Hello Fellow Nairalanders!. I wrote this a while back and i'll like to get feedback from you guys 'bout it. Here goes

I REFUSE

In our world that is rife with strife
I publicly declare my refutations
carving out these declarations
for the extinguishing of said aberrations

I refuse to live in a land flowing with milk and honey
while a larger population grasp for food in the dust bin
I refuse to exist in a world where I am judged by the colour of my skin
before I open my mouth to speak

I refuse to live in a world
where my accent determines my access
where I am deemed inferior to others
because of my skin tone

I refuse to live in a society which
welcomes these aberrations
heralding these people
as if some innate ability or intelligence they posses

I refuse to exist in a world where freely expressing my culture
is deemed an abomination
where my dress sense is equated to my essence
and my accent determines my word's content

I refuse to grow by rules whereby
my affiliates efficacy in the world determines my level of exaltation
where my life's matter is reduced to what I have on paper
and not the content of my medulla

I refuse to obey rules formed out of a false sense of superiority
having no real benefits for those for whom it was formed
I refuse to be forced to practice my faith
when that faith itself violently refutes the same

I refuse to be instructed one thing
and watch my instructors perform that which they so violently object
to be told how to promote my heritage
only to watch those who declare this promote laws which negate their proclamation

I refuse to live beside half-witted men
saying one thing and doing another
I refuse to refuse everything tagged wrong
without an understanding of why it is so

I do not refuse people experiencing life
making mistakes and learning from them
I do not refuse people falling in love
and living happy lives

I do not refuse happily ever afters
even if the story in between was not all laughter
I do not refuse thorough examination of every incidence
before it is thrown out like a baby with bath water

I do not refuse a lot of things
and I refuse those who refuseto live life
but follow set rules to the letter
though some are formed without antecedent background

Now that I have publicly declared my refutations
with the aim of extinguishing these aberrations
I hope that in some way
I have affected my generation.

Very well articulated!

From your poem
I presume you are a white man in black community, or vice versa!

You are welcome Muyiscoy. I would have loved to see your email address and your other works; I don't know what you think about this.

hi again Dynamiq. Thanks for taking an interest in my works. some of them can be found here www.muyiwai..com. it is a blog i opened a while back but didn't quite follow up on it. are you a writer or poet? i'd like to sample some of your works too if you are.

Of course, I am a writer and a poet - my poems are almost up to a hundred now. I have seen your blog and you really have nice poetry pieces, but have you gotten copyright for them before putting them on the Internet? Have you taken steps to protect your intellectual property from theft and plagiarism? Or don't you think it is necessary?
Re: I Refuse (a Poem) by muyiscoi(m): 1:45am On Feb 06, 2010
thanks for the reminder. that is a huge oversight on my part. poems i post on facebook and some other sites are usually inder the creative commons licence which i'm sure you must have heard about. i guess i would have to place a disclaimer somewhere on the blog to protect the poems from plagiarism. once again, thanks for the reminder.
