Ibe Kachikwu Promised An End 2 Queues 2day But These Pics Tell A Different Story by jonhemma11: 12:38pm On Apr 07, 2016 |
Minister of state for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, assured Nigerians last week that the lingering fuel crisis would be fully resolved by Thursday, April 7, and that fuel queues would disappear across the country. We went round town to observe the state of things and the pictures do not seem to agree with the minister’s postulations. Late Wednesday night however, Dr Kachikwu uploaded a video on his Facebook page in which he explained some of the steps taken by the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under his leadership to address some of the factors behind the recurring fuel crisis. Kachikwu described the fuel subsidy issue as one of the most challenging his leadership inherited as subsidy arrears of over N500billion had remained unpaid for about a year. The problem was partially solved with a presidential and legislative approval in November 2015 to pay a good portion of the subsidy debts but some of the marketers could not access foreign exchange. The NNPC boss also explained that a major cause of the supply gap was that although NNPC meets its allocation of crude, the individuals who should provide 40 per cent were not bringing in any product. NNPC has therefore had to transit from a 45 per cent provider of refined fuel to bearing responsibility for 80 to 100 per cent supply whereas the challenges with obtaining foreign exchange remained. Kachikwu stated that he has been able to convince some major international oil companies to provide foreign exchange to support fuel importation while pressure has also been applied on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide more forex allocation to the NNPC. Explanations of the photos above(ordered as they appeared above).... 1.A very empty NNPC Mega-station on Bauchi junction, Jos. 2. ASCON Fuel station at Cement bus stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. 3. Cars waiting to buy fuel from Total filling station, opposite Abattior, along old Abeokuta road closed off one Lane and caused a hold up that stretched to Abule Egba. 4. Crowded NIPCO filling station at Bauchi Ring-Road, Jos where the product (PMS) is sold at 250 per litre 5. CONOIL Station close to Cement bus stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway 6. Chaotic scenes at the YANKARI filling station opposite UNIJOS permanent site where PMS sells at the official rate of N86.5 per litre. 7. ASCON Fuel station, Cement bus stop, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. N86.50, no jerrycan sales, thus queue is pretty orderly but spilling onto the express. 8. NNPC Kingsway Road Ikoyi. 9. Kachikwu told that fuel will be available in may. Politicians forced him to say 7th of April. It's unfortunate that some people still believe him 1 Like |
