And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable
for thee that one of thy members should
perish, and not that thy whole body should
be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members shouldperish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

It is trying to say, whatsoever that will prevent u from entering the kingdom of God , Avoid it. It doesn't really mean you should pluck off your eyes. There are many temptations , Always pray that the grace of God is there to help you in all situations

The Bible passage shouldn't be misconstrued as the literal meaning of it. We should do away with whatever habits, friends or relationships that will make it possible to miss Heaven. That's the admonition here.

Why are Oyedepo, Kumuyi etc, still with their body parts intact, if we imply the literal meaning? LOL.

This is why I'm in love with THE MESSAGE bible translation.

29-30"Let's not pretend this is easier than it really is. If you want to live a morally pure life, here's what you have to do: You have to blind your right eye the moment you catch it in a lustful leer. You have to choose to live one-eyed or else be dumped on a moral trash pile. And you have to chop off your right hand the moment you notice it raised threateningly. Better a bloody stump than your entire being discarded for good in the dump.

Your eye/hand could be a thing or even a person, and simply means if it/they would make you loose your focus, cut off from them.

Looking at the glory that is ahead, it is better to deprive yourself of temporary pleasures and enter into that glory than to spend all your energy indulging in those pleasures and miss the glory in the end.

It means put away anything at all that is capable of making you Sin, and also as you all know when you die as a sinner you go to hell, therefore doing the former enhances your heavenability, forgive the vocabulary

t was not Christ’s intention for this instruction to be taken literally. Eyes, hands and feet cannot, of and by themselves, commit sin.

Sin begins in a person’s mind (James 1:14). For example, a person who is totally blind, or one who is missing an arm or leg, can still sin.

Christ was merely using parts of the body to make an important point. He was showing that Christians SHOULD NOT TOLERATE SIN as an integral part of their lives.

If an individual has a sinful habit, he should overcome it, even though the process may be as painful as the loss of an arm or leg. Christ is saying that it is far better to forsake a sinful pleasure than to lose salvation.

Hmmm!
Simply means we should shun sources, things and friends that negatively affect our christian life if we want to make heaven.

Well, I once read a book written by one of the christian leaders. He said, in hell, he saw pple being hung by a specific organ of their body, he made some enquiries from the person tormenting them and the man said, they are being hung by those organs cos it was that organ that made them sin when they were on earth

So I guess that passage is telling christians that they can still make heaven, no mata how well they'v sinned on earth. The only thing you need to do is cut off that part of your body that is making you sin before rapture comes

it doesnt actually meam dismembering/removing ur body parts.it means desisting from/or letting go things dat hinders u from having personal relationhsip with ur creator.eg,phone is one of our biggest hindrances.it has become our closest companion, thus hindering our rlship with our creatot.in order for u to maintain a smooth flowing relationship with ur creator,u st relegate ur phone to d bottom by minimising d usage

It means that you should try to overcome temptations in all circumstances though those temptations will be around you through friend, siblings etc and also channel your focus toward your salvation.

Only ignorant people take an esoteric book like the Bible literally. Unfortunately most are ignorant.
Most parts of Bible are are esoteric allegories.
Sometimes I wonder how people would truly take the tower of Bebel story literally
Of course why do you think Jesus taught in parables.
Forget all those you need the Holy Spirit to truly understand the Bible crap.... That's what the people benefiting from the commercialization of christianity would always say

No, it doesn't not mean that you should cut off parts of your body because a person without arms and legs can still sin with their mind.

Or can you cut that off too?

I think Jesus was talking bout friends and bad habits.

He's telling us to cut off friends and habits that may cause us to sin even when doing so is painful as cutting off one's arms or legs.

Don't take bible literally please because there's nothing he said to then that wasn't in parable. MARK 4:34

This passage is one of the most direct teachings of Christ. While many could readily describe it as a parable, eye in this regard refers to something precious. From an angle, the idea of using parts of the body is indeed a pointer to saying that as humans, we tend to have some things, properties or achievements that are so precious that one would think if they're lost, that would be the end of the world. A typical example of this could one's wealth, position in life/attainment, children, one's spouse, etc... These things and more can be close to one as one's member. This is why Christ said if you have these things around you and they seem to be cutting you off from being focused on heaven, then you should FIND a way of doing away with them, by 'plucking' them out and by 'cutting them off'. A typical example of this is ELI whose children went on rampage and defiled the things of God but due to excessive love, he could not correct them, even after God had sent him a warning through young Samuel.

crap

why crap u better go and sleep back if you don't have meaningful things to say.

eh ehh back to op question what bible is trying to say is that, anything u know that will make u to sin it will be better for you to run away from it. so its not as if bible say u should cut off your hand or remove ur eyes that word is a indirect speech.as in if u know ur wife or brother is leading you to unrighteous way its will be better for you to leave them before its too late.
