Ramadan is here again

May Allah count us among those who shall witness and complete it and indeed many more to come.

i once watched an islamic phone in TV programme and i called in only for the anchor to inquire to know my goals in the holy month and i felt like, no goal. let us start fasting.

looking back, i feel that was so terrible of me. there must be goals. we shuld set goals in terms of number of quran to complete, number of people you want to make happy, break their fast for them, sick pple u want to visit, verses to memorise, virtue to imbibe during and after the month and vices to shun. with clearly defined goals, evaluation is made possible.

as we await the heralding of the holy month, let us remeber that we do not have to sight the moon ourselves, once a believing muslim has declared the sighting of the moon, LET THE FAST BEGIN.

may Allah make us witness many more of the holy month!

A Quick preparation list for the month of Ramadan

Ramadan is the month of excitement for Muslims. Ramadan is the month of revelation of Quran, the month of reading and reciting the whole Quran, the month of Tahajjud and Qiyam al-layl prayers, Sadaqah, Zakah al-Fitr and Zakah al-Mal. Ramadan is also a month of social activities among Muslims.

No one can go anywhere without preparation, and no one invites a guest without preparing to welcome him / her. Similarly, to welcome Ramadan, the month of fasting, one has to prepare. The following are some tips to help the reader prepare accordingly:

Start reading Quran daily after Salat al-Fajr.
Spend some time listening to recitations from the Quran.
Train yourself to go bed early so that you can wake up far Salat al-Fajr.
Keep yourself in a state of Wudu (Ablution) most of the time.
Evaluate yourself daily before going bed.
Thank Allah for good deeds, and repent to Him for your mistakes and sins.
Start giving Sadaqah daily, no matter how little. Make it a habit like eating and drinking.
Find time to pray extras, such as Tahajjud prayers.
Spend more time reading Islamic books, especially the Quran, Sirah, Hadith, and Fiqh.
Find time to help others with your wisdom, knowledge and other talents.
Try to write articles on Islam for Muslims as well as for non-Muslims.
Associate with Muslim scholars / ulama and other pious people so that you may learn from them.
Train yourself to do good, render free service to others to seek the pleasure of Allah.

What to avoid list during the month of Ramadan

Reduce watching TV, instead spend more time reading the Quran and other Islamic literature.
Avoid looking at unlawful pictures, whether magazines, department store catalogs or otherwise.
Avoid going to theaters; instead go to Masajid, Islamic organizations and make that a daily habit.
Avoid eating too much. Eat only when you are hungry and try not to fill your stomach completely.
If you drink Coffee, Tea or Soda, be sure to reduce consumption.
If you smoke, try to reduce daily usage; otherwise Ramadan will be very difficult for you to observe.
If you like to listen to music, whether the style of western societies or even those from Muslim countries, reduce, even eliminate the time you spent on them; replace them with reciting and listening to recitation from the Quran.
If you enjoy playing cards and board games try your best to avoid them as much as possible and fill your time with something useful.
If you enjoy going with friends to picnics and other social gatherings, try to reduce it before Ramadan; otherwise fasting the month of Ramadan will be more difficult.
If you have friends who do not practice the teaching of Islam, try to avoid socializing with them.

If you travel a lot on business, try to do more local business, so you can be more closer to your family and community.
If you are used to staying up till midnight, try to go to bed earlier, so that you will be able to wake up early for Salat al-Fajr and Tahajjud prayers as well.
To prepare ourselves before the month of Ramadan arrives is far better than waiting till it comes. To prepare ourselves for anything in life is a sign of wisdom and maturity. No one is assured of living one day more; tomorrow may not come. So hurry and benefit from blessings and rewards from Allah.

Remember: "Time is not money or gold; it is life itself and is limited. You must begin to appreciate every moment of your life and always strive to make the best use of it."

Things to do during Ramadan

Make a resolve to win the maximum favor of Allah by performing extra Voluntary prayers (Nawaafil), making frequent Dua and increased remembrance (Dhikr).
Try to recite some Holy Quran after every Prayer. In fact if you read 3-4 pages after every Prayer you can easily finish the entire Quran in Ramadan!
Study the Tafseer (commentary) every morning.
Invite a person you are not very close with or your relatives to your home for Iftaar, at least once a week (Weekend). You will notice the blessings in your relationships!
Bring life to your family! Everyday, try to conclude the fast with your family and spend some quality time together to understand each other better.
Give gifts on Eid to at least 5 people: 2 to your family members, 2 to your good friends, and 1 to a person whom you love purely for the sake of Allah.
Make commitment to join Islamic study circles to learn more about Islam and improve your own life.

Donate generously to the Masajid, Islamic organizations, and any where people are in need or oppressed. "Because Ramadan, is a month of sharing!"
Share month of Ramadan and its teachings of peace and patience with your neighbours.
Sleep little, eat little! Make sure you do not defeat the purpose of fasting by over-indulging in food and being lazy.
Seek the rare and oft-neglected rewards of the night better than 1000 months (Laylatul-Qadr / Shab-e-Qadr).
Weep in private for the forgiveness of your sins: Ramadan is the month of forgiveness and Allah's Mercy! It's never too late.
Learn to control your tongue and lower your gaze. Remember the Prophet's (PBUH) warning that lying, backbiting, and a lustful gaze all violate the Ramadan fast!
Encourage others to enjoin and love goodness, and to abandon everything that Allah dislikes. Play the role of a Da'ee (one who invites to Allah) with zeal, passion, and sympathy.

Experience the joy of Tahajjud prayers late at night and devote yourself purely and fully to Allah in the Itikaf retreat during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

May Allah make it easier for us. (Amin)

Very good thread. We would, inshaAllah, be contributing.

May Allah, the Exalted, answers our prayer in the month and after it. May He put us amongst those who will be forgiven in the month, amen.

Assalamu alaikum,

The Prophet Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, said: "When you see it (the new month of Ramadhan) observe fasting, and when you see the new moon of the next month, stop fasting. If cloud, haze or the like, obsecures the new moon of Ramadhan then complete Sha'aban as 30 days. (Ibid).

Considering this authentic hadeeth and many more others, there is nothing new in what happened yesterday as the Sultan announced that the commencement of this year's Ramadhan is tomorrow--Saturday.

May Allah answer our prayers in the month and forgive our sins, amin.

Ramadan is not in commemoration of Quran. It was just that 1st revelation occurred in month of Ramadan. Fasting if 1 of 5 pillars of Islam.

How to Fast Healthily During Ramadan

With the fast of Ramadan upon us, we thought it might be useful to look at ways of trying to maintain a healthy diet whilst fasting. Fasting for 12 to 24 hours or more can lead to dizziness and fatigue and a lowering of metabolic rate as a means of conserving calories or energy. Here are some simple guidelines to make sure that your diet remains balanced and healthy during this fasting period:

Don't skip breakfast
Even though the thought of sleep may be far more appealing than waking up to force down some food, don't skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For years, research has shown that breakfast (the breaking of the overnight fast) provides the essential nutrients and energy needed for concentration while keeping hunger symptoms like headaches, fatigue, sleepiness and restlessness at bay. In addition, it also gets our metabolic rates up and going - it is therefore vital to ensure an adequate intake at breakfast time.

Eat a wide variety of foods
Especially now, when your daily intake is limited to two meals per day, you need to put extra effort into including foods from all the food groups. Our bodies need at least 40 different nutrients every day to ensure that we grow adequately and maintain good health. Although most foods contain more than one nutrient, no single food provides all the necessary nutrients. Moreover, foods have benefits that can't be replicated by a pill. It is thus important to eat a wide variety of foods every day, so as to ensure that we get all of these nutrients. The way to ensure variety, and with it a well-balanced diet, is to select foods each day from each of the five food groups:
• Breads, cereals and other grain products
• Fruit and vegetables
• Meat, fish and poultry
• Milk, cheese and yoghurt
• Fats and sugars (these contain very little nutrients and are high in calories and therefore their intake should be limited).

Use low glycaemic (GI) foods at breakfast to help control blood sugar levels
Carbohydrates are now classified according to their glucose response or glyceamic index. The GI measures how fast the carbohydrate of a particular food is converted to glucose and enters the bloodstream. It therefore tells you which carbohydrate foods satisfy hunger for longer. The lower the number of the GI, the slower the food is converted to sugar and the better it is. Selecting low GI foods therefore helps maintain normal blood sugar control, minimizes hunger pangs and satisfies appetite without providing excess calories. Also, by controlling blood sugar levels, you prevent excessive eating binges as a result of low blood sugar levels. Click here for a list of common food products and their actual GI values. Remember to include low GI foods at each meal, and to avoid eating high GI foods on their own, but rather to mix them with low GI foods, which will give an intermediate GI overall.

Be aware of your cooking methods
By making small changes in your cooking habits, you can create great-tasting foods that are also healthy for you. Although special recipes are an important part of family tradition, many of those treasured favorites have too high a fat content for today's generation of health-conscious cooks. You do not have to give up those old favorites - convert them! Here's how:
• Always trim off all excess fat from before cooking or use veal, venison, chicken and Soya as lower fat options. Remove poultry skin before or after cooking. Choose light meat (breast) instead of dark meat (leg, wing).
• Cut down on fat intake during cooking wherever possible:
- cook onions in a small amount of water or even vegetable stock rather than oil or butter
- use non-stick frying pans and non-stick sprays (like Spray 'n Cook) rather than oil or margarine if frying
- bake, grill or roast foods rather than frying
- cook roasted meat or poultry on a wire rack so that the fat can drip off
- vegetables should be steamed or boiled with as little cream or margarine as possible
- when preparing rice, noodles and other grains, season with herbs, spices and broths rather than added fat
- prepare soups, gravies and sauces in advance, so that they can be refrigerated and the layer of fat that forms on top removed
- experiment with herbs and spices to add flavor and zest to low-fat cooking. Herbs, such as basil, bay leaf, oregano, or rosemary adds distinctive flavors and colors to meat and vegetables. Spices, like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg enhance the sweet taste of foods, and seasoning blends, such as chili powder, curry powder provide a complex array of flavors
• Avoid taking in too much salt
- Use garlic, dry mustard, pepper, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes to add flavor to meat and vegetables
- Add sliced lemon or lemon juice to white meats and fish
- Use herbs and spices instead
• Make healthy changes to recipes
Use your regular recipes, but start cutting the fat in half. If a recipe calls for cream or whole milk, use evaporated or fresh skim milk. If a recipe calls for a whole egg, use two egg whites, etc.

Eat enough carbohydrate foods - especially those rich in fiber
These foods provide the body with energy. They are often incorrectly labeled as fattening and unnecessarily limited. They are rich in vitamins belonging to the B group, and are an excellent source of fiber. Bear in mind that hi-fiber foods have a greater effect on satiety than their low-fiber counterparts. Examples of foods high in fiber include brown rice, whole grains, fresh fruit and raw veggies.

Remember your fruits and vegetables
Fruit and vegetables add colour and variety to the menu. They are often termed our "protective" foods as they help the body fight off sickness and disease. This is because they are rich sources of a variety of vitamins and minerals. An added benefit is that they are relatively low in calories and also contribute to our daily fiber intake.

Drink sufficient fluid
Always include water in your diet and limit your intake of caffeine-containing beverages. Caffeine is a diuretic and will not provide adequate hydration.
We all know that maintaining a balanced diet by eating healthily has a vital influence on your well being. Try following the above principles so that this fast period does not sway too much from the principles of good nutrition.

1. is it good to wear jeans& top during fasting

as a muslim lady, with or without fasting, it is not good to wear any cloth that will bring out the shape of ur body, either jeans or anyother,

fastng just gave u the opputunity to end all ur miss deads and change for better. but note, that u re not just stopping because of fasting, but because is nt good at all,

2. is it good to chat with boyfriend during fasting

chatting with boyfriend/girl friend is not bad during fasting, provided u are not saying sinful things, just mare discussion is nt bad,

3. is it good to keep malice during fasting

with or without fasting. keeping malice is not good, the prophet (saw) said keeping malice for a complete day, is bad because if u die keeping dat malice, u will end up in hell,

4. is it good to trouser suite to work during fasting

there is nothin wrong in wearing trouser to work during fasting, provided its not a trouser dat will show ur shape, for women, wearing anything dat will bring our ur shape is bad, women are special creature from Allah, u should always try to cover urself,

5. is it good to visit boyfriend during fasting

it is advisable not to visit boyfriend alone during fasting because this is an holy month, although its nt a bad thing islamically, but to protect and keep both parties on nd safer side, but if u think u re both God fearing, and can avoid any thing dat can tamper with ur fasting, not bad,

Massalam

Firstly, it is essential to say that what is not allowed in other months is not allowed in ramadan. there are no new hadith/quranic revelation during the blessed month of ramadan.

therefore:
1) wearing of jeans: trouser or skirt?. if trouser, outrightly disallowed. if skirt, is it revealing?, does it bring out your shape(curves), ? if yes, it is disallowed.

2)chat with a boyfriend;u can chat with a muslim male or your would be husband.( wouldnt know if boyfriend refers to any of these.) the subject matter of the chat should however be meaningful with respect to the holy month.

3)certainly not, not at another time.sure u knw that.

4)trouser is completely forbidden; Allah(SWT) has forbidden female from dressing associated with male and vice versa

5)male friend and would be husband, yes. but the location is crucial. should never be in his home (this is applicable in other months of the year) if in his home, tow of you should never be left alone behind close doors.  we all know the inherent danger in this.

baby-mi, by Allah, i have not spoken with my reasoning but by islamic injuction which is verifiable.

questions should not be directed to a mature muslim but a knowledgeable muslim, else u will be told what u will love to hear.

May Allah make it easy and forgive us our shortcomings

If i do, will that nullify my fast?
Re: Ramadan Is Here, Matters Arising by Abuzola(m): 12:03am On Aug 25, 2009
Lmao.
Mrcrack- it does not nullify, but you should have check out and see if anybody is looking for missing money and if you can't find anybody looking for it then it yours, give 1% of the money as charity. You are bail.

@omo, is it during day time or night, if is day time you should be careful not to terminate your fast with temptation, let her know that if she makes you do anything that result to nullifying the fast it will make God angry with her in this blessed month. Anybody who nullify a single fasting will fast for 60 days no interval, as expiation, failure to do that you will meet Azizul Hakim on that day. You know what i mean

blessings in your relationships!

5. Bring life to your family!
Everyday, try to conclude the
fast with your family and spend
some quality time together to understand
each other better.

6. Give gifts on Eid to at least 5 people:
2 to your family members,
2 to your good friends,
and 1 to a person whom you love purely
for the sake of Allah.

7. Make commitment to join Islamic
study circles to learn more about Islam
and improve your own life.

Islamic organizations, and any where
people are in need or oppressed.
"Because Ramadan, is a month of sharing!"

9. Share month of Ramadan and its

your neighbors.

10.Sleep little, eat little! Make sure
you do not defeat the purpose of fasting
by over-indulging in food and being lazy.

11.Seek the rare and oft-neglected
rewards of the night better than 1000 months
( Laylatul-Qadr / Shab-e-Qadr) .

12.Weep in private for the forgiveness
of your sins: Ramadan is the month
of forgiveness and Allah's Mercy!
It's never too late.

and lower your gaze.
Remember the Prophet's (pbuh)
warning that lying, backbiting,
and a lustful gaze all violate
the Ramadan fast!

and love goodness, and to abandon
everything that Allah dislikes.

Play the role of a Da'ee (one who invites to Allah)
with zeal, passion, and sympathy.

and fully to Allah in the Itikaf retreat
during the last 10 days of Ramadan

Continue the above practice till

next Ramadan and so on. May Allah give us the strength 2 carry out our ibadah, and may Allah bless all of u 4 ur effort of enligthenment, amin.

RAMADAN KAREEM

sww,

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said: "When a man dies and his relatives are busy in funeral, there stands an extremely handsome man by his head. When the dead body is shrouded, that man gets in between the shroud and the chest of the deceased.

When after the burial, the people return home, 2 angels, Munkar and Nakeer(names of two special Angels), come in the grave and try to separate this handsome man so that they may be able to interrogate the dead man in privacy about his faith. But the handsome man says, "He is my companion, he is my friend. I will not  leave him alone in any case. If you are appointed for interrogation, do your job. I cannot leave him until I get him admitted into Paradise ".

Thereafter he turns to his dead companion and says, "I am the Qura'an, which you used to read, sometimes in a loud voice and sometimes in a low voice. Do not worry. After the interrogation of Munkar and Naker, you will have no grief."

When the interrogation is over, the handsome man arranges for him from Al-Mala'ul A'laa (the angels in Heaven) silk bedding filled with musk.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said: "On the Day of Judgement, before Allah, no other Intercessor will have a greater status than the Qura'an, neither a Prophet nor an angel."

make d Qur'an ur best frnd and companion, for, every verse u read u will get a multiple reward 4 it, and dat means more brigthness 4 u.

May Allah be with us all through.amin.
