Things You Must Know Before Traveling To Australia

Australia is one of the most beautiful countries and has visitors from all over the world. If you are one of the lucky travelers Australia, here are some tips you should definitely know.

It may look small, but looks can be deceiving. Australia is the 6th largest country in the world. You won’t be able to see everything you want in just a few days.

If you’re going to Australia as a tourist, you will need a visa. Except if you’re a citizen of New Zealand.

Australia is very strict about things you can bring into the country. You can’t bring food (fruits, vegetables, meat and eggs), plants, seeds and feathers. Of course, the laws also prevent you from bringing in drugs, weapons and fire alarms.

There are more kangaroos than people, but don’t expect to see them everywhere you go. It’s possible to spot them in the wild, away from the city. You can often find them in the suburbs or on a golf course. Kangaroo Island is one of the best places to see wildlife. Even though kangaroos and koalas don’t like all the city buzz, there some other Australian residents you’re very likely to see. I’m talking about lizards, bats, possums, snakes and plenty of spiders.

Aboriginal people are the oldest living culture in the world. They came to Australia 70 000 years ago. They have suffered a lot so if you see them, which is unlikely, show some respect.

Australia is very multicultural. Over 200 different languages and dialectes are spoken there. The most common languages (beside English) are Italian, Greek, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Australian weather is very special. December to March is summer and it’s very hot. In some parts of country it rains a lot, in other parts it gets very dry. UV rays are very dangerous and they can do a lot of damage to your skin. Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer. You need to be very careful, ’cause you can get burnt on a cloudy day too. In summer, Australia is pretty crowded and more expensive so you should consider going in October, November or April. You will avoid some of the crowds and save a little money, but enjoy pleasant temperatures.
Australians always pride about hard work. Make sure you get your work done, ’cause there is no bigger insult than to be a bludger.

Aussies love to drink and they think it’s never too early for an alcoholic drink. If you don’t like alcohol, expect some friendly teasing. You should always choose local drinks because Australia has a lot of tasty local brands.
You can’t go to Australia and not try the awesome wine. It has over 60 separate wine regions – it’s hard to choose!

Aussies are very social people. They love long conversations and are very curious. They like strangers and will often say hi to everyone they see. Their humour is usually dark and ironic. It’s very intelligent and it’s often self – mocking.

When you go out with your friends, you’re definitely not going to stare at your phone. Internet in Australia is very slow and expensive so your connection will probably be bad. If you’re very desperate, you can always go to a library or McDonald’s.

Australians love sport. Whether it’s football or cricket, they just love it all. It’s pretty normal to stay up very long and watch matches that are taking place on the other side of the world. Sports men and women are almost treated as gods.

The major cities in Australia are LGBT friendly, especially Sydney. Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the most popular street festivals in the world.

Australia was the second country that gave women voting rights in 1902.

Australia has over 10 000 beaches. That means you could visit a new beach every day for 27 years.

The Island of Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world.
The Great Barrier Reef is Australian pride. It’s the largest eco – system in the world and the planet’s largest living structure.

Travelling to Australia is the best thing you can do. It has the most beautiful beaches, the most amazing sunsets, great people. You’ll see all the wonderful things Australia has to offer, and I guarantee that it won’t be easy to say goodbye.
