Nigeria has been ranked the 57th best country in the world according to the inaugural “Best Countries” ranking.

The inaugural ranking was compiled by U.S. News & World Report, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and global brand consultants BAV Consulting.

The report ranks the 60 best countries in the world by considering 75 factors such as sustainability, adventure, cultural influence, entrepreneurship and economic influence.

Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the chairman and editor-in-chief of U.S. News said the ranking would help citizens and business leaders to have a better knowledge of the competitive business world.

“Globalization has made the world a competitive place for business, influence and the quality of life. Just as we have done with universities, hospitals and other institutions, our Best Countries portal will be a global homepage for stories and data to help citizens, business leaders and governments evaluate performance in a rapidly changing world.”

The countries that made the top ten ranking are:

Germany
Canada
United Kingdom
United States
Sweden
Australia
Japan
France
Netherlands
Denmark
The highest ranked country in Africa is South Africa in 31 position followed by Morocco in 35, Egypt in 39, Tunisia in 47, Nigeria in 57 and Algeria rounding off the ranking at 60.

Nigeria’s GDP was listed as $522 billion and the GDP per capita at $6,031.

Nigeria ranked very low under the category of Citizenship with the country receiving a score of zero in the trustworthy sub-category. Nigeria however performed well in the “Open For Business” category due to cheap manufacturing cost although the country was scored a woeful 10 over ten in the corruption sub-category.

If not for corruption Nigeria shouldn't have been so low- even behind a recently war torn egypt. By the end of buhari's tenure we should be the first in Africa. Wait a minute, where is our neighbour ghana- Oh! I forgot, supplementary list would soon be out.

Considering the ''Giant of Africa" status this aint a Good Result...

But since we are just getting our feet back into GOOD LEADERSHIP its a improvement.

But 10/10 in corruption with all our efforts shocked undecided

US news and World report huh?

Well, I trust their academic rankings and some others BUT THIS IS NONSENSE.

Based on what exactly?

Of course, Nigeria is corrupt but please tell me any country that lacks it. Even the U.S. Should score 10/10 in corruption..... Hey, I'm a scholar at one of their institutions but this is the truth.

Anyway, The U.S are still the world power with U.K. As their strongest ally but Corruption is deepseated in the U.S. in a manner the general public or eyes of the world cannot detect. #fact

Unfortunately, this means "Being called a Nigerian is tantamount to saying such a person is not worthy of Trust and responsibilty"

This is sad..... But a Nigerian heads the American Board of Neurological specialists.

I believe with time, such nonsense will stop. AS NIGERIANS, WE GOT A "JOB" TO DO. That's why we must do well and give our best to excel at anything we do..... Our nation's prestige counts on it.

What's your point Sir? Only 58 countries? But Algeria ranked as 60.

And the article says "The best 60 countries" meaning nations outside the best 60 were equally evaluated and ranked.

Sir, I'm afraid it's not 57 out of 60 BUT 57 out of over 200 countries.

The article says "the 60 best countries in the world" meaning nations outside the best 60 were also ranked.
