|My Experience With LASTMA Today And Lessons To Be Learnt by dramaticspeak(m): 10:11pm On Jun 03, 2016|
Today is the first time my car would ever be towed because I parked where I shouldn't have parked. It was towed to LASTMA yard at PWD. Let me give you advice but I don't pray anyones car be towed. If you get there understand that you are on your own and don't try to join anyone. Humble yourself and don't prove rights. Talk to any lastma official ther privately and beg them for a way out. Tell them you don't want ticket. Understand that if they write you a ticket your case is closed and you would have to pay 30k before your car can be released.
Now my story today. My car was towed to lastma yard at pwd. I got there with my cousin and met a young man whose car was also towed. He went into the office proving rights and my cousin decided to join him. The lastma official there got annoyed and wrote ticket for both us and the man. We did not understand the seriousness of the ticket till we called a senior officer in lastma that we knew to help us out and he told us there was nothing he could do since they have issued us a ticket, that if they hadn't we would have spoken to someone he would direct us to, pay the 5k and leave. I waited and saw how other people whose vehicle was towed did not spend up to 10mins before they drove off with their car. I had to pay the 30k. The best advice I can give you all is this: Never park your car at a wrong place. Usually you would see the no parking sign and also your gumtion would tell you not to park there. To avoid even having an encounter with LASTMA.

Just like FRSC, once they write that ticket for you, there is nothing anyone can do until you pay the said amount.
It's always better to settle issues on the road no matter the offence than going to the office.

lonelydora:it actually depends on the offence. It's cheaper to pay some fines, than settle 5k.

As long as you have entered their office, your fine won't be less than 5k. FRSC cannot just write one of fence for you. They will always add "Reluctant to stop" to whatever offence.

lonelydora:ok,on a friday, I was once caught by road safety for 'DGD' (dangerous driving, because i was trying to do one way). Was taken to their office, after much entreaties, a ticket was written, but it was not for DGD which was a substantial amount, it was for my cracked windscreen. The fine was 2k (two thousand Nigerian naira) which I paid to their UBA account the next monday. My license was seized on that friday though, but I was given like a temporary waiver so I could drive over the weekend till monday, and I was let go with my car. So what say ye?

You met a good man. Thank your God. There is always a "First Offence" which will be the reason they will stop you before seeing other offence.

lonelydora:regardless of 1st offence or meeting a good man or thanking God, my valid point remains that there are some fines that are cheaper to pay, than 'settling' with the FRSC or LASTMA.
