With the complete integration of Visafone's LTE service in the pipeline, MTN may well fully launch it's LTE broadband in select cities.
It is believed that MTN will have an edge due to its big subscriber base as compared to almost no subscriber on the NTEL network. LTE service from NTEL is yet to be fully rolled out across the country with most sim card reservations yet to be fulfilled.
Pricing will also be an issue for NTEL if the subscription details already given out will be followed through. MTN seems ready as competitive pricing is now available on the TRUTALK plan.
The plan now offers N2560 worth of airtime for calls and SMS and 2GB of data, all for N2000 only. This is one of the most competitive in the market across all mobile networks. With this, MTN is definitely making a statement to every other players in the market - majorly NTEL as they look to rival their provision of the LTE service in Nigeria.

Processes as such take time and a lot money. It's easier for MTN as they will be operating on the framework earlier laid down by Visafone.

They should all be a bit worried, especially Gsm networks like airtel and etisalat that have no access to spectrum that can be used to deliver LTE and even LTE companies like smile and Co that don't have national spread.

Now we know why etisalat wanted to cry foul when MTN bought visa phone. MTN is big enough and has deep enough pockets to dominate the others of it gets LTE before them which will be a big deal because up till now data was probably the only area where MTN wasnt a leader.
The emergence of this LTE is why airtel have suddenly started mega data packs like glo. Glo was because it knows that is data network is the worst so it had to lead in data volume. Airtels network on the other hand is okay, but it's planning ahead for the onslaught from MTN by giving more data and hopefully getting loyal customers locked in. Etisalat on the other hand hasn't fully played is card. This 4.5gb for 3.5 is the first step, but it probably has to do more than that. However it knows it has the best Gsm data network (which in some cases can rival a poor LTE network) so they are not as panicky.

If mtns LTE will be priced like what I see on their hynet page for their existing LTE which is only available in Lagos and ibadan at the moment, then it's be worried too.
