Protest by individuals led to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) admitting on Thursday it made errors on the list of Nigerians owing the five troubled banks, whose total debts amount to N1.1 trillion.

Even with that, the CBN said it would soon publish more names of those indebted to the banks – Intercontinental, Oceanic, Union, Finbank, and Afribank.

The five are exposed to the capital market to the tune of N500 billion out of the N800 billion exposure by all banks, it noted.

The CBN also acknowledged errors regarding the titles of government officials and companies on the list.

“The general public and all concerned should note that the list published is as at May 31, 2009 and if any of the defaulters/debtors have made any repayments after that date, they should sort it out with the relevant bank,” the CBN remarked on its website.

Re: Cbn Admits Error In List Of Bank Debtors by Matinho: 5:45pm On Aug 21, 2009
dude jumping is different from leaping and there is no harm in leaping as long as you look before you do, the CBN definitely made a couple of errors one of which was the typographic error Aliko Dangote instead of Ali Dangote,I mean these are the things you least expect in sensitive matters like this. The manner in which the banck chiefs were removed are also quite questionable,Sanusi got rid of his perenial foes Cecilia and Erastus just like that,i can tell you there is definitely foul play somewhere so ms.fhemmy once again shame on a nation s apex bank

Dude when your apex bank publishes erroneous names and wrong figures what should the outside world think of the nation?Errors like this that has to do especially with money are supposed to be avoided. If the debtors were supposed to be restricted from leaving the shores of the nation,Ali Dangote could have jetted out of the country while Aliko Dangote would have been held for a crime he knows little or nothing about.Shame on the CBN.

It was really terrible for the CBN to have mistakenly imputed Aliko Dangote's name on the wrong list. The man is a custodian of monies belonging to millions of Nigerians. It is very unfortunate they will be thrown into panic unnecessarily. Aliko Dangote does not owe Intercontinental such an amount of money. Even Ali Dangote and the Dansa Oil and Gas have put out a statement to say that Intercontinental Bank sold their collateral even while they were yet to default on their loan facility.

If you read the statement put out by the Management of Dansa Oil and Gas, you will begin to understand the level of daftness of these bankers.

CBN should apologise to Aliko Dangote.

Intercontinental should apologise to Dansa Oil and Gas.
Re: Cbn Admits Error In List Of Bank Debtors by McKren(m): 2:42pm On Aug 22, 2009
A CBN Management that puts out statements with wrong debtors can not be trusted to accurately and thoroughly audit Banks

Sanusi needs to take a step back, otherwise the wheels will soon begin to come off and the credibility of the CBN under him will be irrevocably destroyed. HE SHOULD CHILL.
