Pep is one of the last pieces in the jigsaw.

He is the man that can build a team capable of challenging Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in terms of competing for European honours.

It didn’t take that long for City to dominate the Premier League and win domestic trophies. That was the ‘easy’ part.

We are already, arguably, the most complete side in the Premier League and capable of challenging year after year. Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea fans cannot comfortably say that.

What we are not capable of, however, is building a club that can challenge the elite for European honours.

A club that is genuinely feared by the other European heavyweights. That isn’t something throwing a chequebook at it can solve.
