The N10 billion padding reported to be discovered in the education budget meant for the Universal basic Education Commission has been described as a typographical error from the office of the National Planning and Budget.

Chairman of Senate Committee on Higher Education, Binta Masi Garba, made this disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja after the commissioning of Federal University, Lafia’s connection to Nigerian Research and Education Network, NgREN, in inter-conference programme in National Universities Commission, NUC.

She stressed that the issue was not with the ministry of education and that it had been resolved by the house and the senate and would be amended in the budget.

According to Garba, “For us to find ourselves out of where we found ourselves in Nigeria, education is the bedrock of development and if education is not given the rightful footing in budgeting then definitely we will have a problem.”

It would be recalled that the Senate Committee on Education last week at the 2016 budget defence noted that it uncovered about N10 Billion hidden in the budget of parastatals by the Federal Ministry of Education.

A close look at the Budget shows that N10Billion was hidden in the Education budget.
When the Senate invited the Minister for Education to explain why N10Billion was hidden somewhere in the Education column, she could not explain it.
The Chairman of the senate Committee on Higher Education, in order to give the minister a soft landing, said in his press conference that the N10Billion secretly hidden in the Education budget was a typographical error.
Hmmmm
I pray that more typographical errors shall be found in the budget.
So if that typographical error was not discovered, who knows how that 'yam' would have been shared

The truth is, the committee members will be given kick backs to allow the silly budget pass. It has been one of their major source of making money
