The Federal Government is planning to borrow between N305bn and N395bn ($1.08bn-$1.40bn) in local currency-denominated bonds with maturities ranging from five to 20 years in the third quarter of this year, the Debt Management Office has said.

The DMO said on Wednesday it would auction between N105bn and N135bn worth of bonds maturing in 2021, 2026 and 2036 in July, while same bonds valued at between N95bn and N125bn would be sold in August; and N105bn and N135bn worth of the paper would be sold in September.

In its latest debt issuance calendar, the debt office said the 2021 paper was a new issue, while the 2026 and 2036 maturing paper re-opened previously issued debt, Reuters reported.

The Federal Government issues sovereign bonds monthly to support the local bond market to create a benchmark for corporate issuance and fund its budget deficit.

The government has said it will borrow about N900bn locally to finance part of the N2.2tn deficits in the 2016 budget.

The debt office had on April 5 announced that it plans to raise between N274bn and N365bn in local currency-denominated bonds with maturities ranging between five and 20 years in the second quarter of the year.

In its latest bond issuance calendar, the DMO also said it would in June raise between N10n and N20bn in five-year, N35 to N45bn in 10- year and N45bn to N55bn worth of 20-year paper. The agency said all were re-openings of those previously issued.

we have never been confused in this country before like now. trillions of naira have been said to be recovered, still we need to borrow just three hundred plus billion to finance the budget deficit. what happened to the so called recovered money. some people will soon run here to quote and insult me with their usual the cases are still in court and therefore the money can't be used talks. we only get to be reminded of the court cases whenever we ask questions about the recovered money, but the federal government can remand the so called looters in prison without the court convicting them. the day the truth about this arm's scandal will be revealed will be the day Nigerians start asking this government to account for the trillions of naira they said to have recovered. be ready that time to hear another set of lies and denial, I didn't say so, adesina, lie Mohammed or vp osibande said so, hahahaha. what a country

Stupidity is when you saved 3 trillions from TSA, recovered 625 billion from looters yet you still want to borrow 395 billion with interest.

Well, who am I to criticise? Lai Muhammed deserves an award for sustaining the gullible zombies.

why borrowing when we have recovered so much money from the loots of the previous govt?
I pity the generation yet unborn, the amount of debts that will be accumulated for them with the way this govt is going will be an unbearable one. I pray God gives me the required money to send my future children out of this country in future time. I dont want to pray for nigeria, because my prayer will be meaningless. God doesnt work for u, God works with u. Nigerian govt and its blind supporters are not ready to do things right, how do we expect our prayers to be answered? I will spend my last cash to make sure my kids doesnt remain in this country.

Answer this question correctly for a chance to win 1% of the money in the Nigerian TSA:

1. Who handles the moneys President Mohammadu Buhari recovered from looters of the previous administration?

a. Aisha Buhari (wife of the president)
b. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai
c. Abba Kyari
d. Lawal Musa Daura
e. All of the above...
