horses. And from a level playing ground to coping with an overflowing Jordan. As Christian pilgrims, we must not expect an easy ride. Life on the narrow road can bring about hardships, misunderstanding and opposition by even members of our own families. Each new challenge (horses, jungles, opposition of relatives) will help us develop our faith and prepare us for more fruitful ministry and heaven at last.*Thought for the day: *An easy life stifles maturity; challenges develop spiritual muscles.

Danger Of Backsliding-

2 KINGS 1:1-6"Key Verse:*"And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease" (2 Kings 1:2).*"
Bertrand Russell was bo into a Christian home and taught to believe in God, but he rejected his training and became an outspoken atheist. His daughter, Katherine Tait, said of him, "Somewhere at the bottom of his heart, in the depths of his soul, there was an empty space that once had been filled by God, and he never found anything else to put in it." In the days of Elijah, Israel continued in the sins of Jeroboam, a well-celebrated index case of SUNDAY JANUARY 10 backsliding in the northe kingdom. Ahaziah, the ninth king to rule this part of Israel continued in the sins and wickedness of his fathers when he ascended the throne. The consequence of his sinful reign was terrible. First, the economy suffered a recession when Moab, a tributary nation, rebelled against Israel. His health equally took a downward tu when he accidentally fell from his upper chamber. His attempt to seek solution from the gods of the Ekronites was rebuffed by God through Elijah the prophet, who communicated God's judgment on him through his messengers: he will die of the disease for failing to seek the God of Israel. We lea a lot from this passage. Those who knowingly depart from the teachings of God's word to seek refuge in darkness must be prepared to cope with the evil that lurks in dark places. And when we already know that our problems are caused by our iniquities, we must repent and retu to God rather than seek help from places where there is no help. Those who continue to seek solution from the wrong sources must realise that they are on a wild goose chase. Seeking help from a woman with familiar spirit brought down the kingdom of Saul and contributed to his eventual death (1 Chronicles 10:13). Retuing to God for mercy still remains the only viable option.*Thought for the day: *Hard is the way of transgressors.

Purpose-Driven Life-

2 CHRONICLES 2:1-10"Key Verse:*"And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom" (2 Chronicles 2:1).*"
The most basic question everyone faces in life is "Why am I here"? "What is my purpose"? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren, the author of the book, "Purpose Driven Life" says the starting place must be with God and His eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God's purposes for putting us on earth. From our text, king Solomon eventually began to fulfill his life purpose of building a temple to the great God of Israel. He was determined to fulfill this goal without highlighting and magnifying the difficulties around him. He requested assistance from Huram, the king of Tyre, in the cutting of cedar and algum trees which will be floated from Lebanon to Israel and the provision of an expert who can work on the temple utensils and vessels to bring the work to the desired standard. Solomon would in turn, send to Huram agricultural produce which will represent payment for the goods and services from Tyre. Solomon knew that his life purpose was to build a befitting temple to the glory, honour and majesty of God. He therefore, must have spent quality time thinking and strategising on how this vision of building God a house can be realized. He had an attitude which brought him to the altitude he desired. Fulfilling our God-given destiny cannot be by accident. Let's not sit down and wait for our life dreams and goals to happen by accident. Let's maintain the right attitude and seize every opportunity to drive our goals towards their achievement. God gives visions to individuals who will then seek helpers to help drive their vision to reality. Beloved, look out for those helpers and strike the iron while it is hot.*Thought for the day: *Stop looking for excuses; drive your vision with the right attitude.

Prophets Of Wine And Strong Drink

-MICAH 2:6-13

Key Verse:

"If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people" (Micah 2:11).
Research studies by one Paul Harvey, show that after drinking three bottles of alcohol, there is an average of 13 percent net of memory loss. After taking only small quantities of alcohol, trained typists were tested and their errors increased by 40 percent. Only one ounce of alcohol increases the time required to make a decision by nearly 10 percent; hinders muscular reaction by 17 percent; increases errors due to lack of attention by 35 percent.God's case against Israel and Judah was outlined in Micah's prophecy. Although he started out from the first chapter to lament over the sins of Israel, the people appeared very indifferent to his calls. They continued in their sins while their condition grew worse. From our text, the Israelites were preventing prophets from doing their work. They made themselves enemies of God by moving farther away from Him. They desired preachers who taught error and supported their appetite for strong drink and wine. Micah warned of God's impending judgment; even as he prophesied that the Lord will break them in pieces in His wrath. So-called Christians who drink alcohol have tarnished their testimonies to the world - as well as to those in the church. And the ones who are hurt the most by these compromised behaviours are children. Youths of this present generation are so far away from God that they consider even church attendance unnecessary. When a sinner knows and acknowledges his or her sinfulness, there is hope for restoration. But when they come to the point of willful disobedience and resisting every attempt to reprove them, their condition becomes pathetic. The world has fallen to its lowest state of depravity with the happenings we witness every day. Wise believers will firmly take a stand, never to be part of the world's depravity.

Thought for the day: It is sheer folly to make a prophet of wine one's model preacher.

Religion Or Righteousness?

-GALATIANS 6:11-18
Key Verse:

"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature" (Galatians 6:15).
William Booth, a Methodist preacher who started the Salvation Army in England in the middle 1800's was once asked what dangers he thought lay ahead for Christianity. He replied, "In answer to your inquiry, I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell".Paul the Apostle in our text, concluded a large letter to the Galatians primarily aimed at keeping them in the faith without giving in to preachers of Judaism and advocates of religion that cannot save. In this conclusion, he reminded these precious converts in Galatia that the Jewish traditionalist's outreach to them is to make them conform to their religion and customs. He reminded them that the circumcision which counts in the sight of God is not that which is outward but the inward heart circumcision. The confusion about which teachings takes precedence; the Bible or tradition continues today. Many, today, respect the traditions of their churches over and above God's word. Some ignorantly believe their church leaders are infallible, that is, they cannot make mistakes. Those who are fanning the embers of religion must understand that people don't get to heaven by complying with man's requirements. It is only God's immutable dictates and the necessary compliance that will get sincere seekers to heaven. No wonder Jesus denounced the religious leaders of his days for teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Upon which foundation do you stand? The Bible or tradition? Making models of religious men who are blinded by tradition, and neglecting the inspired word of God carries grave consequences. Please be warned!

Thought for the day: Single-minded faith, not religion, is the gateway to heaven.

Confederates Against The Truth

- PSALM 83:1-8

Key Verse:

"For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee" (Psalm 83:5).
America's moral decline rapidly accelerated following one event - the US Supreme Court's removal of prayer from the nation's schools. On June 25, 1962, 39 million students were forbidden to do what they and their predecessors had been doing since the founding of the nation - publicly calling upon the name of the Lord at the beginning of each school day. The school children have always prayed thus: "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee and beg Thy blessing over us, our parents, our teachers and our nation". Since this prayer was stopped, America has experienced radical decline in each of the four areas which the children's prayer touched upon: youth, family, education and national life. The psalmist in our text, cried out to God, pointing out the apparent unity of a group of nations confederate against Israel. About ten nations were named in our text as a coalition of the willing, joined together in one mind to wipe Israel out of the earth. The psalmist does not appear to recommend any human defensive mechanism in confronting this group. Rather, he puts his hope in God to defend and protect His people. The enemy is doing everything he can today to invade the Church and lead us down the path of peril. The homes and families are also under severe attack. Children are being taught evolution in schools, and made to accept homosexuality as a normal life. The seat of learning has been hijacked by the devil to teach the children that God is a myth from our repressed past. In the West, the situation is worst as the present generation does not have any desire to worship God. They are completely engrossed in the pursuit of fleshly lusts and damning pleasures of the world. We must arise quickly and sound the alarm against evil. We must cry out unto God. We must pray for a revival of righteousness and holiness in our age.

Thought for the day: A timely warning can save a soul in danger.

His Sacred Promises!

-ROMANS 11:25-36

Key Verse:

"For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance" (Romans 11:29).
Great monarchs of old pride themselves on the strength of their words, decrees and promises. Their words are so powerful that they are not carelessly uttered. Once they make a promise, their integrity lies on the strength and reliability of their promises. Apart from monarchs, men of integrity in every age are respected for their ability to keep to their promises. A man is said to be a "man of his words" when he is known to be trustworthy and dependable. But we know that however sincere a man can be when he makes a promise, his limited human nature can make him to fail in living up to his words. But not with God! Whatever He promises, He also has the power to accomplish. No situation or circumstance places a limitation on Him. He does not suffer a mood-swing that makes Him oscillate on His promise. Also, God does not make a rash promise which He thinks He does not mean. He says what He means and means what He says. His promises are irrevocable. This truth is revealed in His dealings with the children of Israel as revealed in our text. God specially chose the nation of Israel to be His people. He promised to always be with them and bless them as long as they obey. And when they sin, He would punish them by rejecting them. The purpose of this severe chastisement is to make them, on the long run, repent and return to Him. This promise remains unchanging. It is encouraging to know that we can rely wholly on God's words and not fear that He may change His mind or fail us. At the same time, we must bear in mind that His promises of judgment will not fail as well. While He has promised great blessings for those who live and walk in righteousness, He has also promised to judge all those who ignore Him and live in wickedness. These promises cannot fail.

Thought for the day: God never oscillates on His promises.

Cleave To Him

-JEREMIAH 13:1-14

Key Verse:

"For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear" (Jeremiah 13:11).
Educators know the importance of using visual aids to help learners understand the lesson being passed across. In the past, this form of teaching was thought to be only relevant and appropriate to young learners. With the application of modern technological devices to the teaching and learning process, however, this method has been found to have profound effects in the teaching of various categories of learners. God, the Master Teacher, had always employed this method in helping His people understand in clear and vivid terms, the message He is trying to pass across to them. In our text, He used the waist cloth to show how close the children of Israel were to Him. As long as the waist cloth was tied to the prophet Jeremiah, it remained okay and useful. But the moment it was loosed from him and buried away somewhere, it lost its usefulness and became corrupted. How illustrative this is! As long as the children of Israel stayed close to God, they were at their best. But once they detached themselves from Him and got buried in the world of sinful pleasure and idolatry, their beauty became corrupted and their usefulness lost. They became good for nothing except to be thrown away in judgment. The lesson is clear to us as Christians today. We cannot survive without God. Our usefulness, value and beauty are only ensured and enhanced as long as we remain close to Him. As we walk by His side and obey His words daily, we receive the needed vitality and grace to live, blossom and flourish. But once we lose ourselves free from the Lord to get entangled with the world and be buried in its sinful concerns and pleasures, we begin to die and decay.

Thought for the day: Our relevance to life is made manifest by our attachment to God.

A Double Loss!

-2 KINGS 1:13-18

Key Verse:

"And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die" (2 Kings 1:16).
There are some inevitable things humans are often afraid of and will, as much as possible, try to avoid or at the best, push forward. One of such inevitable things is death. Nobody wants to face this reality of life. Many people will do whatever is in their power to avoid it. But the truth is, whether it comes today or much later, it will certainly come. What is best for us to do therefore, is to be ready for it. King Ahaziah had taken seriously ill, owing to a domestic accident he had in his palace. Becoming so concerned over his state, he wanted to know if he would recover from his ailment. He was obviously afraid to die. But instead of asking counsel from God, he sought after Baalzebub, the god of Ekron. Sure, he had no confidence to approach God because of the life of sin and wickedness he had lived. Sin robs one of the boldness to approach God's throne of mercy. Unfortunately for him, Elijah confronted his obstinacy and gave him a message that he would die. But instead of seizing this as an opportunity to cry unto God for mercy in repentance, he chose to fight God by fighting the man of God. On the long run, he died. His was a double loss; he lost here on earth and in eternity! There are certainly some things in life that are actually unpleasant and discomforting which we want to find solutions to. We may be struggling with life-threatening sickness, financial burden owing to joblessness and economic hardship, delay in childbearing, etc. We should be very mindful how we seek solutions to these problems. It is important to ensure that we do not succumb to the pressure of seeking solutions away from God. Whatever the situation, we must remain true to Him. Those who run away from Him to seek solutions elsewhere, end up compounding their problems. They suffer a double loss!

Thought for the day: There is no true help outside God.

The Best For His Service

-2 CHRONICLES 2:11-18

Key Verse:

"And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's" (2 Chronicles 2:13).
The place of service and the personality to be served often determines the choice of the servant. In every case, great men often look out for the most skillful and talented to enter into their service. The retinue of a king speak volumes of his glory and wealth and the quality of the service to be rendered. King Solomon had undertaken to build a house for the Lord in fulfillment of the dream of his father, David. With all the necessary materials put in place, he needed the best hands to handle the work. Huram was sent as one of the people to undertake the work. His résumé shows he was the best in the service of the king of Tyre who had recommended him. The lesson we draw from here is the quality of men that we recommend or take into the service of the King of kings. If building the kingdom of God is truly the greatest and most important service any mortal can be privileged to enter into, we should be careful to select the best hands to do this. It is disheartening to know that some people give themselves to the service of the Lord only after they have retired from the service of the world. When the best of their youthfulness and energy has been used up, that is when they want to give the ‘leftover' of their lives to God. Although God chooses "the foolish things of this world to confound the wise", this does not absolve us of our responsibility to see that we improve on our skills so that we can give our best to God. If we always bear in mind that we have been given the greatest privilege to be in the highest The Bible form of service, we will know that we cannot but give our very best to it. It is only then that we can render an acceptable and rewardable service.

Thought for the day: Don't throw your leftover to God; He deserves your very best!

Awesome Judgment

-MICAH 3:1-12

Key Verse:

"Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings" (Micah 3:4).
At times, we wonder why, with all our prayers and fasting, the heavens appear quiet, still and difficult to penetrate. In our part of the world, there has not been a time in history when we had an increase in religious activities as there is today. The volumes of prayers that rise each day, and the gamut of the "prophecies" that are being received appear to be completely rubbished by the cries of woes and oppressions the ordinary man is facing. Why does it appear that the heavens are sealed against us? Why are we having tales of woes instead of testimonies of triumph? God answers these questions in the proclamation of prophet Micah to the people of Judah in our passage for meditation today. With the whole people given to corruption, from the leadership to the led, the priests, the prophets and the people, there was no way the heavens could pay attention to them. In fact, God resolved to deal with them as they had behaved contrarily towards Him. It was very sad that everyone was caught up in the corruption and rebellion that ravaged the land. The priests and prophets who should have turned the people to the right path became themselves very corrupt. They lied to the people, took advantage of their miserable conditions to exploit and milk them dry. It is not the number of prophets that roam the streets that matters. It is not the number of churches that counts either. It is not our proud claim of religious piety. As prophets and priests of God, we must ensure that we are true to our calling. Preach the truth without fear or favour. We must truly follow the Lord and refuse to give support to those who lie in His name, claiming they are prophets. These we must do if we want God to hear us when we cry to Him.

Thought for the day: The heavens will remain silent to those who turn their backs against God.

When Dreams Are Fulfilled!

- 2 CHRONICLES 5:1-10

Key Verse:

"Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God" (2 Chronicles 5:1).
There is nothing as satisfying as seeing that we successfully accomplish the projects we set out to execute. However, more satisfying is the fact that we have been able to put a good succession plan in place to ensure the continuity of what we spent our lifetime to plan and pursue. This is what truly defines success. Whether in a family setting, a business enterprise, a church ministry or a political setup, failure to put in place a good succession plan can rubbish all the good things one has spent his lifetime to labour on. Today's text shows the completion of the building of the temple and the placement of the ark of the Lord and other instruments in the temple. It was a mission accomplished and dream realized both for Solomon and his late father, King David. It will be the joy of every parent or leader to see their successors follow up conclusively on their visions and dreams. To make for the continuity of good and viable dreams, there is need to have a good and well laid out succession plan. Properly document the plan and see that it is well communicated to the would-be successor. In addition, adequate provisions must be made for the continuity and accomplishment of the vision. David was able to do all these before passing on the baton to his son, Solomon. We must take a cue from Solomon. He committed himself from the onset of his ascension to the throne to pursue and fulfill his father's dream. As the baton to fulfil God's mandate is passed on to us, the onus lies on us to see that we passionately drive the vision till it is accomplished. Posterity will judge us for what we did with the opportunity given to us by God.

Thought for the day: Better to be a dream-maker than a dream-killer.

Stripped Of Honour

- LAMENTATIONS 1:1-11

Key Verse:

"Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her unclothedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward" (Lamentations 1:cool.
Many times, we are shocked as we watch men who had once occupied great positions of honour sank into disgrace and stripped of their once cherished prestige. This is true of some great political leaders and athletes. As soon as acts of wrong doings are discovered against them, they are stripped of the honour they once enjoyed and led away to jail. Great businessmen, popular entertainment stars, former Olympic gold medalists, etc., have had all their glories and wealth taken away from them as a result of a wrong doing. Sin brings disgrace. Jerusalem was once the envy of the nations around her. She lived in plenty and enjoyed the special favour of God. But soon, she got carried away and lived in pride, rebellion and all sorts of abominations forbidden by God. She also ignored all the warnings and entreaties of prophets to repent and turn back to God. Because she refused to yield, God gave her up. She was stripped of all that once made her proud, led to captivity and her land ravaged and destroyed. She that was once the envy of others was now despised and mocked by all. To enjoy our envied position of honour in the Kingdom of God, we must steer clear from sin. We cannot remain compatible with God if we walk contrary to His words. Sin has never added anything good to one's life. Rather, it takes away all the good that he has. Examples abound of many who once walked in the path of God but later chose to go the way of the world. They now live in bitter regret of their unfortunate actions. We must not be deceived. There is no pleasure whatsoever in sin. Don't get carried away by its alluring glamour and damning satisfaction. Once entrapped, it sucks life out of the deceived. And worse, it leads to hell. Sin is both deadly and damning.

Thought for the day: Always remember this refrain: "Sin brings disgrace"!

How Do You Rate Yourself?

-ROMANS 12:1-8

Key Verse:

"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith" (Romans 12:3).
Many people often have an exaggerated opinion of themselves. This may be because of skills they possess or their high attainments in the activities and professions of the world. For some, it may be due to their illustrious family background. Either way, a bloated self-esteem is dangerous, as it can blind the mind to good reasoning and conduct. Unfortunately, this is not just a problem in the world, but also among Christians. Hence, Apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, prescribed practical guidelines on how Christians should live. They must present themselves as living sacrifices to God. They must be holy, for that makes them acceptable to Him. They must not conform to the standards of the world, but be transformed and renewed in mind. They must moderate their self-esteem, recognizing that God has endowed everyone differently. They must function as parts of the human body which, though separate, are inter-related and work in complete unity. Each person has a different gift, and God expects Christians to use their gifts according to the proportion of faith in them. We should neither under-estimate nor over-estimate ourselves. Actually, the basis of our self-esteem is not in evaluating ourselves by worldly standards of success, but in recognizing that what makes the difference is our identity in Christ. Without Christ, we will fail all tests by scriptural, eternal standards. Whatever our talents, we must recognise that they are incomplete without the support of other people's gifts. The earlier we realise that no one person can do the work of God alone, the better for us, and the more realistic we become in assessing ourselves.

Pride Is Dangerous

-JEREMIAH 13:15-27

Key Verse:

"But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive" (Jeremiah 13:17).
One of the deadliest effects of pride is that it shuts a person's senses to good reason and blinds him to his weaknesses and limitations. It makes him think he is more important than other people. Such a person does not see any need to change his ways. As a result, he ends up suffering defeat and experiencing severe setbacks in life. In his numerous entreaties to the people of Judah, Prophet Jeremiah warned them to abandon pride, listen to, and obey God's commands. He urged them to humble themselves before the almighty God. He warned them that they were toying with the danger of being forcefully sent on exile as captives in the hand of a merciless foreign power. Their land would be stripped bare of men and animals, and left desolate because of their pride, arrogance and rebellion against God. He wondered why they were unwilling to change their ways, especially considering the danger that awaits them. He could not understand why they continued to disregard God and believe in the false hope that no harm would come to them for their actions. Yet, for their rebellion and numerous sins, God rendered them helpless and brought them to shame before their enemy. Like the men of Judah, pride still hinders people from abandoning their sinful and indulgent lifestyles. They look down on God, just as they do to other people. They leave no room for God in their plans. Such people are so set in their behaviour that they lose the desire to change their ways. This is a very dangerous state to be in. The only option open to people in this condition is to recognise their folly and quickly repent, else, face dire consequences of their action.

Thought for the day: Those who shrug shoulders at God's word will sooner or later, suffer bruised ego.

Focus On Your Goal

-2 KINGS 2:1-6

Key Verse: "And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on" (2 Kings 2:6).

Things that are significant, enduring and greatly beneficial, do not usually come easily. They demand hard work, dedication and focus. They require that you are painstaking, single-minded and shun all distractions, even when you do not fully understand how your objective will be achieved. Prophet Elijah had known that his ministry on earth was coming to an end. Years earlier, he had, at God's command, appointed Elisha, a successful farmer, to assist him. God knew that Elijah had trained him enough, and that Elisha would continue with the work begun by Elijah. Yet, Elijah did not presumptuously hand over power to Elisha. He decided to put him to test to see if he was prepared for the task ahead. As his departure approached, he initiated a journey from Gilgal, first to Bethel, then to Jericho, and eventually to Jordan. From the beginning, he sought to discourage Elisha from embarking on the journey with him. But he would not be dissuaded. Even the students in the training school for prophets, the so-called "sons of the prophets" also keep taunting him about the imminent departure of his master. But if they thought that would discourage him, they too were disappointed. Elisha himself knew that his boss was about to go to heaven, and he had a goal in mind: to receive the final blessing of his master. So, he was unflinching in his resolve, as "they two went on" the journey. Heaven is the goal of all genuine Christians. Therein lies the blessings untold which God our Father has prepared for us. But in the journey to heaven, we would run into disappointments, discouragements and distractions. But whatever we experience in life, we must focus on getting there. We must live righteously, obey God completely and serve Him fervently as He commands.

Thought for the day: Set your mind on a goal, and the sky will truly be your starting point.

Let Christ Reign In Your Life

-MICAH 4:1-7

Key Verse: "And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever" (Micah 4:7)

Very often, some people settle for things that bring some benefits without having to work for them. They conclude that these must be blessings from God, though they live in complete disobedience to His rules and guidelines for life. In the event, they take God's mercies for granted. God's desire is to be Lord and Master over the nation of Israel. But the people seemed to have forgotten this, having been buffeted by the bitter experiences of life. Yet, the Lord assured them that at the end of the age, He will reign as King over all the earth. And Jerusalem which had been invaded, occupied and destroyed so many times, will be the seat of His power. Many people on earth would flock there to be taught the right way to live to please Him. At the time, all wars will cease, and the Lord will rule in peace. All people will go about their daily business without fear; the people will make Him their God forever. At that time, the Lord will gather victims of the world's wicked system; those that had been exiled to the furthermost parts of the earth. He will forgive their sins, receive them to Himself again and reign over them forever. Unfortunately, at this time, many people on earth will continue to call on the name of their gods, but Israel "will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever". As it will be at the end of time, so it is today. Real peace, happiness, joy and security can only be found in the Lord. His blessings are of superior quality compared to anything men may get elsewhere. But this is only for those who have entrusted their lives into His hands, who are now guided by God's command and have made Him their Lord and Master. Once He reigns over one's life, the best on earth and in eternity becomes his possession.
Thought for the day: God's rest and best are reserved for those who pass His test

Joy In God's Presence

- PSALM 84:1-12

Key Verse:
"For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness" (Psalm 84:10).

The greatest desire of man is to find peace and happiness in the things that make life fulfilling. Unfortunately, for many people, this remains an empty aspiration because all their efforts are in the wrong direction. Such people go through life without realising their dreams or enjoying the true essence of living. The psalmist was different. He yearned to get away from the daily hustle and bustle of life to find a place of rest and quiet meditation in the presence of the Lord, in His house. He recognised that those who dwell in the house of the Lord were blessed, especially because they tended to draw strength from Him and obtain grace to walk in His ways. Often, they begin to thirst more for God because of the experiences of life which are likened to a walk through the "valley of Baca", a period when God seems far, when prayers seem unanswered and when hopes for a change seem to fade away. Yet, those who persevere in trusting God and walk uprightly before Him at such a time will find, not just satisfaction, but strength to continue in life's journey. God becomes "a Sun and Shield" over them. He gives them more grace and withholds no good thing from them. Whatever trial and tribulation, struggles and tears we experience in life, when we are in the presence of God, we not only draw strength, but discover that adversities have become stepping stones to God's faithfulness and blessings. When we pray, God answers and grants all we need to live for Him.
Thought for the day: God's presence offers life's greatest needs: joy and pleasure forever.

God Answers Prayers

-2 CHRONICLES 6:12-21

Key Verse:

"Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee" (2 Chronicles 6:19).
We often search for solution to our problems everywhere else except where it matters most: from the prayer of thy servant, and God. Our problems blind us to our best interests, and they make God appear so distant or even unconcerned about our pressing circumstances. Yet, genuine succour can only come when we talk to God King Solomon knew this. He had in prayer about our needs. just completed the building of the temple in Jerusalem. He wasn't going to throw the doors open to the public without first praying intensely to God. To do this, he knelt down before God in the sight of his people. It was an act of total submission and subservience to the higher authority and sovereignty of almighty God. He repeatedly introduced himself to God as "thy servant". He at once began praising God for His faithfulness to his father, David, and the people of Israel. He then prayed that God should fulfill all that He had promised David, hear his cry, prayer and supplication. He pleaded with God to answer all the prayers he and the people of Israel would make in the temple from then onward, and that He would, as necessary, forgive all their sins. We must never forget that the almighty God is compassionate towards us. He loves and cares for us; and He is concerned about all the challenges we face in life, irrespective of how difficult they may seem. He desires the best for us as His children. He, therefore, wants us to pray and trust Him not only to hear, but grant our requests. However, we must ensure that we know Him as our Father, and that we are doing things that The Bible please Him always. For only then can He reach out to us when we appear before Him with our prayers.

Thought for the day: There is no limit to what God can do for those who call upon Him.

Perfect Love For All

-ROMANS 12:9-21

Key Verse:

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good" (Romans 12:9).
Paul the apostle, in our text, reiterated Christ's position, evidently describing genuine love as a cardinal virtue of a Christian life. He noted particularly that it must be sincere and devoid of hypocrisy. Aside from the fact that Christians must see themselves as a family, which will enable them to adequately appreciate true love, Paul pointed out that in living it out, they must equally honour other people, even more than themselves, and hate evil. Apostle Paul equally asserted that Christians must work hard in God's service with hope, patience and prayer. They should also be hospitable and generous, forbearing insult, sympathising with other people, living in unity with others and avoiding retaliation, no matter how they may have been hurt. The pertinent question is: how many of us, who claim to be Christians, actually live out these virtues? Do we really see ourselves as a family in the Household of Faith, bearing one another's burden? Today, quite a lot of people, even Christians, manifest hatred towards others. Some, because of position-seeking in the church, see others as rivals and enemies. Animosity and disunity now creep into their lives and the church. Some are never sympathetic to their fellow Christians' predicaments. Instead, they rejoice in their affliction and suffering. Repentance is the principal thing. God abhors unholy relationships. Hatred is evil, but love is comely. Being kind to your enemies may make them regret their actions. You do not need to hate your enemies. A Christian who hates The Bible others is not a true child of Christ. Evil deeds cannot defeat someone who is evil. So, Christians can only overcome evil powers when they do the right things.

Thought for the day: Love is the cardinal imperative which overcomes all odds.

Consequences Of Sin

-JEREMIAH 14:1-12

Key Verse:

"Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins" (Jeremiah 14:10).
Nothing else attracts God's wrath upon people more than sin. Yet, the people of Judah failed to realise this and wandered away from God. They not only worshipped false gods, they also contracted political alliances with Babylon and Egypt, and drifted far away from God. But He poured His wrath upon them. Rain ceased for a period and the people suffered. Their elites were not left out. Their servants could not even get drinking water, which caused a sad and frightened situation in the land. Farmers' crops could not yield fruits because of lack of rain. This made the land hard and unproductive. Animals that gave birth could not feed their babies. There was no grass for the animals to graze, neither was there water to drink. They could not see clearly as they were dying. The people of Judah cried to God, but He deliberately ignored their cry. Jeremiah then offered prayers on their behalf. First, he admitted they were guilty of many sins, as they turned away from God and failed to obey Him a number of times. He appealed to the Lord to show His love and pity upon them. But God said to Jeremiah, "Pray not for this people for their good". That is the reward of iniquity. No sinner will go unpunished. The calamity that will befall sinners at the end of time will be worse than what the people of Judah suffered. Today, many people deliberately offend God. They can tell lies, cheat during examination and in tax returns, secretly indulge in pornography, bear malice, etc. Some will even describe their sins as little, deluding themselves that God is "loving" and He would overlook little faults, lapses and indiscretions. They fail to realise that sin, in every aspect, is sin, whether big or small and will be punished by God ultimately. The only remedy against sin is repentance and newness of life in Jesus Christ.

Thought for the day: Sin damns, deadens, destroys and depreciates its captives.

Reward Of Consecration

-2 KINGS 2:7-18"Key Verse:*"And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so" (2 Kings 2:10).*"
James Calvert, a missionary to Fiji Islands, which was noted for its cannibalism, consecrated himself to follow God through. When he and his fellow missionaries landed on the island, the captain of the ship, in an attempt to discourage them, tried to turn back. "You will die, the men with you will die, if you stay here," the captain cried. After a moment, Calvert, while being point-blank that they had crossed the Rubicon, replied, "We died before we came here". Calvert's ardent disposition toward God's calling aptly explained Elisha's unusual commitment of his service to God. Right from the outset, he refused to leave Elijah, wanting to be with him for as long a time as possible. Prior to that, he was a successful farmer. When Elijah cast his mantle upon him, Elisha, without hesitation, bade goodbye to his parents and followed Elijah. Many Christians, today, treasure their career and family engagement more than following Christ unreservedly. Some people even get tied down by tradition and religion of their parents. The unwavering disposition of Elisha towards God was outstanding. He never allowed anybody or anything to distract him. His focus was definite - he would continue to be Elijah's servant until the end. In our Christian journey, some people, even brethren, may try to distract us with a lot of worldly enticements, but our determination to serve God to the end will help us to overcome every temptation and enticement from the devil. Many Christians do not know that for them to make a headway in their heavenly journey, they need total consecration, a single-minded devotion to the high calling of the Almighty. That is why you need purity of heart. If you want to be spiritually strong, you have to enter into a permanent consecration with God. Consecration makes the spiritually weak strong.*Thought for the day: *The cornerstone of a steadfast life lies in uncommon consecration to God.

Be A Better Builder-

2 CHRONICLES 4:1-8"Key Verse:*"He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in" (2 Chronicles 4:6).*"
Not many people have the privilege to build for God. Some yearn for it, but they have lost out of His favour. Yet, some who have the special privilege do not build according to pattern. To this, Marvin Ashton advised: "Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart, one who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them." Solomon, the son of David, had a privilege to build a temple for God, a favour his father never had. However, the temple, in a way, violated some of God's specific commandments. For instance, the bulls, calves and oxen were the usual images, which the Canaanite used to worship their fertility god, Baal. Some Bible scholars, who reviewed the structure, condemned Solomon for the use of the images, pointing out that the Scripture expressly condemned it: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth" (Exodus 20:4). Apparently, in the building of the temple, Solomon allowed some exuberance which God seemingly winked at. Thus, the glory that came down at the dedication of the temple. This is a pointer to many of us, who try to have true fellowship with God. We should be careful of what we bring into the service of the Lord to avoid offering strange fire on His altar. One cannot offer proud "sacrifices" and expect Him to accept it. He seeks those who come to Him in humility, ready to sacrifice their pride and lay before Him humble and contrite hearts. As New Testament believers, we must worship God without additives and encumbrances. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth.*Thought for the day: *The wise builds according to the divine pattern
