academic masters if u plan on getting a PhD later. Pro masters has no progression. More like certification.

Bloody liar, if u don't know the difference btw then just scroll and pass instead of dishing out false info.

Now, Academic masters is very helpful when u re considering or would love to be a lecturer or a prof in an academic environment(universities or any research institution) on the other hand, professional masters (eg MBA) is the one that is most demanding and attractive to employers, in organizations, banks, oil companies, MDA's etc. any organization that has nothing to do with academics.

Now the point I really want to hit is that, u can rise to the highest point of ur career in an academic environment with an academic masters, but u can not with a professional masters, vis-a vis. and yes, u can have a professional masters and still have ur Ph D and even go as far as being a prof.

You don't have to insult people to get your point across. Just drop your opinion and bounce along. I am sticking to my opinion. And that is the nigerian reality.

pls what's now the difference btw MSc in Public Health(which is an academic masters program) and Master of Public Health,MPH (professional masters) ?

for sm1 who wish to play in d public health sector with major NGOs and who intend to get a PhD after that, which is more appropriate

my dear, go for MPH, u can still do u Ph,D after ur MPH, all u'll have to do is take an extra course for abt 6-12month then u can get ur ph,d

This will depend solely on the university board acceptance, you might be considered especially if the professional course is closely related with the PhD area of specialisation.

My thoughts gathered from what I've heard professors talked about.
Do you know any University, either private or public, which accept professional masters for phD?

Academic masters leaves you with flexible options. In most cases, academic masters are also applicable in the industry, while professional masters are not, in the academia. I will advise you go for academic masters. Most people opt for professional masters because it is less rigorous, very flexible (combining work with study) & usually shorter in duration. If you can pay the price for academic masters, it is worth it.

Very insightful. Msc all the way.

Hello, did you eventually do a professional Masters program or an academic masters? If yes, did you observe anything from experience that would have made you gone for something else? I plan do to a masters program in unilag next year so I'm looking for pointers
