Hello all,

I am need of advise here, just got a Toyota Sienna 2004 model, but I fathomed that it is extremely overheating.
At first the Temperature meter wasn't working so I scanned it and got a error saying the Cooling System wasn't working, after checking the mechanic discovered that the cursor was really bad,we changed it and the meter started working.

After driving it for a while the reading on the meter went after half and to the red line...

Things I noticed was, upon starting the car the fans don't roll, not until the AC is put on.
Once am in traffic the temperature goes up again.
The Check Engine symbol was showing statically, but after putting the cursor is was now blinking all through.

A mechanic is asking me to remove the Thermostat and I have read here that it is not ok to remove.

Please advise me...

your fan isnt suppose to come on immediately your engine is started till it gets to a certain temperature.
As for the Check engine light blinking, its a sign of a misfire.
The check engine light is suppose to be off and not illuminated.

run away from that mechanic, if you're in Abuja contact Mike 07034581213,
if your'e in Lagos contact Gazzuzz

check the fan speed and also try to wash off all clogged dirt on your radiator and condenser.

Yes if am caught up in holdup as this was what happened to me yesterday. Instead of the AC to be cooling,it was just blowing out air,den after heat.

OK I would do that today in few hours, cause I noticed red mud soil color on the engine side. So maybe the radiator is blocked, cause there is no leakages of water from hoses.

Thanks

Install a new thermostat & revert the fan to the original settings. Ensure you use recommended coolant. If overheating persists, there's a possibility your water pump is faulty. Assessing the water pump is a tedious job that requires the removal of the timing belt & can only be done by a professional mechanic. There's no reason to change your current radiator except it's faulty.

Continuous use of that vehicle in its current state can damage your engine & result in an expensive fix. A stitch in time saves nine.

All the crude method of overheating suppression which includes removing thermostat ,installing double cell radiator ,running of fan direct has way of reducing your engine life span on the long run apart from high fuel consumption your car will be experiencing while in perpetual open loop condition .
Don't waste your hard earned money on double cell ,instead look for the root of the overheating .
And don't attempt to install any thermostat or install the fan correctly until u have fix the overheating issue so as not to aggravate the overheating issue the more.
The first procedure to diagnosis overheating issue is to look for a reputable workshop to run a cooling system pressure test. this equipment will check the integrity of the cooling system for any issue that can lead to overheating ranging from any internal to external leak .
contact autologic @ 08061166316 to diagnose and fix this issue .they have the right equipment.

If the thermostat is removed, please replace it and I advice you get a double cell radiator. Use hot steam and blow your condenser and fan.
I don't recommend removing thermostat anyway but most people that do it, don't even know they now have to connect the fan directly. But like I said, I don't recommend it but if you must drive the car without thermostat then connect the fan directly so that once you start the car, the fan kicks in but again two things will happen. You will reduce the efficiency of the engine and also reduce the fuel economy.

Thank you all for your contribution on this thread, GBU y'all.
By and large the Overheating has stopped ,after a great help from HONMUSA who followed me up on what to do, he has a special kit that check for source of Overheating in any car, it was after we used the kit that the over heating/reduction on water in radiator stopped completely and i have replaced the thermostat in the car....God Bless You @honmusa.
He is not all after money, but very professional in dealing with customers and also vehicle, we need more of them in this country.

Thanks

u have said nothing. We learn in this forum. What was the cause of the overheating. Telling us that there is a special kit that checks for overheating in any car is balderdash. Anyway, thanks honmusa for the help. What was the cause of the overheating?

So what was the cause of the problem?....and what was done to solve it? Hmmm.... I thought we were here to share car issues and learn how to overcome them.

@honmusa and jazzyluv28 you guys should inform us what the problem was, and how it was solved so we can learn from it. The equipment used in testing got a name too so please share.

Or the post is meant to be PR stunt for honmusa

you replaced the abs pump, and the above happened? You need another mechanic.

the root of the overheating issue is that the car is having a hidden leak and the most leak on cooling system can be very hard to locate when the car is working @ high temperature because the leaking water tends to evaporate .
The only way to diagnose is to simulate the condition at low temperature so that u can clearly see coolant actually coming out .
A cooling system pressure tester was used for this simulation ,also thermostat was replaced and the continously running radiator fan was reconnected to run on the default mode so that it can be controlled by the fan ECU. End of Overheating !!!!
