The fact that you failed a course doesn’t mean that you are a bad student or an unserious one at that. Even the best of students fail exams.
Carry-over does a lot of things in our lives as students and in a long way goes to show us that we are humans and we can sometimes fail or succeed. Carry-over in itself is another chance to make amends and not a way of diluting ones spirit. Yes, it might have delivered the coup de grȃce to our “first class” aspirations but nevertheless, it gives us hope again.
Carry-over does the following things in our lives:
1. EVERYONE CAN FAIL:
You just have to know that each and every one of us is candidates of failure the very moment we stepped our foot in the higher institution. So, we work towards succeeding and some of us whose hard work didn’t pay fails. People have actually gotten carry-overs and still make their 2.1 CGPA, so it doesn’t mean that you cannot still make it.
2. DOGGEDNESS:
The spirit of every carry-over student is a “die hard” spirit. They never give up even though they might have pegged back by a course or two. In life, success does not come all the time and the moment we know this and get it into our thick skulls, that is the very moment that this country of ours will start growing. We have this mentality that “we are born to succeed”. And the churches are not doing us good in this area; they always preach success as though failing means dying. Carry-over teaches you that whenever you fall, pick yourself up and trudge on!
3. SMILE:
It is bad enough already that you had a carry-over, stressed and tensed looks wouldn’t do you much in this regard. Carry-over students smile and are happy, not because they failed but because they know within them that doing the opposite will attract undue attention to them.
4. THEY GIVE BETTER ADVICE:
If you need good advice, go to any carry-over student because they have the best experience of what it means and feels like not to success. They render help to other students who might be on their way to failure. They also end up being better motivational speakers and inspirations to other junior student.
5. THEY READ MORE:
The fear of another carry-over becomes an extra fuel to stir them up. Carry-over students read more than those who have not yet tasted it. Their brains are opened wide from the experience and they must have vowed to attack each course with seriousness. In every best student of every institution, you are likely to find one student who has had a carry-over amongst them.
6. THEY ARE MORE CREATIVE:
The very fact of a door closing in on them has opened another door. This door is CREATIVITY. The experiment on several things and are usually the ones who are fearless to try out new things, while those who are yet to taste from the pot of carry-over will always like to “play safe”. Because they know where their mistakes came from, they have done research on why they failed and will go all out to succeed at any other thing they do or undertake.
7. THEY DETEST VOILENCE:
Carry-over makes you so humble that humility begins to flow through your veins like waters through a rock. They act cautiously because they know that where they were not where they are ought to be. Their attitudes are always the best amongst others and they do not boast. They are usually the ones who draw closer to God because they know now that it is not by strength but by GRACE. They read their bibles more than others and pray often as well. They are more friendly and jovial.
8. THEY HAVE GOOD SENSE OF DRESSING:
Who says that when you fall you should not rise up again? Where is it written that because of failure you shouldn’t dress properly? What would it profit you to dress anyhow? Carry-over students have good sense of dress because they want to look presentable to others and to their lecturers. Who knows the lecturer might because of their dapper look give them good grades this time around.
If you have had a carry-over, rejoice and be glad because you have received a lot of training that others might not be opportune to get while in school.
