What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by banom(m): 6:43pm On Sep 27, 2009
What if Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was selfish and tribalistic like Awolowo

What do you think ?
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by udezue(m): 6:50pm On Sep 27, 2009
He woulda kept his black ass in the East and worried about nothing but the East not NORTG R WEST. Charity begins at home not abroad. But he woulda caused harm to non IGBO like Awo did to non yoruba and that I don't like.
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by Nchara: 6:51pm On Sep 27, 2009
My friend, this post is deceptive. Zik also acted somewhat selfishly by removing (and assuming the post) Eyo Eta from the premiership of the East when he (Zik) lost to Awo in the West.

Infact, in retrospect, Awo's tribal selfishness, had it been adopted by Zik wholesale, would have prevented Nigeria from being be run by the imbeciles up north.
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by udezue(m): 6:53pm On Sep 27, 2009
U damn right the NORTH won't be flexing muscles if Zik wasn't so quick to suckin their cocks.

What he did to Eyo Ita was plain wrong. No justification for that and he caused disaffection in the EAST.
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by sjeezy8: 9:07pm On Sep 27, 2009
shocked shocked

Who is more tribalistic, a person who sided for the independence for his OWN people(Zik) or one who kept Nigeria together(Awo)?

just wondering- cause imnot sure why some folks would call him such
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by bibiking1(m): 9:14pm On Sep 27, 2009
Well, not to join issues on a tribal dialogue, i would state on a personal view that i prefer Awolowo to Azikiwe for his independent yet more astute approach towards leadership!

Ignoramus. Zik never supported biafra. in fact he was living outside of biafra during that time. I really wished that Zik was much more of a tribalist than a nationalist. Igbo would have been better off now
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by sjeezy8: 1:29am On Sep 28, 2009
im not going to argue

Zik supported biafra under the terms of a peaceful secession, which he later realised is impossible.

Was Zik even an igbo man? As he said his origin was from else where.

@sjeezy,
How did Awolowo keep Nigeria?
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by sjeezy8: 2:59am On Sep 28, 2009
how didn't he?

If he went through with the plan would there be a Nigeria today?

At the end of the day, Zik did the Igbo no good. Sorry to say, but Nigeria needs tribalism; that is the way it is programmed
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by spoOne: 5:10pm On Sep 28, 2009
@poster - or is it venom?

Leave the founding fathers of our democracy out of your vile contemptuous tribalism - let their souls rest in perfect peace - they did alot for this country, they should be revered not denegrated with your depraved and convoluted ideology.

Don't you have any bounds?
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by babapupa: 6:51pm On Sep 28, 2009
What's so tribal about doing what your people tasked you to do, in civilized societies, they call it great leadership and responsive governance. Only in Nigeria people label good and positivity with derogatory labels.

Did Awo not ask Zik to team up with him and declare independence when the North was stalling and saying they weren't ready?

Didn't Zik stalled with the North and end up teaming up with the North to lay the foundation for our sorry state of affairs?

We all know it's absolutely impossible to get things done with the North in the mix, just look at today's PDP, same nonsense was going on when ZIK joined them decades ago.

Now, what was Awolowo supposed to do? Sit on his hands and not fulfill his charged obligation to take care of and look after his people, especially after other folks refused to join him and go join other incompetent people.

Like or dislike the man, he did his job by actualizing his campaign promises, he took care of his region and served his people and dignified the oath he took. He built and started lots of firsts in Nigeria and Africa. Decades after, his achievements is still moving the Nation forward.

The industrial estate he built is still the only major industrial estate in our country. Successive incompetent administrations are yet match, emulate and capitalize on what the man accomplished in less than 7 years (from 1952 to 1959).

The question now is, what if the man was left alone and regional administration was never terminated? Wetin the west go look like?

The man did his job as a leader and as an administrator. Unfortunately, other regional leaders took their eyes off the ball.

Hate or love him, the man remains the best president we never had,

Azikiwe was a hopeless nationalist.I guess being an igbo born in the north(zungeru) and growing in lagos gave him a false sense of nationalism.
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by spoOne: 7:22pm On Sep 28, 2009
If it is general consensus that all easterners (I doubt it) want tear down all the good work of Zik, then it is your prerogative, but please leave Awolowo out of it.

It is very unfortunate that you have foolishly and arduously impugned the character of late Nnamdi Azikwe based on innuendoes and fallacies induced by ethnicity. Please get some education.

Was zik , really an igboman. When I once read , zik was not an igboman, he was just an immigrate to igboland. And bear igboname. And that may be his reason for not supporting biafra. Please read zik book My Odyssey.

Nwanna,

what are you on about? Did Zik remove or not remove Eyo Ettah from his post? Given the state Nigeria is today, Awo's tribalism, was it also Zik's cup of coffee, would have led to different countries emanating from Nigeria. Isn't that what we are now all fighting for?

I would like you to expatiate with facts and references on the occasion and place where Awolowo requested that Azikwe teamed up with him and declare independence when the North was stalling and saying they weren't ready.

It appears that few cretins on this board are willing to uplift stupidity to a credible level.

Nwanna,

Zik did not remove Eyo Ita as the head of government in eastern region of Nigeria. During the said period, Zik was not even a member of the regional house of assembly in eastern region talk less of removing head of the government.

The detractors of eastern region of Nigeria fanned up the ethnic bias on Eyo Ita’s case when one actually did not exist.

Bros I have to share some of your views here. Zik was just a terrible politician -whether he removed Eyo Ita or not- he failed to see Nigeria the way he should have. If he did, the Eastern region wouldn't have lost Western Cameroon. He was too focused on "Nigeria" but failed to see that even Nigeria had essential building blocks, one of which was the East then. If he concentrated on the East, all the problems of subsequent years including losing english cameroon and the minorities of the East would not have happened. If he kept western cameroon, I doubt the war would have gone the way it did. He may not have done something deliberate to allienate those people, but the bottomline is that he was the de facto leader of the NCNC and he failed.
Re: What If Zik Was Like Awolowo ? by becomrich15: 1:43am On Sep 29, 2009
zik removed Eyo Ita , go and read your history. Eyo ita and his people now formed National Independence Party.

Awo was not a tribalitic person. He just believe in the rule of law. And the other ethnics group some believe in cheating. even the satellite picture shows awo was right and they were all wrong.

Look Obasanjo and awolowo are from the same state and never get along, even abiola was never awolowo friend. but they are all yorubas. it is an issue with principle and awolowo was a principle man. I can tell you this Obasanjo and abiola can bend the rule. No awo. It was difficult for awo to change his mind on issue because most of awolowo decision were not made by awolowo, but by his religious believe.

Awolowo, obasanjo or abiola were different individual.

Awo was a principle man , obasanjo is not. Obasanjo makes decision based on event now, because President Obasanjo love women. if you get what I mean, and so did Abiola.  And Obasanjo and abiola have sowed in every tribe , ethnics and colour. So that give you thier mind set.

Awolowo was a one man, one woman type of person in we are talking of the 40 and 50. were an average nigeria had several women. The man had one wife, even when he was the most powerful in Yorubaland and the south at the time.

Now compare to president obasanjo and abiola. President Obasanjo is action. The baba get action when it comes to woman. I can tell you this at 150 years, president obasanjo would still be ready to have new wife. and have children. He is a typical yorubaman, they believe they do not count children. Baba does not mind. same thing for Abiola. It is an issue of principle. They are all different individual. we are all different individual.  and we see life differently.
