Friendship in Aristotle Vis-À-Vis Modern Day Conception of Friendship

As regards friendship, there are different conceptions as there are scholars who philosophize on that. Each expresses his or her own notion of friendship. Though there are different notions among scholars about friendship, most of the differences perhaps are as a result of cultural differences and background...

Utilitarianism In John Stuart Mill (A Critical Appraisal)

The utilitarian principle is seen and has been held as the true standard of morality and most reliable measurement for distinguishing good actions from the bad actions. The goodness (right) or badness (wrong) of an action lies in its usefulness as means for attainment of happiness or pleasure and diminishing pain...

PURPOSE OF THE WORK
Nietzsche in a bid to free man from his depressed state brought to the consciousness of all the fact that man must abandon or eliminate the idea of God, religion and morality. An exhaustive effort is therefore made towards analyzing, exposing and evaluating this surpassing of oneself in a bid to realize oneself and we shall see also why it is egocentric.

.3. THE PURPOSE OF STUDY
The real question is what has this work to contribute to the global debates on the issue of human cloning? That is towards resolving the problem of human cloning. Naturally1, it is not ethical or moral to kill. It is against the moral law to destroy another person’s life. But embryos are deprived the right to live by denying them “personhood” by some biologists. This is the basis for their exposure as objects of research and experimenta
The purpose of this work as a matter of fact, is to look at the scientific practices or researches on human life and their ethical implications. This consideration will necessarily lead to a redefinition of the status of human embryo in the face of biotechnological sciences. We hope to find out the proper place for the fertilization of the human embryo, whether in the womb or in the Petri dish outside the womb.

1.4 JOHN LOCKE’S IDEA
The English Empiricist and moral and political philosopher, John Locke (1632-1704), is renowned for his political thought and especially his social contract theory. Locke’s “state of nature” was meant to be harmonious and peaceful. Men are bound to preserve peace, mankind and even avoid hurting the other. The well keeping and execution of the law of nature is meant for every member of the society. The actual violation of this law by the individual in the society leads to an eventual state of war between the person and others

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This work as considered above is borne out of a desire to address analytically the unresolved problem of the individual and the state. There have never been in time since the dawn of political philosophy, any socio-political issue that never attracted so much attention, reflection and debate among political theorists as the relation of the individual and the state. Plato contemplated it; Aristotle, Aquinas, Grothius, Suarez, Rousseau and others followed suit to the present day. Its power of attraction does not arise from its being an intellectually fertile issue, rather, it is because it fundamentally affects and penetrates the deepest bossoms of the dignity of man. It refers superlatively to the human person.

Purpose of this work.

The purpose of this work is to expose and critically examine the Freudian concept of man as detailed in his work the Ego and the Id. This examination is necessary in order to assess the contributions of Freud to philosophical knowledge and the excesses of his assumptions.

Scope of study

This work is particularly centred on the concepts of the Ego and the Id, and how they help us have a deeper understanding of man and his life. To substantiate our points, views from philosophers will be considered where necessary

AIM OF STUDY
The most urgent issue in Nigeria currently seems to be the issue on how to address the problem of leadership. Having done away with military leadership, Nigerians thought that embracing democratic rule would bring to us a responsive and responsible political institution that would promote a government that is accountable, government that would prevent corruption, respect human and civil rights, and ensure popular sovereignty, but the reverse is the case. In view of this, the aim of this work is to see how the issues of corruption, incompetent leadership, tribalism and nepotism, since they remained the most difficult problems in Nigeria leadership system, could be addressed.

Plato’s Idea Of ‘Philosopher King’ And Nigerian Leadership Crisis

Purpose of the Study.
“Love is the basis of Justice”1 as Augustine would have it, and this agrees with Plato’s idea of harmony between the three classes in the state each performing his duty out of love of each other so as to achieve the common goal (good of the society). Plato and the rest of the moral philosophers who sort for Justice in the world could be called the prophets of social Justice.

Given the nature of this work, it is limited to the most striking points in Plato’s discussion on politics, and the emergence of an ideal state governed in Justice i.e., on how best the state should be governed for the interest of both the state and citizens. This work is directed to solving social political problems that arise in the contemporary politics, following the paradigm, which should be applied in the present day politics,

Social Status In Plato’s Ideal State: Its Relevance To Nigerian Society
Man, by nature, is a social animal said Plato. But every “society is made up of unique individuals who fail or succeed, are powerful or weak, not as a consequence of stratification but because of their individual biographies”. It implies that man, being naturally social, unique and differs from one another in terms of individual biography, forms a society, which is comprised of different individuals with different or diverse natural dispositions and talents.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
Notion Of Change And Permanence In Aristotle
It is the answer to these arrays of thought provoking questions that this paper is geared to find. It is the search for the most fundamental truth about this world. Truth about reality never completely manifests itself at an instance but through a process of gradual unfolding. This paper inquires into the origin of the problem of change and permanence, and then will investigate the views offered by two great philosophers of timeless repute, Heraclitus and Parmenides. Further, it studies in a more detailed manner the solutions offered by one of the greatest genius, Aristotle. Lastly, the tremendous impact of his thought on practical life will be viewed.
