Thanks for the prompt reply. Like I earlier stated, I already applied for the B1/B2 visa and fixed an interview date before my admission came through. And would you rather advice I wait till around June ending or early July before applying for the F-1 visa? so as to avoid the interview been close to the time of previous denial since my school resumes on the 22nd of August 2016. abujaniv: |

OTUNBACODED: Hello OTUNBACODED, It is your decision. We recommend that you are honest and upfront, regardless of which date you select. The officer will be able to see the notes from the B1 interview and it is best to be clear and honest about your purpose of travel and why you have applied for two different classes of visa so close together. It is your responsibility to prove to the officer that you are a qualified and credible student and honesty is always the best policy. Regards, Student Visa Team |

Dear visa officer, These are my questions; 1. for F2 what will be the proof of sevis payment for interview purpose?, since only the f1 paid sevis and f2 sevis payment is exempted. 2. can i get a link for documents required for f2 interview? 3. is there any implication for spouse and children not attending same f2 interview at once, but seperately ( the children are all under 10 years and not available now due to school schedule) |
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by abujaniv: 11:39am On Apr 08, 2016 |
rolaesh: Hello rolaesh, Please bring a copy of the F1 SEVIS fee receipt as we are able to look up the payment information at the time of the interview. The same documents are required for the F2, the fee receipt and the I-20. There are no repercussions for separate interviews, but it is best to do the F2 interview either at the same time or after the F1 so that the officer knows that the F1 has been granted. Regards, Student Visa Team |

abujaniv: Thanks for your prompt response. I had an issue with F2, i-20 I sent through USPS Express mail,it has not been delivered, despite tracking it down to Nigeria, all effort to locate it has not yielded, and that has forced my spouse to reschedule her interview from 11th to 14th April but the issue still persist. I have scan the i-20 to her before sending the hard copy, can she attend interview with scanned i-20? Can i-20 duplicate be certified for the purpose of Visa interview and by whom? if we reschedule the interview for second time, to sort the issue out, will i need to pay for another interview appointment fee? |
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by abujaniv: 7:29am On Apr 12, 2016 |
rolaesh: Hello rolaesh, She will need the original to travel and the officer may put her case on hold until she has the original, but you can keep the appointment and explain the situation during the interview. Regards, Student Visa Team |

Is there any procedure for obtaining interview transcripts or reason for refusal post interview? Also does a separate letter addressed directly to the consulate from an applicant's school explaining his scholarship and qualifications help in any way? |
Re: U.S. Student Visa (F1, M1, & J1) Forum - We're Listening by abujaniv: 7:18am On Apr 18, 2016 |
mcselasie: Hello mcselasie, There is no transcript available for review. A letter will not be possible; however, it behooves you to speak clearly about any funding from the university in the form of a scholarship, grant or assistantship during the interview. You are always welcome to apply again. Regards, Student Visa Team |

Hello Dear AbujaNIV, Am F1 and my spouse has obtained F2 visa but still in Nigeria. These are my questions 1. Am presently in U.S studying and cannot attend interview with the children ( They are below 10 years), but my wife will, do they need a written consent from me? Should it be notarized? 2. Will it be necessary for them to be physically present, since they are under 10, if not what will be the procedure? |

Good day AbujaNIV, I recently obtained a Canadian Immigrant Visa (for Permanent Residence) via the FSWP. During the long processing, I applied to schools in the U.S. for my masters. I have received admission from all the schools, and right now I have the i20 of one of them. I have paid the SEVIS fee and I have received the receipt. My masters program is a one year program and as a STEM course, I have OPT possibility. I envision I will be done with my program and OPT in a Maximum of two years which would allow me to return to Canada and fulfil my residency requirement of two out of five years. Now, I am currently in Nigeria. I intend to enter Canada in June, obtain my PR card, and then apply for a US student visa from Toronto. I understand I'm likely to receive a multi entry visa valid for ten years. My second option is to apply now here in Nigeria for my US student visa. Pls which of the above options do you suggest I follow? 1 Like |

JohnCanada: Hello JohnCanada, You will have to decide ultimately what is best for you. The requirements for the student visa are to show that you are a credible and qualified student, that you can afford the tuition, fees and living arrangements during the course of the program and that you will return to your country once you have finished your degree. With that being said, your ties to Canada are getting stronger and it may be easier in the long run to apply from there since you will not have to renew the visa during your program as you might from Nigeria depending on your timing.
