The Uterus of a newborn is quite large in proportion to the rest of the baby girl's body. This is due to the presence of the mother's hormones in the infant's body at birth. The uterus becomes smaller during the next five or six weeks as the mother's hormones leave the baby's body.

Then no active change takes place in the young girl's uterus until she is seven to nine years of age. When she begins to secrete female hormones from her ovaries, the uterus starts enlarging again.

During the reproductive period, a woman's uterus is about half the size of her fist. Prior to seven to nine years of age, the uterus is about one-third that size and, after goes through menopause, the uterus becomes much smaller again.

To a doctor, the uterus of a post-menopausal woman feels about half the size of that of a reproductive-age female. This uterine atrophy does not seem to affect the way a woman feels or her sexual responsiveness.
