Palm Reseller - Anyone? by africanboy(m): 7:35pm On Nov 25, 2006
Does anyone know of any Palm shop in Lagos where they have Palm accessories in stock. I was sent a Palm Zire 71, but unfortunately the adaptor had a voltage capacity of 110v. Boom. Now I cant even put on the Palm.

Any help?

Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by africanboy(m): 8:12pm On Nov 26, 2006
I walked the whole of Computer Village. Nothing.

I checked Palm website, all B2B Resellers and Consultants no longer deal in Palm products.

Someone suggested Palms, will try that. If only I had a number I could call before going

Africanboy,

Have you found the adaptor you need for your palm zire 71.?

Below might just be what you need . It is an auto sensing (i.e. works for 120V and 240V) OEM (i.e Original Equipment Manufacturer - it is not manufactured by palm) product. Note that the USB cable is not included. You probably have one with the 110v adaptor that came with your palm.

It is currently retailing at that site for $5.35. If you want I can help you try to get it. Let me know.

thanks, will try it. problem now is buying it.
Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by brume2020: 1:41pm On Aug 07, 2007
Yup - your best bet would be to find someone going to the US to pick it up for you. I would offer to buy and ship it to you but shipping/clearing charges for a $5 item will make it not worth your while.
Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by ajayi1(m): 6:39pm On Aug 08, 2007
If you can not get the Adaptor. The best way is that go get stepdown adaptor that will change the voltage to 110.
Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by brume2020: 6:47pm On Aug 08, 2007
You could down go that route. But the palm top is a portable device which you always want to carry around.

Now a step down transformer on the other hand is not exactly something you would like to be carrying around along with your palm top. You can carry it around though - dont get me wrong - its just plain inconvenient.

But hey, in the absence of any other alternative, perhaps a step down transformer is not such a bad idea.

My 2c.

brume, if you were go get it for me, how much would it cost? if your cost is reasonable, just might consider.
Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by brume2020: 4:00am On Aug 09, 2007
Africanboy,

It will probably cost about $20 just to get it physically into Nigeria from the US. Since its a small order it likely will attact shipping/handling charges even within the US.

Since this is an introductory service I am willing to do this at no profit - i.e for $25.

So if it is worth you while I'll do it for US$25 and you can have it in about 2 weeks.

Truth be told - no-one can trust anyone else they have met via an online medium until there is a previous experience (good or bad / their own or someone elses) they can draw upon to establish with a certain degree of confidence that they are comfortable (or not ) conducting a subsequent transaction with the party. As a result there is a significant risk of either of us reneging on a largely unenforceable agreement reached online.

Having said that the onus rests on each party taking appropriate steps to actively manage/mitigate risks and reduce any possible losses accruing from a worst case scenario.

Against this backdrop, if you were to pay in advance your worst case scenario will be - I wont deliver (and keep feeding you some cock and bull stories about delivery delays, back orders etc) and also refuse to refund your payment in the hope that you give up on your advance payment(i.e. 419) .

On the other hand if I were to accept payment upon delivery, my worst case would be your taking a rain check after the fact (i.e. changing your mind after item has been ordered/delivered) or otherwise failing to make full payment for some unfathomable reason (i.e. no cash, no longer reachable etc).

In this particular case I am deciding to accept all the risks, (i.e eliminating your risk). From my point of view this is a relatively small transaction (in the larger scheme of things) in which I stand to lose at most (US$25)
- actually I'll still have the charger (it is a universal charger after all with many possible other uses) and I could get value for it - it would only take longer than I originally planned to recoup my small investment.

While successfully completing this transaction wont buy me instant online credibility, I am anticipating that it will probably count someday/sometime when you (hopefully) suggest the service to someone else who requires a similar service.

You do bring up a valid point though with the trust thing (i also raised this issue with another poster earlier on)- and I am working on a near bullet proof system that would nail that in the bud. It may involve a "trusted" third party - but that will cause the costs to breach low
thresholds (you know - the low price threshold). I am really giving it some thought - because it has to be in place for any transactions of significant value.

Anyhow enough of this rant - simply yell if its a go (or no go) and we can take it from there.

Just keeping it real.

enjoy,

as a matter of fact, i am interested, i am willing to risk 50% of the total amount - like you said it is a little transaction.

by my calculation around 5,000 naira give or take a little. how do i make payment?
Re: Palm Reseller - Anyone? by brume2020: 1:01am On Aug 10, 2007
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your decision to proceed further with this transaction and your offer to shoulder 50% of the risk upfront.

BTW - The total (100%) naira equivalent is approx. (127 * 25) i.e. =N=3175. This is based on an exchange rate of 127=N= to US$1.

Please contact me by email - my email address is on my profile. I will provide you further information when I receive your email.

Thanks
