Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday signed six agreements to enhance bilateral relations between them.

The signing of the agreements on trade, finance and judicial matters, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, was witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and the UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Obaid Attayar signed the Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement, while the Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Okechukwu Enelamah signed the Agreement on Trade Promotion and Protection with the UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs.

The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and his counterpart in the UAE, Sultan Bin Saeed Albadi signed the Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters, and Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal and Commercial Matters, which includes the recovery and repatriation of stolen wealth.

At a reception after the signing of the agreements, President Buhari reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption and restoring Nigeria’s dignity in the comity of nations.

He also urged all Islamic countries to support the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and denounce the atrocities of Boko Haram as un-Islamic and against the teachings of the Holy Prophet.

In his remarks, Crown Prince Zayed Al Nahyan said the relationship between Nigeria and the UAE will be strengthened by President Buhari’s visit and the signing of the agreements.

Expecting UAE to return monies put in their country by Nigerian Muslims is like asking them to become Christians, it's not going to happen.

Nigeria and UAE just signed an agreement that includes recovery of stolen assets and you are saying it's not going to happen. You wailers better wake up, all thanks to the anti-corruption effort of PMB, dubai is no longer a safe haven for looters from Nigeria. Henceforth, if you steal from Nigeria and invest in properties in dubai, you will be arrested, extradited and the loots recovered and returned to Nigeria.

What do you know about UAE?. They are now a petrochemicals powerhouse. They have also invested wisely in tourism. Tax free trade makes billions move within their economy every year . UAE and Saudi Arabia did not have clueless governments like we have in Nigeria . The agreement says it all because it is one sided. Stolen money is going to come from UAE back to Nigeria . No UAE national stole money from his Emirate to keep in Nigeria.
That is the level at which your country descended to another the clueless one

Why is everything about Buhari full of mistakes. Did anyone notice the spelling of recovery?
I just wonder how that can be a signed legal document.
Those working with him are just like him.

75% of UAE revenue is derived from tourism, real estate & hospitality industry and they care next to nothing how you make your money, all they are after is the sustainable growth of their industries with foreign income which practically sustains their economy. That your nationals are stealing your public money is not their headache but yours.
Although very commendable if true, but fund repatriation is not in their overall best interest.

UAE has indigenously owned but foreign managed funds looking for investible assets and countries. Nigeria could be a target for those funds.
