CHILD PLEASE DON'T GROW

Child please don't grow
so you don't become wise as the world knows
so your perspectives are as little as one
and yourselves work simple and done
don't grow to become cautious
and live entangled by factions of fables and tables of fear created by your fellow man
and believe for an event there's an unseen force
that pulls you away from your divine cause


Child please don't grow
so your eyes are not unveiled
to see and perceive meanings in things so trivial
let he who slaps you today
know that he is still your friend another day
even though people will not admire your efforts
let them be, for your simple mind will be their reports
make family of all you meet
and when they fail to reciprocate, erase the hurt and give them another chance on a blank sheet


Child please don't grow
so you know what rewards lie ahead
when you are patient not desperate
but desperate when you must be
when you are silent not speaking
but speaking when you must
when you are content not greedy
but refusing not to give for a good reason
when you work for a dime not sad
but happy when you refuse free gifts for you know the worth of working for a gift

Child please dont grow
so you dont become proud when you are successful
but humble and glad for your achievements
don't grow
so that when you do better than your peers
you look at them with mockery and jeers
but know that every man must taste sweetness at one point in his life
don't grow
so that when you fail you become sad and Idle
but seek a measure to make yourself better to be able to take the mantle
and when your friends make exploits
don't be jealous but learn their strategies at attaining heights

But grow
to be a man
renowned for diligence in the little he did
and made it great through his deed
always resilient
never putting up the look of procrastination
doing what needed to be done because there was still enough time to do it
and earning a reputation for being dutiful even in the heat.
