[size=16pt]Police arrest 18 over Senator's house set on fire[/size]

– Some irate youths aggrieved that senator Kabiru refused to fulfill his pre-election promises, set the lawmaker’s house on fire
– The youths destroyed the lawmakers’ belongings threatening to assault the parliamentarians
– Hon Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud, a member of the House of Representatives was also a victim of the attack
– Mahmoud’s poultry was attacked by the irate youths
– Police has arrested 18 youths involved in the arson attack

The youths in their thousands stormed the Kano residence of the Senator Kabiru on Wednesday, May 11, seizing properties and damaging belongings.

They burnt down properties badly and despite the fact that they had initially appeared to have dispersed, later regrouped and became more violent.

It was also gathered that they set fire on the campaign office of Gaya as the youths said they were angry because Gaya and Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud refused to provide the basic amenities as they promised prior to the 2015 elections.

Meanwhile, for burning the personal house of Senator Gaya in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano during a protest, the state police command has arrested 18 suspects. The protesters who also vandalized the poultry farm of House of Alhaji Mahmoud, were apprehended during the violence, according to the command’s public relations officer, DSP Magaji Majiya. Majiya disclosed that the state police commissioner, Mr Maigari Dikko who visited the area ordered the arrest of five others believed to be the mastermind of the protest.

“We have arrested 18 suspects and they are now assisting us in our investigations. “Similarly, the commissioner has ordered the arrest of five others identified as masterminds of the protest,” he said. According to him, the commissioner had ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to enhance security in the area

He added that the police commissioners had visited the families of the affected politicians where he sympathized with them. Majiya said as soon as investigation was completed, the suspects would be prosecuted.

Some angry youths had on Wednesday set ablaze the personal residence of Sen. Kabiru Gaya and vandalized the poultry farm of House of Representatives member from the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud.
