Students of the Benue state College of Education Katsina-Ala, this morning protested over the sudden increment of their tuition fee. According to an eyewitness, it caused a total disruption of academic activities. The first/second gate of the college were locked and the gate leading to the administrative block of the college was also closed with palm leaves tied on it by angry students.

The situation is however now under control following the intervention of the deputy provost academics Mr. D. Hindi. He pledged to convey their message to the provost Prof O.N. Nder and the students were instructed to report on campus tomorrow for the provost's speech.

Why are they protesting, thought they voted for change in Benue? The state Government should place a ban on public protests as soon as possible and arrest anybody who goes against the law on that. Next time when they here change, they will swear for whoever mentioned it.

Parents are owed salaries for months, siblings are still unemployed, pensioners are there too. And then you increase tuition fees, how do they want it paid? When families are still struggling to survive. Everyone is just trying to cope, it's not easy.

Back in 2013...Nyesom Wike, then the Minister of State for education and Poly lecturers hammered out an agreement for increased salaries and funding for polys and colleges of education.

The government of the day told them that there was no money for extra funding.

What we see now is the result of that tale (And ,no, no blaming GEJ ....so sorry wailers).

Polys and COE like their University counterparts are in need of heavy funding. And that might reach trillions of naira.

So...it is either government increases taxes, or increases fees. We have no choice. Unless anyone here has N3 trillion in their bank account and wants to help us poor people out....

Sorry students....but the fees have to go up....or you will end up with qualifications you cannot defend.
