UN Suspends Operations In Nigeria After Boko Haram Surprise Attack by mamabomboy: 10:40pm On Jul 28, 2016
(Reuters) - The United Nations has temporarily suspended aid deliveries in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, the former stronghold of jihadists Boko Haram, after a humanitarian convoy was attacked, the U.N. children's agency UNICEF said on Thursday.

UNICEF said in a statement that unknown assailants attacked the convoy on Thursday as it returned to Maiduguri from delivering aid in Bama, injuring a UNICEF employee and an International Organisation for Migration contractor.

"The United Nations has temporarily suspended humanitarian assistance missions pending review of the security situation," it said.

Nigerian army spokesman Sani Usman said troops were escorting the humanitarian convoy when it was attacked by "suspected remnants of Boko Haram" and that two soldiers and three civilians were wounded.

Nearly a quarter of a million children in Borno suffer from life-threatening malnourishment and around one in five will die if they do not receive treatment, UNICEF said earlier this month.

Medecins Sans Frontieres said on Wednesday that severely malnourished children were dying in large numbers in northeast Nigeria, where food supplies are close to running out.

By 2014, Boko Haram controlled territory nearly the size of Belgium in northeast Nigeria until most of it was recaptured last year by the Nigerian army and troops from neighboring countries.

More than 15,000 people have been killed and at least 2 million displaced by Boko Haram's insurgency in Nigeria. The group has carried out suicide bombings in northeast Nigeria and neighboring Cameroon, Niger and Chad.

When we were complaining of the FG's deceit and lacklustre approach to the Boko Haram menace, they called us wailers, now the truth has come out.

Some Northern elements shld see what they cause. During GEJ era they were busy shouting Genocide, including Buhari supporting them instead of condemning such act. Now d chicken has come to roast.

Stop this foolishness. Even international dailies have reported great progress on the War against BH. You can keep masturbating and celebrating over bad news. Buhari and I don't give 2 f**cks. The war in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya have been won by the united states, but we sometimes hear about surprise or suicide attacks.
I hope u won't cry ethnic cleansing, when "OPERATION EX-CROCODILE SMILE" is in full force in ND. Cos you ipod yoots seems to always cry more than we from the ND, just to force an attachment. NDA is just using u guys, and u will get dumped as usual. Have u ever wondered why the scavengers are talking about having Niger Delta Republic? Biafra will be used and dumped again cheesy

It has always been obvious that the charlatan president with all his demonic cohorts up north have continuously lied about the security situation in the NE including the perpetual liar called Lai Mohammed. They created their monster and now it's time to milk resources and further steal the country blind in the name of rebuilding the NE. They forgot to properly direct their boys so they don't tango with the humanitarian aid they managed to secure for their towns that have always been deprived from day one if not for Niger Delta oil money and that is why any talk of separation and restructuring makes them go crazy with fear and hate!

Boko haram still holds sway very much but they keep lying about their phantom progress because they have succeeded in muzzling the press! Everything is politics and an avenue to steal. Go an check, these northern politicians are the laziest and most corrupt thieves and always try to ensure they are in the thick of things politically so that they can siphon funds yet they will be the first to come out and label others thieves.

Now that the UN has opened its eyes, I hope they stop all financial intervention cos those rogues will keep stealing and brainwashing the poor, malnourished citizens who also bear the same level of burning hatred against all things Christian or from Southern Nigeria. God forbid this kind one Nigeria!

Thanks to my brothers from the North, always blowing up places and causing havoc.

Not forgetting my lazy flat head friends from the South West who don't contribute in anyway to this country, all they know is swallow Amala and Ewudu, sleep all day with no job, sell their properties and lands to the Igbos and at the end of the day they turn to Omo nile

What most Nigerians do not understand is that terrorism, once birthed, may take decades to phase out after being conquered. No government can wipe out every single person with terrorist inclinations as they abound. In the Nigerian situation, Boko Haram has been defeated because they have no stronghold. They have been decimated and their capacity for inflicting real damage has been checked. The only attacks they are capable of now is small/surprise ones like this. They have no real power and they are no more a threat. This is why the president said they have been technically defeated.!

No one should politicize terrorism! Buhari and Jonathan may have made mistakes but millions died and the capacity for more is always open unless we project thoughts of love and peace profound to the entire North East!

I see no reason why they should suspend whatever asssistance they want to render.. I want ask a few questions

Weren't they aware Borno is a War zone? If No, why were they escorted by the army

Was there a report of any live lost?

Did the bokoboys announce they were on break or relaxing

So why shouldn't they expect an attack... I pity the hungry children. May God help us

Exactly the point. Just go through the thread and see foolish trolls celebrating this. Deep down their pathetic minds, they know fully well that there is a big difference between BH under Jonathan, and BH of today.
This touts don't even know jerk about the military. Imagine challenging the Army to go after militants in the creek. Leadership in thr Military plays a vital role. Brutai's leadership is sure a different ball game. Many of this clowns don't know we have Amphibious milit special forces. A combination of both Ary and Navy in particular. The Navy Amphibious special forces, of ubsee them, u won't believe they are military men in Nigeria.
I am patiently waiting for operation ex-crocodile smile.
I reserve my comments
