Nigeria Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo have clear the doubt about their electoral campaign of N5,000 Cash Transfer, the scheme is well thought out and will cater for thousands of unemployed youths.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television’s, at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, Professor Osinbajo stressed that the cash transfer promised during the campaign of the All Progressives Congress was meant for the poorest in the society and not for the unemployed people, as popularly believed.

According to him;

“There is a bit of misrepresentation of what it is.

“Some people have suggested that we are giving 5,000 Naira to unemployed young people. No!

“What we are doing for young people, graduates and the unemployed is the teachers’ scheme as well as the vocational training,” the Vice President explained.

He further stated that, government was looking at other aspects of social investments that would tackle the youth employment situation in Nigeria.

“Youth employment is very crucial, especially because we know now… with all of the percentages of out of school graduates and undergraduates who have been out of school for a while and have no jobs.

“We think that for graduate employment, a direct creation of jobs and the ‘Teach Nigeria’ scheme that will employ 500,000 teachers, will address some of that concern,” he said.

Professor Osinbajo, while addressing the challenges of those who were not graduates. He said;

“We are looking at investing in that also substantially and how we intend to do that is by this youth employment scheme that will involve a lot of training in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, business methods and all of that”.

When some of those promises were made, no one foresaw what is happening currently to oil prices and the global markets.

APC should be bold enough to come out and tell Nigerians that due to the current realities on ground, it would be virtually impossible to carry on with that policy. When things start looking up in terms of revenue, it would be reconsidered.

This is not the time to finance socialist programs (even Saudi has been cutting subsidies due do the sharp decline in oil revenues), this is the time to use what little resources you have at your disposal deployed to fixing critical infrastructure and creating jobs/promoting entrepreneurship.

The N5000 program isn't feasible for now.

I wish that you will just keep quiet.

How much was oil before the election?

Did Okonjo Iweala not warn Nigeria of hardship ahead?

Did the international community not predict further fall in oil price?

Did some Nigerians expecially those in support of the pdp not laugh at the N5k tipend thing? Did they not say that it was not feasible?

Even with the price of dollar then, was it a possibility?

Was your apc not aware that gej and pdp 'destroyed' the economy then?

Did your apc not know that gej and pdp 'stole' every single penny in the treasury?

Did your apc not know (even with a prof) the difference btween the unemployed and the poorest?

Did they not know that a person can employed but still poor?

Unemployment and poverty which one is a mojor issue in Nigeria?
You know, sometimes when people quote me, before responding I take a moment to view their profile. Going through your profile, seeing your topics, I imagine what a futile exercise it would be trying to make you understand that 1 plus 1 equals 2.

Wish you the best. wink

if they couldn't predict, then they have no business ruling a country. They rode on lies to power meaning their foundation is wrong. Ironically,Nigerians are the ones paying for it. We have been scammed.

The question is how will they determine those that are the poorest? It's so sad that we are allowing cheap talk to drive our economy. There's a need to stop making plans and start making these work effectively. You can't keep planning for the rest of your stay in office.

I still think it is. What should be of more concern is what statistics or measure would be used to determine who qualifies for the scheme.

They can look inward to generate money.. It mustn't be oil alone. This idea of taxing 50naira for every transaction in our bank account can generate a lot of money. We keep making excuses for our leaders meanwhile they are not willing to cut down their ostentatious life style. Must it be the common man alone that will making the sacrifice while the budget of the leaders upstairs keep increasing irrespective of dwindling oil prices? I don't care if they strike out unemployed youth, but they just have to do something for the poor.

This Govt promised Nigerians 5K/month, 3Mjobs, free meal & Education, social welfare for the old etc instead, they're stealing our N50s, brought mass sack, inflation, civil unrest etc.

Don't be surprised that Almajiris will make up about 80%+ of the so called "poorest". Stealing southerners' money from the bank to feed the northerners.

If the Govt can't make us richer, it shouldn't make Nigerians poorer.

Well the poorest and the most disadvantaged are seen at the north as I hear, so you now know how they will determine the poorrst.
