I disagree, most of the lifelong 3SC fans till date are below middle class people, some even trek to the stadium and back drinking only pure water to support their team. If people make mad money they'd still prefer to travel to England to watch the premier league rather than support the local league.

-U no longer See ur star players in the stadium
-Viewers attension followed the stars that went to Europe
-Who cares to see Gambo Mohammed, Kunle Odunlami and Chibuzor Okonkwo in d stadium when dey can see Messi, Ronaldo, and Rooney from the comfort of their living rooms.
But stadia are full of crowds in Premierships and other soccer competitions with all their high tech internet and cable TV networks.

When some people can barely eat, with complains here and there since Buhari took the Aso Rock seat, the fear of one Islamist group detonating a bomb or using suicide bombers won't even want to make you go see match,

It will take ages to win the hearts of Nigerians or for things to be the way it use to be or even better.

Just imagine I dont know a single player in the NPL but I can proudly list all the current Man United players, even legends and a few from other clubs.

I fear for this country seriously, nothing makes me happy at all, is it the suffering, or the epileptic power supply, or the increase in in the prices of almost everything, the list is endless.

As long as nothing is done to give us a better life we will keep shouting Up Man U, Up Chelsea, Up Barca. Mtchee

is it since last year or two years ago that people stopped going to stadiums? people stopped going to stadiums since 90s ever since Abacha's dictatorship. stop blaming Buhari for this. remove politics out of this. our sport media has failed us for ages. they are busy sharing the monies.

OP, this picture was the epic match btw up-rising Bendel Insurance of Benin (Underdog) and the almighty Enugu Rangers(giant). It was the final of the Challenge Cup.
Rangers had the legends like Christian Chukwu, Emma Okala, Alloy Atuegbu, Ifeanyi Onyedika, etc.
Bendel Insurance had unknowns like skipper Felix Agbonifo(now late), Khadiri Ikhana, David Adiele, George Omokaro, Peter Egharevba, Henry Ogboe (left footed terror), Francis Monidafe, Leotis Boateng, Anthony Oviawe etc.
It was a "David vs Goliate" match and typically "David Bendel Insurance stunned Goliate, Enugu Rangers" 3:0.
And Rangers fans said "na medi"i.e otumokpo.
Just because they thought Rangers was unbeatable.

What went wrong? High cost of living which has increase the intensity of the struggle to survive, live television where u can watch from the comfort of ur house almost for free, and competition from more organized and exciting foreign leagues.

she is not blaming anyone, no politics involved here.

she said she has been fed up for a long time.

but what stops the new oga from stopping this nonsense that has been going on for ages.

if the quality of life in naija is improved, the league is made attractive, the right and talented stakeholders involved, people will surely throng to the stadia enmass.

You 're right.
The poor turn out started in the early 90s when NFA corruption started gaining ground resulting in poor officiating, rigged matches, poor planning of Challenge Cup fixtures etc.

in the 1960's burnley chairman convinced the english fa to stop the live airing of 3.00pm matches on saturday in the u.k because fans of smaller clubs will prefer watching big club's matches, thereby affecting the attendance of smaller clubs and till today it is still in place, there is no live broadcast of matches in uk around 3.00pm on saturday so that all the smaller clubs will have optimal attendance.

To b honest d npfl is now very better than before many people turning up now than last 10 years because they are now well paid and even wining in away match alone u would be given 500k , drawing in away =250k and attracting more than 5k fans earns u 250k plus tickets sales makes the teams alot of money which was never there in the last 10-25 years I don't know about before then . a lot of teams have filled stadiums teams like eyimba, Enugu rangers , KANU pillars ifeayin ubah , wiki tourist e.t.c so let's support our league

My aunty's house was just beside the stadium then. Tales abound of massive crowds when these two teams faced each other. Same with Shooting Stars.

Insurance, Rangers and Shooting dominated that era. With Mighty Jets of Jos & Racca Rovers of Kano also making impact.
