Why Jonathan Lost Presidential Election – Former Deputy Senate President, Mantu by OnankpaBa(m): 2:38pm On Mar 31, 2016
A former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ibrahim Mantu has disclosed the reasons why former President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated at the 2015 Presidential election.
In an interview with Premium Times, the former lawmaker claimed that those who Jonathan worked with were responsible for his failure at the polls.

Mantu said, “Jonathan lost because he refused to work with people who know the game. Most of the people Jonathan worked with were mediocres and amateurs. At a point in time, he even left the party machinery and employed some consultants to work for him.”

Commenting on the role campaign groups played during the last Presidential election especially the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, Mantu said, “There are many of them. They came to Eagle Square and said they have 75 million signatures.

He said, “Where were the 75 million people when we were voting? Politics is a grassroots game. When you don’t use your structure at the grassroots, you will lose. How many people watch television? Those that have don’t have light. So, when you say you are using television to campaign, you are wasting your time. Campaign is at the grassroots level.”

Mantu admitted that the All Progressives Congress, APC, emerged victorious during the last general election because Nigerians were tied of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He said, “People were already tired of PDP. PDP was suffering from hangover, fatigue. Sixteen years in power uninterrupted is not easy in a country like Nigeria. Then, PDP became over drunk with power. We were staggering. We missed our road. We were no longer respecting the people. Virtually everywhere, APC votes came from PDP members who were angry with the party.”

The ex-Deputy Senate President however noted that the current government should be given more time before being asked to give account of its stay in power.

“You see it is too early to assess because as far as I am concerned you need to give government time. It has not even spent up to one year out of four years. You must give the government at least two years. You can be saying negative things about this government now. Initially, there is always pain in starting anything,” Mantu stated

There is no elaborate game, or crime that Jonathan committed. He lost because people were Simply tired of PDP. Even if he "Played the game" He would have still lost. I personally went to vote because i specifically wanted PDP out. No other reason. Truly.

what he said is the truth. I hope the gullible will now understand why politics is not won on a forum like Nairaland. It's the game of been a grassroots mobilizer.
for the senator, the same things happened to you in 2007 when the umbrella was buried by the broom in plateau central senatorial district.

GEJ lost the election cos he was not in control, that's the reason why people who liked him as a person voted him out as a president. You can't be president when your word doesn't count, you ask people to do something but they do something else instead and you can't do anything about it as president... Instead of being in control of events, you choose to ignore the havoc your crew and associates were wrecking on the economy just because you can't stop them... I think that's why he lost reelection

President Jonathan lost the elections for the following reasons;

1. He was incompetent.. There is no other way to explain this.

2. He failed to deliver on the Trust Nigerians bestowed on him in 2011 (myself included).. There is no question that the result of the Presidential elections of 2011 reflected the choice of Nigerians. The FRESH AIR campaign of 2011 was a resounding success. Jonathan got the votes of the North, East, West and South.. He won that election because Nigerians wanted him and put their hopes on him. He seemed to not appreciate the level of trust and responsibility that was put upon him. If Jonathan had delivered, all he had to do was sit inside Aso Rock sleeping and let his works campaign for him. He didnt need to cater to any Godfathers or Power Blocs.. All he had to do was deliver to the People and allow a free and fair election in 2015 and let the same people who put him in power return him again with a resounding and overwhelming victory.. But NO!! He surrounded himself with psychophants, Militants and praise-singers who shielded him from the truth for selfish interests.,

3. Security: Like seriously.. He failed woefully here. His praise singers can lie to him and tell him Chibok never happened, but can he deny the Mubi Polytechnic Massacre? The Madala Christmas day Bombing? The Kano Mosque bombing? The Nyanya Bus Park Bombing, e.t.c... Then as if Boko Haram's activities were not bad enough, the scandal of flying cash into South Africa on a Private jet to procure arms made him look even more clueless than previously thought.

4. The Economy: How he allowed Okonjo Iweala and Diezani remain in power for the duration of his tenure would forever remain a shock. Diezani lost 50 Billion from the NNPC account, got negotiated downwards to 20 Million and that money as of today is still unaccounted for. Okonjo kept using the rebasing of the Economy (which experts say is just an academic exercise) to deceive Nigerians into believing that all was well with our economy and that we were experiencing economic growth.. Fast forward to 2016, Oil Prices drop and all of a sudden Nigeria's economy is on the brink of total collapse. grin

5. Corruption: How did Stella Oduah not ever get tried? How did Farouk Lawan not ever get tried or jailed? How did Diezani not ever get probed, tried or sacked despite overwhelming evidence against her? Why did he grant a Federal Amnesty to Alamiesigha?

6. Patience Jonathan.. His failure to control his household (His wife) cost him his presidency.

7. Foreign Reserves.. What in Gods name did Jonathan do with all the Billions of dollars left behind by President Obasanjo and late President Yaradua? He not only depleted the reserves but went back to borrowing from the IMF and putting us back into indebtedness that Obasanjo had negotiated and paid off..

This is just a brief summary... The sins of Jonathan are too numerous to mention..

He lost it because he showed Nigerians he did not have what it takes to be President.

undecided
GEJ used 5 of those years to put the system in order and try an correct. Who disgarded 10s of thousands of ghost workers from the system? Which administration was making waves in mining and agriculture? Which administration brought in over 200 foreign invested companies?
His guidance made Nigeria the Giant of Africa, forget the campaign propaganda its not as easy to rule a country like Nigeria.

How many projects have we seen commissioned by the Super Minister or Rotten Ameachi they are just snaping pics with our old administration sweat.

We have not seen anything not even a solid plan because they focus too much on PDP.

People using GEJ to gain cheap popularity.
I cannot remember the last time I heard of the name Ibrahim Mantu even with the suppose political juggernaut that he says he is.

Politics in the educated south is different from politics in the uneducated North. People in the south are more likely to be influenced to vote by what they read (Nairaland, Social Media, Newspaper etc) than a Northerner.

I stand to be corrected
