As the Nigerian Naira struggles with the Zimbabwean dollar for parity three pictures appears to define what happened to the Naira in the last 9 months .

Tragically even Nairaland derives its name from this currency we strive daily to earn.

History will not be kind to those who had the power to speak and save Naira but kept quiet and refused to do so......

May God Help us to help ourselves IJN

So sad, common sense is no longer common. Even those who leave in the village now think of $ every minutes. Their earnings are in Nairas but they think about $ more than they think about their lives.

When you think the world ends in your village its a problem!

Today the world is a global village thus depreciation affects everyone

For instance

The price of Bread a staple food in many homes is up 5 % and going even the smallest energy bulb is up by #100

Stop being foolish and accept the reality that the President needs to do something urgently

All these grammars are not enough to help your dead brain. Because the world is a global village means we should continue to support your desire for anything foreign. This is a government with common sense. With our current level of foreign reserve, and the price of oil going down every minute you don't need to be an economist to know that there is need for urgent step to discourage importation of less important goods.

The current step by the government is to send a signal to people of your type to look inward and stop thinking that untill you put on italian shoes your life is incomplete.

Import substitution policies do not work. Protectionism has failed to industrialise the country.

How do you discourage imports by keeping the naira artificially cheap? Is Buhari not subsidising Imports?

A devaluation of the naira will make imports more expensive compelling people to look for cheaper local alternatives

Buhari is a man of integrity but that does not make him a world class chef or pilot. Neither does it make him an economist.

I have written off the economy since July or probably earlier. Soludo, Sanusi and Pat Utomi have all condemned his policies

But to continue wasting our hard earned foreign reserve on avoidable travels outside Nigeria that won't add a dime to our economy.

Some things I agree with, most I don't.

First, this is certainly not a common sense government.
They first ever budget betrayed that common sense pretenses.

A common sense government, in its first ever budget, would not budget N3.6b for importef BMW luxury cars just to be able to serve the Nigerian people. Their personal cars , an official Peugeot or an Innoson car or keep would have easily sufficed.

A common sense government would not budget N49b for propaganda while it budgets N29b for agriculture that employs about 30 million people, and can potentially create additional 30 million more jobs.

Going to borrow N2 trillion in foreign currency ( in the face if a depreciating local currency undecided) to fund a budget that is deliberately bloated by as much as 25% is not the sign of common sense.

This government's budget proposal shows that they do not have, or have deliberately chosen not to employ common sense in the administration of the Nigerian economy.

So, please correct yourself.
