If you have been to ijede before like I have, you'll know that the houses are built close to the lagoon that situated there. So a heavy rainfall will increase the flow of water from the lagoon onto properties. Those houses majorly bungalows are on a very low ground level. The ground level is almst the same with the lagoon unlike the phcn estate where egbin thermal plant is that have a high ground level. Those areas are very exposed to flooding.

Do we have a functional and effective town planning in Nigeria?

If the answer is truthfully No..then Nigerians must be ready for this and much more.

Lands are sold by omo oniles and baales as they so please without taking into congnisance which section is or should be allocated for storm canals ,recreation, well layed out plots, road access, etc, everybody just does as they please.

This is Ijede, in Ikorodu in Lagos, this is the aftermath of the heavy rain that fell yesterday, the result is quite devastating that people have to leave their home...

...looks like that rain was only in ikorodu. I created a thread about rain yesterday & got only one response......the whole of bayeku rd, offin rd, no drainage! The same thing happened here, from bayeku to selewu, Agunfoye, etc. Schools were shut & we were jst watching the flood @ home. ....& these areas are jst a few metres to the Lagoon...

What do you expect when we build houses on areas marked for drainage, throw all our trash into drainages there blocking the free flow of water. This is just A.M., let us wait for the 7 days rain to come, some houses will be washed away into the River. Ambode is working. grin grin
