Bro...from somone dat has experienced same in d past listen carefully.its simple but it dosnt go easily.main cause of ur itching is ur blood making ur skin react to d water.u have slight infection dat needs treatment and yes a little control on d psycological part(yes ur wife is right). Truth is, its not life threatening.just get ur mind off it den get som treatment frm ur doctor.if u dnt tink about it for d nxt six months u wld wake up one morning and realise its gone.simple

Doctors and all concerned nairalanders, I really need to know if there is any treatment for itching especially after morning bath. I have used up all means known to me including, bathing hot water, applying aboniki after bath, etc. I brought this to nairaland believing to get a lasting solution. Thank you my good people.

sterilize ur bathing sponch with hot water for about 1mins, add little antiseptic liquid to ur water
This is the best solution

I've gone through this, it's not your water or soap it's simply your skin that gets irritated once sponge goes on it. Just use soap and water no sponge. I stopped using sponge 6 years ago and I'm peace with myself.

it's same thing I did and the dam itching stop since 2011 I simply stop using sponge

Like someone said earlier, its hereditary and I think it gets better with age. This pruritus was the bane of my childhood but now I bath even cold water and sponge with minimal itching.

For those saying stop using sponge, this is nigeria. Its humid and air can be dirty. Use of pure cotton face towel as sponge helps. Avoid synthetic clothings, stick to pure cotton or silk. Avoid removing clothing immediately after heavy sweating. Better to get dry in breeze or a.c before removing clothing and bathing.

stop the soap you are using and change to another mild soap.
I was also in your situation some years back.I Stopped using the soap which i have been using for over a year and the itching stopped.
Re: Itching After Bathing - I Need Help... by deebrain(m): 7:48pm On Aug 12, 2017
Your skin is sensitive to the regular sponge and your towel ---the way you dry your body with your towel.

If you can, use a soft item (like a foam) as a sponge or better still, use your soap to rob your body thoroughly, then use your palms to rub your body, like a sponge, so the soapy effect can be seen.

After bathing, PAT DRY your body with your towel rather rubbing the towel on your body (as we are mostly used to use the towel)...

Thank me later.

I have experienced this twice in my life but it's passed now.. I believe it's got something to do with the blood. In my own case I had this issue after taking blood tonic, another thing I notice is that I don't get the inching after rigorous exercise like playing football or swimming.. So I concur with the doctor that said something about blood testing, I didn't use anything but it stopped after about 2 to 3 years but this your own that's about 15 years is probably more of a psychological thing but it's similar to what I experienced.

Its your skin reacting to what you use in scrubing it. Eg. Towel, Sponge etc. Try taking your birth without using sponge on your skin.

Apply either of this simple solution:

1. Boil your water
2. If you are using cold water, do vigorous exercise (sweat out enough).

I also suffered from this last week so i consulted a doctor who told its due to reaction taking place in my skin due to various things like change of water or use of dirty water, change of cream or soap. He asked me to start tetmosol soap to bath and to use piriton

OP, we are in the same shoes. mine started when I was about 8 years old after a swim in the river. the wave brought some dirt(somebody dustbin) with it that I was unabe to escape. when I came out of the water my legs itched like crazy. it was a mountainous region nd humid. I scratched till blood was coming out of my skin. over the years ive noticed the following

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO CURE.
ROUGH TOWELS AND SPONGE TRIGGER THE ITCH
DO NOT USE ANYTHING HARD TO ROBB YOUR BODY ANYTIME YOU GET WET.
DONT USE SPONGE ALWAYS... I USE SPONGE ONLY WHEN AM USING HOTWATER WITH A SOFT CLEAN DRY TOWEL. IT STILL ITCHES A BIT.

AVOIDING BATHING AT NIGHT OR MORNING DURING RAINY OR HARMATTAN SEASONS.
KEEP YOUR TOWEL DRY AND SOFT.
WHEN I USE A SINGLET OR COTTON MADE CLOTHS TO WIPE, IT DOSENT ITCH

IT IS ALSO PSYCHOLOGICAL; IT CAN BE TRIGGERED BY VISUALS TOO. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I BATH IN A DDIRTY OR SMELLY TOILET. ALSO WHEN THE FLOOR OF MY ROOM IS SANDY..

You could stop using sponge for a while and see if the itching stops. Just shower with your soap (preferably a medicated one, say, Delta soap) and warm water too.

PS: The above has worked for someone I know. Hence, my recommendation.

It happens to me only when i use certain sponges. Also happened to me during travel to certain locations. Water is not the same every where.
If you are not using sponge then it may be the water.

The water is a problem for me only when i travel to new places with different water supply.

Also sometimes the soap. When i use OseDudu, i also get itchy skin but in any case of itchy skin, it last no more than an hour after bathing.

Did you change your bathing soap recently? If you change from antiseptic to moisturizing soap or any other soap, then itching is a normal reaction. You might need to switch back. Talking from experience.

The itching will stop after a while, just put your mind off it.
Don't bother applying anything.

It's been happening to me for as long as I remember.
I have stopped bathing with sponge, it reduced slightly.
I have stopped bathing with cold water, it reduced slightly.
Tried different types of soaps , to no avail.
But I have noticed that I don't itch in the mornings when am rushing out to work etc. I only itch if I take my bath and am staying back at home or after my evening bath.
My wife thinks it's psychological.

This is true, when you occupy ur mind, e. g playing game of watching a movie it stops, not that it stops itching but you tend to forget it.... I think it has something to do with soap, water, sponge or untidy bathroom and it's effect on ur psyche
