SENATORS yesterday resolved to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari next week to end the budget row —amicably.

The meeting is to take place either Monday or Tuesday, depending on the President’s choice.

Ahead of next week’s meeting, the Senate has raised a committee to review the disputed items in the budget and harmonise them in line with what was presented to the National Assembly by the President, who has sent a list of the grey areas and mutilated items to the National Assembly. One of such areas is the Calabar0Lagos rail project.

The senators’ decision to meet with the President was the highlight of yesterday’s Executive Session.

Most senators were disturbed by four things at the closed door meeting, a source said. These are:

breakdown of communication between the Presidency and the National Assembly;
loss of public sympathy by the National Assembly;
the proposed Occupy National Assembly protest; and
negative effects of the budget impasse on the economy and the wellbeing of Nigerians.

It was gathered that most senators at the meeting were unhappy that public opinion was weighing against the National Assembly.

A committee comprising the chairmen of the Appropriation Committee (Danjuma Goje -Senate and Abdulmumin Jibrin-House of Representatives) and the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo-Udoma and others was formed.

The source, who pleaded for anonymity, said: “At the Executive Session, we all agreed that the Senate appears to be losing the goodwill of Nigerians, especially on the row over the budget.

“We have received all the grey areas or mutilated items in the budget from the Presidency. The President indicated priority projects which ought to be in the budget.

“After exhaustive deliberations, we have set up a committee to review and harmonise all these gaps. The committee is composed of some senators and some members of the Executive, led by the Minister of Budget and National Planning.

”The committee will start sitting today with a Saturday deadline to complete its assignment.”

Another senator said: “All senators resolved to meet with the President on Monday or Tuesday as part of a new rapprochement with the Executive.

“We want to bridge the communication gap and correct the impression that we are up in arms to frustrate the Buhari administration.

“To us, Nigeria is greater than any individual or institution. We don’t want the nation to travel this road all over. When we meet with the President, we will also make our views known on certain lapses, which we have observed on the part of the Executive.

“All of us decided to meet with the President at the Villa instead of sending a few who might not represent us well. It is left for the President to give us a convenient date.”

Another senator said the Senate agreed that there was “no need for Occupy National Assembly” planned by some Nigerians.

“We have agreed to address the budget impasse. We felt going the way of Occupy National Assembly will heat up the polity.

“We also cautioned individual Senators against running to the social media on issues in the Senate when there is enough freedom for all senators to air their views.

“Some of our colleagues are using the social media to destroy this hallowed chamber.”

NASS has not lost public support. What NASS lost is APC social media team support.

APC controled Nigeria media both socail, electronic & print are the ones sending wrong signals to Nigeria against NASS. Even is NASS like, let them do everything Buhari says, it wont change a thing unless they do two things; especially in the senate.
1: Saraki must be done with. Either by resigning or by booting out by CCT.
2: Ike Ekweremadu must vacate office of the DSP, either by impeechment or by walking out.

Unless these two things are done, the excutive & NASS can never enjoy positive publicity by the media.

We need a NASS that is free of Executive‘s control. I dont see any reason why NASS should go begging the Executive. Today the judiciary is an arm of the executive. If NASS joins them then we are doomed.

Seperation of power does not mean destroying policy of the executive that will benefit Nigerians.

Seperation of powers is not using 35million naira to buy one SUV despite bad economy situation of the country. Insensitivity to the people is not seperation of power.

Seperation of power is not removal of Calabar lagos rail from the Budget despite knowing the economic importance of d project all in d name of myopic politics.

Seperation of power is not diverting money meant for developmental project that will benefit d nation to constituency project that they will steal.

Seperation of power is not rushing the amendmend of CCT act in one week when PIB which has been with them for over a year has not pass a single reading.

Sabotage is not seperation of power. What Saraki NASS is doing currrently is Sabotage and not checkmating d executive.

Majority of Nigerians are against NASS. There is no leader/institution in d world no matter how bad or evil that 100% of the country will be against. Once majority of the people is against an institution, that means dat institution have lost support of that country.

The only people supporting NASS currently are IPOB tout and some PDP fanatics. And they are minority. And they supporting NASS for political reasons and not for National development and growth. Mostly due to bitterness and hatred due to election loss hangover.

Majority of Nigerians are Pro Buhari, Pro APC and anti Saraki, anti NASS as at today.

In summary, most Nigerians are anti NASS for many reasons. Budget distortions, 36 SUV and Saraki are top reasons why Most Nigerians are against NASS. If majority of Nigerians are against NASS, it means Nigeria public is against NASS. Thus NASS is loosing public support.

IPOB taut and PDP fanatics are deluded. If you think Majority of Nigerians are supporting PDP today because of current temporary difficulties that will be overcome with time, then you are sitting on a long thing!

Majority of Nigerians are not stupid. We are all aware of the impact of Oil price in Nigeria economy. Majority of Nigerians knows the cause and source of current hardship is oil price.

What Majority of Nigerians are praying for is for God to give d current govt the wisdom, foresight, energy and zeal to overcome d challenge of low oil price. So dat Nigeria can stand firm irrespective of low oil price.

In our complain and fustration we hope and pray for better days ahead.

As at today, Majority of Nigerians are with Buhari and APC. And Majority of Nigerians are against NASS for using Saraki trial to create problem for the President and Budget 2016.

Majority of Nigerians are against NASS.
i wonder the people that represent majority u talk about.

Take a trip outside the media and ask question, u will see who majority of Nigerians are against.

APC media guys are out there telling the public that NASS is wrking against PMB, all because Saraki the wrong guy is on the driver‘s sit.

Majority of Nigerians, the comon person on ur street knows PMB is a bad president that has destroyed Nigeria. Go out and take a poll.

NASS will end up being blackmailed into becoming an arm of the executive too. Then we will all perish... GOD FORBID THAT!

NASS never lost my support or that of millions of Nigerians.

If not for NASS, Buhari would have gotten away with the fraud he planned to commit with the first submitted budget.

Nigerians will forever be grateful to the NASS for that. If not for that eagle-eye effort, even Buhari's cows will also be flying first class, not just his daughter and his other products of child rape

NASS is not the reason d Budget was looked into in detail. Most members of NASS are crooked. If Buhari has shared Ghana must go the way PDP govt used to do in d past, the Budget would have been passed without any hurdle.

How can 469 people share N120 Billion every year in this same nation with 2.5 million people living as IDPs, barely 5% of graduating students getting employed, and minimum wage pegged at N18,000.

You are eating Billions and you want impoverished public to sing your praises? What good have these miscreants done for the overwhelming majority to ask for our support?

Have they reduced their irresponsible take-home - no! they are buying exotic cars while we languish in hardship? What about bills taking some of the Billions the lawbreakers, Governors, Ministers and Ex-leaders are currently enjoying now and redistributing it to lift IDPs conditions and pulling millions of poor people out of poverty.
