The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sympathised with President Muhammadu Buhari and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over their inability to accept, with equanimity, constructive criticisms of their administration.

In a statement on Saturday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said it was unfortunate that the APC and its leaders, who gleefully and unjustifiably poured invectives on former President Goodluck Jonathan in the guise of playing the role of an opposition party, would now not want to condone criticisms.

“Unlike the APC that denigrated the office and person of former President Jonathan by wrongly depicting him as ‘clueless and incompetent’, the PDP remains the most decent, mature and constructive opposition party in our democracy and we have evidenced great respect for the person and exalted office of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“During the Goodluck Jonathan presidency, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, while in the saddle as interim Deputy National Secretary of the APC, in a post on his twitter page, described President Jonathan as ‘lazy, docile, incompetent, clueless, hopeless and useless leader.’ Other APC leaders made raining abuses on Jonathan a past time.

“The PDP is a very responsible opposition party; our leaders are mature; and we have demonstrated so in our critique of the President’s responses during the maiden Presidential Media Chat. We have reviewed President Buhari’s performance and concluded that it was uninspiring

“The entire world listened to President Buhari during the chat and went away with different impressions. We did and came up with the theme of our initial reaction that portrayed him very appropriately as a tyrant. And for purpose of clarity, a tyrant is a ruler who has complete power over a country and who uses the power in a cruel and unfair way, which was why we recommended the suspension of the operation of the constitution so he can rule for the next four years as a maximum ruler.

PDPBuhari“In its reaction, his party National Chairman, John Oyegun magisterially and dictatorially warned that ‘we (APC) may not condone such anymore.’ Our position in the PDP is that we are in trouble as a nation. All we hear from the APC regarding our freedom is ‘we won’t tolerate’, ‘we won’t condone.’ Are these words used by democrats or tyrants?

“So, the PDP too is being warned and coerced on what to say as opposition party. The PDP must be commended for the civil, responsible, mature, issue-based opposition it has played. The nation knows how the APC rained insults on former President Jonathan and that the PDP, during that time, never used words like ‘it would not condone…’

“Some have even criticised the PDP style of opposition as being too civil considering the tyranny we are facing. That is why Chief John Oyegun could term a dictionary word-‘tyrant’- as insulting. Nigerians do not need the PDP or anyone else to make them decide if President Buhari’s APC government fits the definition of a tyrant.

“The real trait of the President was unraveled during the media chat. He has repeatedly shown his scorn for the Legislature, an independent arm of government while sanctioning security agencies’ disrespect for court orders and the impunity of continuous incarceration of people who have been granted bails by the courts.

“Also from his responses, the President has even pronounced a guilty verdict on Col Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu of Radio Biafra even before the hearings by the courts. Sadly, even the international community has noted this brazen scorn and disdain for the independence of the judiciary.

“Furthermore, how do we describe a President who openly denigrated an entire race as he did in the media chat when he suggested that the Igbos were insatiable with the appointments his government has so far given to them? Indeed, the timing and the tenor of the President’s comment, given the security and political situation in the land, remain worrisome, especially at a time a nerve-soothing statement from the father of the nation could have reassured the agitators of the need for peace and unity in the nation.

“Besides, it is sad and embarrassing that President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade has now been reduced to a war between the APC and the PDP as declared by the Office of his spokespersons. Since they have confirmed that this is what the anti-corruption crusade is all about, the APC is obviously seeking to destroy the PDP so that it can push through Buhari’s second tenure in 2019 without opposition from the PDP.

“This has also confirmed our concern that this is the reason the Federal Government is persecuting, and not prosecuting, Col. Sambo Dasuki. The APC and its leaders fear that Dasuki, given his vast political and security network, may be harbouring a presidential ambition, more so that the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the north.

“The PDP is conversant with the sinister plan by the APC-led Federal Government to completely decimate our party by raking up all manner of allegations of corruption against the Goodluck Jonathan administration and leaders of the PDP with a view to taking them to court on orchestrated charges.

“Finally we are aware that President Buhari has directed security agencies to be more vicious in dealing with our members and has continued to subtly coerce the Judiciary to convict those being charged to court. But what gives us joy is that President Buhari is not God and we will not worship him.

The vast Majority of Nigerians are fully behind President Buhari

He is God sent and exactly what Nigeria needs at this period.

Buhari is a breath of fresh AIR. The IPOB Youths and friends are no longer robbing and looting Nigeria blind

Under GEJ, IPOB illiterates that did not finish secondary school turned to overnight millionaires simply because they got concessions to ship petroleum products.

Those days are GONE- IPOB Youths, get used to it.

God bless Buhari!

honestly this is a time for sober reflection. A govt that talked down on the whole Igbo race on national TV after telling them earlier they were part of the 5 percent that wont benefit from his govt. Yet these are the most industrious tribe in nigeria whose expertise in trade is similar to chinese. if properly harnessed, the igbo race can contribute significantly to our technological advancement. To make the matter worse, the ruling party is now issuing warning to opposition parties they wont tolerate further criticism of the govt. The people usually make the maximum ruler that comes back to haunt them through their silence. the youth should challenge this apc govt....if not for anything but for opposition to thrive. call me a wailer.

who are the vast majority? do you mean learned mind like mine that have toured the world. you guys have suffered so bad that you dont know when you are about to be buried after digging your grave with your hand.

learn from the white, even if you hate your fellow country men, always insist as citizen that rule of law as enshrined in the constitution is followed to the latter no matter how much we disagree with other.

a politician is never to be entrusted with absolute power this brings unimaginable chaos, Hitlar is an example, be warned all you sycophant before you breed a monster.

Look at thieves still talking. No shame! No remorse!!! It's business as usual to them. I smell malice in Metuh's statement. He is not sounding like an opposition spokesman rather he is sounding a maliciius and frustrated school boy. Metuh is becoming another Biafra spine person in disguise.

Has Buhari ever asked anyone to worship him? All he was asking for was accountability. Account for how you spent public money! Instead of giving Nigerians straightforward answers; they have been diving, dodging and using unpleasant tactics to get back at Buhari.

First, I can't recall anyone, or Baba himself, telling anyone he is god.

Secondly, I can't recall Baba asking anyone to worship him.

Thirdly, I can recall PDP stalwarts referring to PEJ as Jesus.

Fourthly, I can recall PDP stalwarts referring to GEJ as Jesus.

Nigerians wouldn't object for a moment if PDP decided to worship Jo or Peshi since they are already seen as gods in the party- matter of fact, we encourage them to. Being the scum of the earth, there is hardly any depth to which PDP can sink in their shithole.

What Baba desires is the goodwill and support of conscientious and well meaning Nigerians and he keeps getting more and more of that with every passing day and with every idiotic statement PDP makes, just like this one.

Well, well, let Olisa Metuh continue in his vituperations. What is clear is that you don't treat a monster with kid gloves. The fear of PDP is really about the monster called corruption. The PDP would prefer a situation where Dasuki is left the hook to prevent exposing them further. By the way, all these hue and cry about selective ''persecution'' is bullshit. If I may ask '' was APC the ruling party before now? If we are to investigate wrong doing at Federal level like this arms deal, who should be investigated? APC ministers abi? Please face the music if you are involved and leave PMB alone!

The politics of name calling and denigrating the office of the president started with APC and I don't see it coming to an end anytime soon.

I've quietly followed this APC vs PDP thing, and I've come to the conclusion that people have the spirit of hate, which is caused by blinded partisanship, rather than a desire to move Nigeria forward.
It is an irony that a party which excellently insulted a sitting president, and even went to the level of gathering people to pelt stones at the president cannot stand the heat of their man being insulted.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

We have to stop this idea of supporting things based on party stand. We have to insist on the rule of law. APC started the idea of insulting presidents, now it has backfired. Buhari has started the idea of disobeying court orders, watch how it would back fire

The most painful part is the part of saying PDP destroyed. Is PDP a person. PDP members many of whom are now APC members destroyed Nigeria. Most people in PDP now, were not even in PDP in those 16years. It's funny how politicians are successfully deceiving Nigerians.

Rubbish from a party that have been playing god all this while.
Buhari never expected your obeisance, he rather asked you to be careful of your actions not to make him look evil when your evil deeds are re-visited.

How. Did he talk down on the Igbo race?

How did the Igbo race talk down on him, why has the Igbo race before during and after the election seem to Hate or dislike him? He wins and you want to take up all the positions in his government

Instead of us igbos to protest against our own governors, our own leaders we carry buhari matter for our head, but we voted sam egwu, ta orji, orji uzor Kalu, chimaroke etc to power we love anyim, we see no wrong in the fact that we've had some of the worst leadership in the south east since Nigerias return to democracy

We want an igbo man to rule nigeria but NONE of us voted for Chekwas OKorie, afterall he contested for presidency! When Roachas was in PDP all eastern delegates voted for yaradua, when ekwueme contested against obasanjo, all eastern delegates voted for obasanjo, ojukwu contested in 2007 against yaradua/jonathan with Maurice iwu as Inec chairman we voted for yaradua instead!

Our roads are the worst, even when jonathan wanted to share money he didn't even deem it fit to give an igbo man National security adviser to share money! Now we are shouting up and down how won't he ask " what do the igbos want"?

Buhari is not God, he is just a man and he has every right and good reasons to have a deep resentment for the Igbos because of the unbelievable level of animosity Igbos openly had for him before and even after the election. But then, just like he said in his 5% speech, he is bound by the constitution to be the president of all Nigerians, so development will definitely get to every region. As a matter of fact, one of his first orders just weeks after assuming leadership was for the Owerri airport to be upgraded to an international cargo airport.

Now it is left to you and other buhari-hating Igbos to keep hating the man because one false oracle keeps ringing it in your head that buhari is responsible for all the problems of Igbos, I think he's already used to it and has learnt to ignore this senseless hate and accusations which even started before power was handed over to him. As a matter of fact, it is the daily renewed irrational and childish hate Igbos like yourself keep pouring out on him that may get into his brain and push him to damn the constitution and completely omit the SE from his developmental maps. You can keep hating him as if he's the one that marginalised the SE since the past 16 years; afterall, thats what a lot of 'enlightened' Igbos like yourself believe courtesy Nnamdi kanu and Co, that a Buhari who took over government 7months ago and who hasnt even signed a single developmental contract is responsible for marginalisation of Igboland, keep hating and let's see how far this hate benefits your life.
