Nigerian Artistes And Their Empty Lyrics by Holla2: 8:00pm On Aug 21, 2009 |
sth is happening to naija music. it baffles me: empty lyrics! If dey r not singing bout "pass me ur luv babe", its " Champagne,Hennesy,Moiet,Squadi, ", chorus follows. The next line "shayo, shayo", "in the club, je k, a s'aye," "bling bling", "swag swagga", where is the message in the music? |

Its a testament of the societal decay thats taking place on a global scale. Thankfully, these warped songs and their meaningless lyrics will be a thing of the past when the new generation of songs, with revolutionary and spiritually uplifting lyrics would hit the Nigerian airwaves. Thank you Holla, I know there are millions of Nigerians out there yearning for music with meaning, we shall recognize these songs when we hear them, only patience I plead, with you and all the brothers and sisters who are not carried away with tomfoolery and inconsequential nonsense. . . |

u guys shud stop sounding so ignorant. those songs u refer to are refered to as commercial club bangers i.e the artists use them to get some money. if u are patient enuff to go tru their albums, u 'l find out that many of them carry more messages as this generation has suffered more than previous generations u think are so thotful with their lyrics. 2 shots- make them talk; MI-fast cars; soul e-naija is blessed; asa-fire on the mountain; infact there are too much to mention. stop jumpin into the sea and complaining about getting wet i.e dont go to a club and expect to hear a sermon. these generation of artists are really good plus intelligent. |

There really are folks content to remain victims of ignorance and false paradigms. Its obvious to see that the country has got a long way to go in correcting the infiltration of a foreign and alien mentality. Sorry. . . |

yoji: What a load of bollocks. So because it's a club banger as you put it, it has to be completely brain dead. What makes it worse, is that they are all saying exactly the same thing. Moet, chineke me, unu ga egbu madu, etc. Creative originality and meaningful lyrics will always win out long term. These artists might have one hit record, but that's it. Personally, i can't wait for the chaff to go and the new wave to begin. This is not the musical legacy Nigeria should be showing to the world. Shout out to 2face. The only artist who consistently writes songs, not club sound bites. |

Asa, rooftop mcs, Mi, etc dey try abeg. u are only tryin to give a dog a bad name to hang it. bottomline not all their lyrics are empty. |

Re: Nigerian Artistes And Their Empty Lyrics by audio: 4:23pm On Aug 25, 2009 |
yoji: Actually, i totally disagree with you. For starters, you can't compare Majek Fashek or Onyeka Onwenu or the Mandators to the guys we have now. Those guys wrote real songs which could stand up anywhere worldwide. Rythm, lyrical content, composition, originality, it was all there. Secondly, your calling the foreign stuff garbage. That alone writes you off in my book. So now, if it's not naija, it's now garbage. The garbage music as you call it, is what MI and Kel and Mo Cheddah and Sauce Kid and countless others are trying to imitate. Badly in most cases. Bottomline is, naija likes to do Zombie and Follow the leader. Nobody wants to try and do something different, because their scared that it will not sell if they don't all sound the same. 9ice, 2face, Faze, PSquared, DBanj are all doing there own thing and are very successful, but more importantly, the lyrics are as good as the beat. I don talk finish. |

Re: Nigerian Artistes And Their Empty Lyrics by yoji: 12:22am On Aug 29, 2009 |
@ audio fine i get ur point and by the way i didnt say anything foreign is garbage cos i grew up on th back of plenty foreign stuff that makes sense. also u cant underestimate the media explosion that this generation was fortunate to meet as such u had an audience ready to chew up anythin especially being liberated from channel o which back then sparingly promoted naija stuff. wats happening now is that d honeymoon period where anythin goes is coming to an end and people are startin 2 demand for more. cos along wit the gains of d media xplosion comes more scrutiny. |
