I won't be explaining anything about radiography cos I am not a radiographer. I have said that explicitly. I am very experienced in this area of medicine cos its my everyday doing. If you had asked me to explain about radiation medicine and radiology then its a different issue cos thats what I know but the technicalities of the equipement eludes me cos I didnt learn that in school and I repeat I am not a radiographer.
What the young ones should go home with is this. When in doubt ask a more experienced hand. Also pls let no one deceive you to tell you that radiologists dont oversee the works radiographers. It is a lie, radiologist oversee radiographers. What the radiographer should find out is what kind of doctor is that because the law only allows radiologists that right and not any kind of doctor.
Imagine a cardiologist overseeing a radiographer?
The.next thing they should remember is that no one person knows it all. Doctors are human being and make mistakes too.
Lastly because both professions are related they should.learn to leave together and try not to step on eachothers feet.

sir I practice in Luth and I tell you those examinations you mentioned are examinations that are carried out once in a blue moon with the exception of angiography and you sounded like the examinations were meant to be done by you .do away with your pride and realize that patient diagnosis doesn't rely solely on you again..nowadays doctors only make assumptions and send request forms that makes you wonder how lazy they have become!!

Nowadays in Nigeria, where the course is now been offered only at the universities, I guess you're right. But, you'll have to consult the JAMB requirements.

From you comment radiography would be most probable for you. To do radiology you would first require a medical degree but to do radiography you may just be able to get into a programme directly using you previous degree in nuear sciences as a springboard.

I noticed the usual arrogance in your posts before your declaring you're a radiologist. I can't ascertain to your qualifications but am glad you are in agreement that a radiologist is not a radiographer, and one could face criminal and negligent charges in a law court. Medical Associations and Registration Councils have exerted ultimate penalties on medical officers even here in Nigeria. You may know of some examples during the time of Professor Olikoye Ransome Kuti as Nigeria's longest serving health minister.

No. School of Health Tech trains darkroom technicians, the truth is that they are gradually being phased out with the advent of digital radiography.
I learnt some instuitions in the north because of the shortage of hands are awarding some "diplomas" but this is quackery and won't get u registered.
The recognized Universities offering radiography today are Unilag, UNN, UNICAL and Unimaid. To the best of my knowledge

i conclude your knowledge of RADIOGRAPHY is very shallow. Radiographers are not and will never be supervised by Radiologist. Radiographers concern themselves with producing the best representation of the patient (image) and radiologist concern themselves with interpretation of the image.. Nobody bosses nobody.
full private diagnostic centres have Chief Radiographers as the overall head.
Next time don't speak out of ignorance or the reflex to speak nonsense.

Radiographers are not all fat salary earners. However, the opportunities to achieve your short term and long term goals abound.
The opportunities begin with recognition given to them. Notice how radiographers Youth Corpers are treated during the service year. They are most likely to be give accommodation by the authorities whether in the city or in a remote village! Even Doctor Corpers may end up having to fend for himself. Am not sure of nurses.
Other opportunities are from the fact that their services are perpetually in demand whereas the personnel are always few. Even where a lab technician or an expert radiologist is present, and they know how to carry out every diagnostic procedure, they MUST NOT carry out any radiographic diagnostic procedure unless by that qualified radiographer.

The cost of an education in radiography is the same as medical lab tech or science. The practice is guarded and regulated by an association of radiographers with a radiographers registration council. This means every radiographer is documented and licenced to practice radiography in Nigeria. This of course has resulted in a well protected profession in Nigeria and all over the world. Not all radiographers have to practice in an hospital environment. There are consultants, administrators, educators and other assignments to be taken up. All of this people MUST be licenced radiographers.
Radiography practice is also gender friendly and gender neutral. There is no bias often associated with engineering, aircraft pilots or nursing.

So while many are busy crying about job hunting, job insecurity waisted number of years searching for employment, admissions or traveling abroad just consider radiography, a profession often overlooked because it remains relatively unknown.

Radiography does not enjoy an exclusivity on this. No qualified actuarial science person is jobless. Professionally qualified and certified actuaries are less 5 or so in the country.
