So far we commend the Lagos state govt on the rehabilitation of the market, but times have changed. Upon arrival at the store you will notice its now a ghost Mall. Hardly do u see customers patronizing the market, its mostly filled with Retailers.

The problem; the world at large and even Nigeria have become more accustomed to buying via eCommerce stores like KONGA and AMAZON etc.
The Solution; that structure is wasting the best use is to turn it into Office Space but then again most Nigerians still have the employment mentality hence the utmost solution is to turn it into an ''Effective'' tertiary institution as our country continues to grow in size as we will be the 3rd largest in world by the year 2050 with an estimated population surpassing the USA it would be a good investment in educating this populace.

What do you think?

The cost of rent or buying is high for a small business owner or a beginner coupled with service charges etc, added to cost of starting up, it will take awhile to break even or someone goes bankrupt.

Rent is exorbitant to the common man, what do you expect?

Most things sold there like wears, can be gotten cheaper on the stalls near the rail.

Apart from the valid argument about the cost of rent there, I believe there's need to have a central attraction there just like Shoprite did for all the shopping malls it occupies.

Also people need to change their orientation about a dirty chaotic "international" market having cheaper goods than a clean and well planned and ventilated shopping mall.

l told several people several years ago that building such ultra modern market in that location where u also have an alternative market that sells cheaper goods, was dead on arrival
I also said the same thing about the Arena ultra modern shopping complex that was sighted at Army Barrack close to Oshodi Market.
Most of the shops in both Tejuosho Market n the Arena have either close down due to low patronage or the owners are desperately looking for new owners.
The owners of various shops at the Arena n Tejuosho market are still at loss of how to recover their money back since sales are not coming forth.

The lagos state govt just wasted billions of tax payers money to build a non profitable enterprise. They won't let their private businesses to waste like that.

A big waste, why won't it be....when one person will buy up 20shops and decides how much to sell it. When a shop as small as a toilet rooms goes for millions of naira.
When those men and market women will sell one shop to ten people. When the whole shop alocation is not straight forward and shady.
Many hv been duped, lied to and exploited......others have learnt from it.
A typical igbo boy in yaba doesnt need such to do his business....yet opposite it,boys keep on selling their wares and making millions.
Whoever initiated it targeted the yaba boys, but its a failed venture for now.

Why is it that all those shopping plaza beside it are all filled up,even no vacant shops?
I only pity those girls ansd boys that stand there everyday dancing and sharing fliers.

The endtime shoping complex won't be a waste if the builders come together and reduce the endtime rentage to afordable cost
Then the entime complex will be ***booooom

Thanks for bringing up this topic.
Ecommerce have got nothing to do with the challenge that market is facing.
Fashola has always made wrong assessment in terms of these shopping malls, just like the nonsense he did with Suru-Alaba market. You don't build a storey building of lock-up stores (with its price in high heavens) in a market that is suppose to be for foodstuff and fresh commodities.

Can't type long epistle now. My point is that market would have retained its 'glory' if it was designed as an open market.
