Governor Willie Obiano visited Agba, Ekwulobia in Aguata local government area in Anambra state where a 2-storey building reportedly in the plastering stage collapsed yesterday morning killing one person.

Obiano while sympathising with Ndi Ekwulobia frowned at the incessant building collapse and charged the State Emergency Management Agency led by Sir Paul Odenigbo to intensify excavation works to see if anyone could be saved.

The State Government has several warned all builders to adhere to the professional standards and make appropriate use of the State Materials Testing Laboratories recently opened at Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha.

Stiffer penalties should be meted out to engineers and building owners where plans aren't submitted for approval and there should be an inspection team set up by the government in order to check houses still under construction whether the materials meet minimum requirements before been used

Tenants, watch your houses on a daily basis oo to see if there's any dangerous Crack or signs of a collapse soon and raise alarm

Safety of lives should be everyone's priority

The testing centers should be mandatory Sir paid for by the fees to pass building inspection and get certificate of safety.

Building collapses is rather a symptom of Standards than states where it occurs.
Its also happening because there's a development going on in Anambra.

R.I.P to the dead. My major problem in building collapse is that the greedy contractor will never get trapped only the innocent poor workers looking for their daily bread get killed. Hhhhhmmmm!!!
